  • you're still my hero, but I think you sang it a little too fast. Compare it to Caruso and the way he caresses the words.

  • It s very very bad. Why did he changed the lyrics??? Why ? Why ? SHAME !!

  • What the heck? o.O These aren't the lyrics I remember (at least some of them aren't), and the arrangement is weird. But oh, well. Altered lyrics or not, this is good. He sang the familiar lyrics in "Italia Ti Amo" (albeit a half-step down, because it was recorded when he was 65).

  • A very different arrangement from the others. Especially the lyrics…it's like he's singing it from another perspective at times?

  • I love Placido but I don't think this song (aria, actually) is for him. For me it is much too fast also. But hey, what the ....Placido has been singing and thrilling audiences for over 40 years so I am not complaining!

  • The best tenor ever! Each song with his voice is just amazing... I'm melting listening, even being kitsch! :)

  • Disappointing, not a patch on Caruso's version

  • I love Placido!!!

  • Domingo sings some songs extremely well. Others only so-so.

About three dozen versions of Musica Proibita, professional and amateur alike, have been posted on YouTube.

So far the "best," by which I mean extracts the most potential from the lyrics, is Alfredo Kraus's.

Check it out and see if you don't agree!

The last thing I want to do is get into a heated argument with anyone.

I'm merely sharing my own impression, not laying down the law.

  • I even like the Gobbi version better. Not to impugn Domingo's version, but I have to confess I don't think it's as good.

Gastaldon was born in Turin and the words are good Italian, not Neapolitan.

  • Wow this is great!! I wish that Pavarotti made a recording of this song in the early years... I like his interpretation of this song from the 80's though.

  • bravo Placido!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wonderful Placi, you're always my No. 1 !!

  • Placido is Placido. But honestly this song was much better sang by singers like Mario del Monaco and G. Di Stefano.

  • Bravo Placido

Grande maestro!!!

  • You're right, but anyhow I think this is one of the most beautiful love songs and the way Domingo sings I can feel all the love in it, thanks !

  • Thank you - very beautiful song and very beautiful photos. I love the way Placido sings this song as A MAN. In this song girl asks "I don't underastand why MY mother forbids you to sing under my balcony". Placido changes the text and sings "YOUR mother", because it must be HE who sings under a balcony of the girl :-)

  • He's done it, too. He used to serenade Marta (and also her mother) when they were courting. He'd go hire a mariachi, but he'd do the singing. See his autobiography.
