My top ten: 1) Highway 61 Revisited 2) Blonde On Blonde 3) Blood On The Tracks 4) Bringing It All Back Home 5) The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan 6) Desire 7) The Times They Are A-Changin' 8) Nashville Skyline 9) Another Side of Bob Dylan 10) John Wesley Harding Not easy to pick a top 10. I have 16 of his albums so far and I like them all.
i guess everyone has their favourite dylan albums, i'd have to put his soundtrack album for pat garrett and billy the kid in there along with the shot of love album, they have a special place in my heart along with all the rest of his brilliance.
Such a difficult choice to make does get you thinking though agree with most of the 10 but maybe not in that order think Desire should be in there and Blonde on Blonde at no1 not only Dylans best but best album ever in my opinion
I couldn't agree more with the albums but i would change the order. Im so glad you have Live from the Royal Albert Hall because his rocked up One too Many Mornings blew my mind. BTW Stuck inside of mobile: Stunning Song]

Hmmmm. Interesting comments. Tough to name the top 10 Dylan. What makes Dylan the best is the diversity of his catalogue. My list - Oh Mercy, Time Out Of Mind, Blonde On Blonde, Love And Theft, Empire Burlesque, Under The Red Sky, Modern Times, Desire, Bringing It All Back Home and Freewheelin. However, next week this list may be a little different.....lol.
I can't believe the compiler of this list included "Nashville Skyline" and left out "Desire". Not my 10 favourites, although it comes close. i would also have included his first album "Bob Dylan", an underrated masterpiece.
blonde on blonde, blood on the tracks, jon wesley harding, desire, bringing it all back home, highway 61 revisited, freewheelin, world gone wrong, time out of mind, the times they are a changin
1.Highway, 2.Blood On The Tracks, 3.Blonde, 4.Times,5.Freewheelin,6.Bringing it all back home, 7.Time out of Mind,8.Bob Dylan, 9.Oh Mercy, 10.Infidels. My opinion.
remember the ten commandments includes - thou shall put blonde on blonde. highway 61 revisited and blood on the tracks always in the top three dylan albums list
his 10 best in no paticular order only in order of release date because it too hard to pick a TOP 10 any hardcore dylan fan will tel you Bob dylan (1962) The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan (1963) The Times They Are A-Changin' (1964) Another Side of Bob Dylan (1964) Bringing It All Back Home (1965) Highway 61 Revisited (1965) Blonde On Blonde (1966) John Wesley Harding (1967) Nashville Skyline (1969) Blood On The Tracks (1975) these are debatable New Morning (1970) Desire (1976)
Although I dont agree with your order, we can all agree that the way Dylan leaps form genre to genre, style to style, even character to character makes him a greater influence both poetically, politically , and musically from anyone else in the 20th Century.
How you could place 'Blonde on Blonde', 'Highwya 61 Revisited' and 'Blood on the Tracks', so far down is beyond me. These are the three best Dylan Albums and this is the view of nearly every serious Dylan fan I have ever met. 'Live 1966', although good, is not an original album and so, can't be included. Nice try though.
bob started losing me w/ john wesley harding, his early stuff was just so far ahead of everyone else, almost every track on every album was a memorable part of the 60's for me. later stuff: try New Morning, very underrated
Like a Rolling Stone probably the best pop song ever written by Anyone Lennon/McCartney/Simon/Wilson/John/Taylor/King/Joel included, imho
@RetroTop10 The Boxer would have been my S&G pick although Mrs Robinson is right up there for composition & performance! but dylan....most brilliant artist of his time!!
@cloudshe The question is...what is his time? Haha. I don't think Simon and Dylan can be compared. They were both geniuses but very different. I'm trying to get around to making a S&G top 10 song list.
was good list but tends alot for having the folky dylan's record in the forst places, but it saves bbya putting bringinin' all back home in the 2nd place!
my top ten (not including the live albums) 1 Blood on the Tracks 2 Blonde on Blonde 3 Highway 61 4 Bringing it all Back Home 5 The Freewheelin' 6 John Wesley Harding 7 The Time They are A'Changin 8 Another Side 9 Desire 10 Love and Theft
I'm glad the Live 1966 made it; the second disc of that is truly great. In particular, the live version of "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues"...I think I like it better than the studio version.
I guess it's pretty obvious that you're not really into any later Dylan stuff. But, seriously, even Infidels didn't make the cut? Wow. "Jokerman", "Sweetheart Like You", "Neighborhood Bully"? Come on.
I can't stand Bob's voice on Nashville Skyline nor Self Portrait , but to each his own, some of my favourite Dylan albums would be Desire, Another Side Of Dylan, Infidels, Highway 61 Revisited and Blood On The Tacks
@lemmonorange68 Yea I like each for different reasons. The studio versions are clear and more refined but the live versions seem to have more emotion and improvisions.
@gramster77 I have one ready to upload Im just trying to figure out what concert an artist is performing in to add the information. I have many more ideas and will try to make a video every week or so. Have any suggestions?
@4beerstime I listened to Dylan's early stuff first and then moved on to his later albums so for me his "folk" albums have more meaning and originality but it's so hard to choose!
And no "Modern Times" that is a surprise but then music is in the ear of the listner good job

"Blood on the Tracks" is WAY over-rated.
"Oh Mercy" is not listed. An unpardonable omission.
(I've been worshipping at the altar of Bob since '76).

I still feel the New York version of Blood on the Tracks is better than the one that we got.
