Also in Scandinavia we do tan a lot in the summer, because most of us don't like being pale skinned. I didn't look at every picture but I didn't spot one single obvious fake tan, having lived all my life I know that's what we look like during the summer after a lot of time at the beach etc. Make up however, yes, that is quite standard though.

@MrLeo751 I can't say from my own experiences. I've had many discussions about "Janteloven" with people from Sweden and Denmark online though. From what I can gather from the "ex-patriots" who left those countries Norway seems to be the worse about "farm boy" mentality. Sweden is a close 2nd but Denmark tends to be much less severe due to the recent diversification of the country. By "farm boy" syndrome I mean that "my way is best because I don't know of any other way" mentality.
Despite what Norwegians think, they are not cultured by their travels. Taking an English speaking tour of St Peters Church does not make you an expert on Italian culture. Norwegians live very isolated lives back home, they have a very homogenous culture so not only do they have a tendency to one way thinking due to their isolation but Janteloven only exaggerates what is a very obvious information/education problem. Also in Scandinavia we do tan a lot in the summer, because most of us don't like being pale skinned. I didn't look at every picture but I didn't spot one single obvious fake tan, having lived all my life I know that's what we look like during the summer after a lot of time at the beach etc. Make up however, yes, that is quite standard though.

Most people in my family (who happen to not have red hair are even the same way) being able to tan naturally isn't the most common thing.. Just sayin..

@MrLeo751 I can't say from my own experiences. I've had many discussions about "Janteloven" with people from Sweden and Denmark online though. From what I can gather from the "ex-patriots" who left those countries Norway seems to be the worse about "farm boy" mentality. Sweden is a close 2nd but Denmark tends to be much less severe due to the recent diversification of the country. By "farm boy" syndrome I mean that "my way is best because I don't know of any other way" mentality.

Despite what Norwegians think, they are not cultured by their travels. Taking an English speaking tour of St Peters Church does not make you an expert on Italian culture. Norwegians live very isolated lives back home, they have a very homogenous culture so not only do they have a tendency to one way thinking due to their isolation but Janteloven only exaggerates what is a very obvious information/education problem.
