Yeah, but knocking down mountains to get at the coal and pushing the debris into rivers ain't cool regardless of what burning coal does to the air. Besides, sustainable energy works forever and will create jobs. What's wrong with that?

Sustainable energy (wind/solar) doesn't work forever. It works when conditions are right. Because of that, sustainable energy devices need conventional electricity supply stations in operation ALL THE TIME in 'spinning standby'. That is redundant, wasted, conventionally created energy. They're a net negative impact on the environment any way you slice it. Nuclear power is the only source with zero emissions. It is the safest source ever.

Just checking, but that's a joke, right? Well, if not, it's still hilarious. Nuclear fission creates waste that will never go away and we still have no safe place to store it. Plus, there is always the possibility of a meltdown. In my view, if we can go to the moon or make the A-bomb, we can figure out a safe, sustainable, and reliable source of energy with the right leadership. What about nuclear fusion

Waste and emissions are not the same. As I said before - Nuclear power is the only source with ZERO emissions. It is the safest source for energy even factoring its extremely rare occurences of mishap. Would you rather keep leveling mountains or store material deep under the earth? Either way - wind and solar is not your salvation. Wherever these sources are found there is redundant conventional power sources...running all day every day - it is entirely unavoidable.

Your wrong. Climate change is a scientific fact, it's accelerating, it's already doing significant harm, and human activities are mostly responsible for it. Climate change has been vetted and documented in excruciating detail by the largest, longest, costliest, most international, most interdisciplinary, and most thorough formal review of a scientific topic ever conducted. Read the IPCC, or thousands of scientific studies.

Oh, I've read the IPCC. The Mann Study that is foundational to the IPCC has been categorically, under peer review, been proven as a fraud. Many of the signers have now gone on to sue the IPCC. 30K scientists in fields related to climatology (including 10K PHD's) have signed the petition started by the former pres of the NAS to expose this hoax. 30K! Now the IPCC builds its false case around consensus (which is not science) - and 30K professionals says bullshit.

All this talk of renewable energy is pretty much pointless. We should have just jumped on board with Europe and start building a Nuclear Fusion plant. Nuclear Fusion is the technology that will really be the answer.

Yes for the short term, drilling will take far too long. We need to fire up those nuke plants and begin to develop and put forth effort into renewable energy, not drilling. Nuke is by far the most efficient and easily executed, but it is far too dangerous to run our country on for years to come. Chernobyl ring any bells? There must be something done in the short term and nuclear plants ARE the answer! It will give us time to set up the infrastructure necessary to make renewable energy possible.

You're thinking of Nuclear Fission. Nuclear Fission is totally different, dangerous, and wasteful. Nuclear Fusion is completely different and far cleaner. In France they're starting construction of the first ever Nuclear Fusion plant. Go Google it, it's really interesting.

The byproduct may be cleaner, but the waste of any nuclear reaction is dangerous to the environment. Fusion is still experimental, at any rate nuclear power should not be the end all be all. Their are efficient energy resources that are basically untapped and should be used to allow us to have energy dependence.

It doesn't produce waste though. Show me where Nuclear Fusion creates waste. It produces usable molecules... Nuclear Fission creates waste. Nuclear Fusion can easily be the end all be all of energy. It's clean, safe, and super efficient. Yes, it's still experimental but, it's underway in France. It's expected to be completed in 16 years.
