@c0rruptpures How do you figure? There is a difference between borrowing techniques and licks from someone thats influences you, and playing the EXACT SAME WAY as someone. Jimi had a very light touch to his playing, while SRV what the opposite most of the time. Two very different styles, while sharing similar techniques. This KWS seems like he is trying to imitate SRV exactly, without really showing me how KWS himself plays.
Sorry, snhlandman u r right though we shouldnt compare anymore lol, thats stevies fingers on that guitar listen to kennies playing. i had quit listenin to him for a while then just found this video and was thinking wow. i think he is paying great respect to his mentor and the path that stevie laid before him. if i didnt see this video and someone asked me who was playing guitar I would of told you stevie ray vaughn
Why don't we all stop comparing Kenny Wayne Shephard to SRV. There was only one SRV but I'm sure he's smiling down on kenny when he hears him playing like this. It's the biggest compliment you can give your hero when you play his style of music and play it outstanding!
I agree with w900L, KWS doesn't wow me. there are alot of guitarists out there that are playing the same stuff, Kenny with all due respect -just a bunch of licks played really fast. In reality hes just cashing in on a style (SRV) thats already been established, nothing original in his playing or style.
A valiant effort, but just not the same. Sorry to be the one that says it. I'm no hater. His chops are close to SRV's, but for the discerning ear, it comes up short. Watch SRV and Double Trouble Live at The ElMocambo. "Texas Flood" is what he's rehashing here.
@w900L well i dont know if its supposed to be the same, i mean id bet alot of things he could play the song identically to stevie's but its his little twist of it.
Its been many years that I attend a lot of blues festivals and listen to all of the great blues players and it is my opinion that KWS is the best electric blues player!!!! I am so happy that I had the chance to meet him and talk to him back at The Tremblant Blues festival near Montreal, for the first time last summer. KWS is so great just like SRV was to the younger generation and make them love the blues!!
We should all be grateful to KWS for carrying on the blues the way he does !
I have seen KWS in both Montreal and Tremblant Blues Festival and I can state without hesitation that he is the best blues SRV-type player in the world. That video is simply a true testament to KWS's deep inner blues soul and superior guitar skills!!

STEVIE is an impossible act to follow!!! Nice try,but STEVIE was a miracle of Blues guitar. Admire him, enjoy him,but don't bother trying to be him!
