Hi I like your system. Here's another container gardening tip: try mulching to cut down on how often you have to water. I used baked clay balls and had amazing results, watered about a quarter as often.
Good old Aussie ingenuity loved the set up. Would have taken me a few tinnies and thinking time to set that one up cheers, now I can just set it up and enjoy the tinnies.
I have done my research across the web and have found a system that can be used in any climate. It is low cost, low watering but highly productive. The Garden Master created The Bucket Garden, you can grow in as little as a 4x6 space. Do your research before going out and spending time and money on pots and soil, this system will change the way you eat.
What exactly are those pots you have hanging on the railing? What are they called or did you make them yourself?
I setup my balcony garden earlier today, and was looking for something like those but couldn't find anything. I ended up just buying plastic rectangle planters, and cut small holes in the side and zip tied them to my balcony railing. They kind of sag, though, so we'll see what happens.
That's wild man, I like it! ; D *thumbs up* Outdoor hydroponics.. lol the cool thing about those translucent bins, is that you'll be able to actually see the water level in them.. I look forward to watchin more bro! ; )
I discovered that Coles gets it's broccoli in big polystyrene boxes with lids. I asked if I could take some of the empty boxes and they said yes, they only throw them out anyway. Perfect for using in a balcony vegie garden - and free! I painted the outside of them with some leftover paint, so now they're red and don't look quite so much like polystyrene boxes. Put some holes in the bottom with an apple corer for drainage and away you go.
You should see the gardening system I found! The Most Advanced Gardening System In The World. You can actually grow anywhere in the world with it and at any time or temperature. When I was in Arizona I visited there’re demonstration gardens. They were awesome!! They provide e-mail support and video instruction and demonstrations. They also provide a garden clinic once a month that you can attend and that will soon be televised online. The Garden Master dot com Check it out!
Well I like yr accent, not bcuz Im a fellow kiwi but bcuz its a cool accent & Im glad that yr posting Gr8 info up....BTW: I really enjoyed yr video - Im at seedling stage w/my balcony garden & Ive failed a few times & each time gets daunting. but I solider on! I have z same prob in summer & sydney is weird weather right now, supposedly spring going in2 summer but its so freezing, im worried 4 all my seedlings wit z schizophrenic weather...
Great idea to convert the containers to self-watering bedding gardens for the balcony. I would like more information on the hook up device in the laundry. I'm not familiar with its name or what those little dials under the plexiglass actually do. I like the retrofit using the aquarium hosing and sprinkler tees, but could use a brief "how to" with a close-up to see how its done. Thanks for your small space gardening insight. I am looking forward to Part 2.
good idea... was thinking of a similar setup, thought i may put a couple inches of shingle/small stones at the bottom to hold the water in. then i can keep the lids for colder months when im trying to grow seeds.
Yeh mate thats the one, Just want to make sure the soil isn't sitting in the water at the bottom as it starts to rot. It will be easier for the roots to grow through too. Not much point in putting the hoses in the front. Found it best to just have small sprinkler on top which worked well for the seedlings. Good luck
Great work mate. It must be hot where you are. Heres a tip: use organic material (like kitchen scraps such as veggies) and put them in the top of the pots as a mulch- that way you keep the moisture in and feed the plants at the same time.
Thanks man, Yeh its working good, I've got the sprinkler set up on top which works well. Since i planted the seeds i haven't touched the whole setup. Will post a video when they are a little bigger. p.s (dodgy video) yeh I think i should stick to the gardening : )

Thanks for the great video! Did you have to buy extra fertilizer or just the potting mix is enough for those veggies?
