It happened slowly over a period of years, because Madison Avenue began to realize that the younger they went in the market, the less they had to worry about the quality of the product. Tweens have lower standards than teens; they also have less understanding of the value of money because their parents still buy everything for them. That's my best guess.

I don't brag about enjoying Green Day, I just enjoy it...but I'm sick of hearing about how much my favorite bands are either crap or a living fail. I get it. You would rather listen to some angry, thoughtless metal or punk band (not saying that Metallica is thoughtless, they actually put some thought into it). I happen to love Green Day. I'm with you man. Green Day may be a little mainstream, but so what? They're a lot better than these OTHER mainstream so-called "bands", like the Jonas Brothers. And just because something's mainstream doesn't make it bad. What makes it bad is if a band goes mainstream for the money.
