shaking is caused by low fluid in the pump tank and or dry rail cans they have oil cans that let a little out at a time to keep the side rails coated with oil if it dries up it can cause the shaking you felt
Seriously, for a Dover company to get bought out by another corporation requires them to be *enormous*. Any bets on how long it'll take before one of the other elevator companies gets Borged by Tyco or something?
Indeed, you can't blame the quality of Dover manufacturing, their hydraulics were some of the best in the buisness. Even the best elevator will fall into disrepair with poor maintenance. Remember, even though Dover installed the unit, the property owner is free to choose any service provider to provide maintenance for the elevator. It is their responsibility it keep in in proper operating condition.
That doesn't seem like a poor quality elevator, probably just crappy maintenance. Then again, I had a Dover elevator do some weird crap at a Marriott. I went to 8, and it went up to 8 and stayed there for a few seconds without doing anything. It then dropped down to 3 and paused again. It then went up to 6 and let us out. I suppose it was the Dover Elevator of Terror. xD
Unfortunately, Dover / ThyssenKrupp elevators seem to demand more constant maintenance and parts replacement than they should. They very easily get screwed up.
Some elevators on campus do that same thing; they will take you to completely random floors. I suspect the problem is that the controller loses track of the encoder strip in the shaft, tries to count down holes in the tape to position itself at your desired floor, then realizes it's not lined up. It then has to bail out and recalibrate.
Not all. There are some Montgomery KONE, Schindler, Otis, and Westinghouse elevators sprinkled around in the various buildings. There's also one I have yet to be able to identify -- anyone know which manufacturer paints the outsides of their cabs a medium gray color?
Not here, really... the FIU campus has good security. They've actually got their own police force.
The only major instances of crime that have occurred on the campus as of late are just crimes against property; theft of unattended computers and books, and an occasional car theft.
Those are basically a strip with five incandescent bulbs (yes, they burn out often), five reflectors of the sort you'd find in a flashlight, and five pieces of red frosted plastic with a black mask over them to make them look like LED dot matrix displays.
Some really old Dover elevators actually had a fake Nixie tube print in there!
How come it didnt go into nudge mode?

I dunno... 1980s Dovers seem to be built better than the more modern ones. I HATE the way the new ThyssenKrapp ones are built!

@bus11
Yep, they built the first oil-hydraulic elevator in the 1930s.

I mean is it usually the Dovers that do that?

Did you get a video of the elevator acting crazy?

It happened a few years ago.

Nice video, but isn't it kind of dangerous to be by yourself at a parking garage at night? I'm not being a smartass, just wondering.

Here's probably why. The LEDs' composing 4 are bright enough to make 2 also stand out.
