Asian school like in Philippines tend to focus more on education rather than research because we don't have money to support a research. Only if we have enough fund for it, i am sure we will go beyond the global expectation.

Problem with NTU is that it tries to compete in English - you;ll never win go back to Chinese as you were 30 years ago

rangkings are useful for highschool/undergrads or for short, kids. if you're going to do grad study, the utmost important is professor's reputation/ability, which is not always work in the top 100s universities.

Finally, I'd like to say this rankings could be accurate if we take into consideration business faculties. I'm sure American and British graduates could sell skunk ass hamburgers and high risk mortgage loans backed securities to people.

I can tell what's going on here, UK editors sell their spots to these "universities in the US" which are actually money making campuses. They systematically leave the real universities, such as the German and Japanese ones well below on the list, the Russian ones don't even make it in the 100's.

Everyone knows US great scientists, but they are actually Europeans and Indians residing there. So don't give me this BS Times Higher Education, please raise your evaluation methods standards.

Times rankings for higher education is the worst publication I have ever seen.

MIT is on top of the world for engineering? I study engineering and their courses on calculus and general math in the OCW are ridiculous to say the least, high school material.

I also studied music in the US in what happened to be the "best school in modern music" in the world. I tell you what; they were the easiest and lamest classes in music I've ever had.

Also, the University of Dundee has a pretty BAD ACADEMIC REPUTATION. It is ranked 41st out of about 110 universities in the UK, which is not a great ranking. Avoid this university at all costs.

Well, this video is made based on the Times ranking, we're not saying that the ranking is right, rather, we analyze the criteria of the ranking to understand why Western unis, esp US unis are always at the top. At the end of the day, every ranking is relative, however, it does serve some purposes for students in decision making.

There is a university in the United Kingdom called the University of Dundee. It's in Scotland. I would very strongly urge Chinese students who're thinking of coming to the UK to undertake undergrad or postgraduate studies to NOT enrol at the University of Dundee. Many Chinese students at this university have been racially abused (either verbally, and in some cases physically.) Some lecturers at this university are very racist towards Chinese students and the city of Dundee is also VERY racist.

@hujintao3 Not sure what's your problem or maybe you had a bad experience there but personally I have heard GREAT things about the university from other exchange students. Your negative experience does not mean it is true for all Chinese students. I will be going there for exchange next year, and I'm Chinese-Canadian, and I'm not afraid at ALL about fitting in. I've heard the international society is awesome from people I know. I think your comments are quite immature!

@hujintao3 yes I'm having an amazing time here actually! sorry to disappoint you! :) i love my professors too - i'm actually taking Scots history course and all the Scots I've met have been AMAZINGLY friendly both at the university and the locals. sorry you had such a horrible time here - maybe you just didn't bother to get to know anyone! the Chinese friends I've made here have had no problems either :) so, hope you're doing well back in China or wherever you went to! LOL :)

This is a bull shit. Iran / Eygpt have had universities from antiquity. They knew thousands of years BC about the Earth being round. The University of Gundishapoor of Persia (300-600 AC) was number one university in the world in science/medicine! The west learnt all its knowledge from the east. Yes they advanced but in the price of ripping up other people and steeling our wealth otherwise they had nothing!

Can you believe that Mogadishu Universty(Somalia) is in the top 50/100 universities in Africa? What is the big deal? Well, the country has no cetral gov. for more than a decade and half. This is to show that had they have a stable gov. they would've been ranked globaly.
