  • dont buy this ssd full of problem

  • was going to get a iMac 2011 model and add a SSD drive will cost 999.00NZD WTF!

  • @3r3turn ssds are very expensive

  • hows the drive holding up? i heard there were some issues with this drive along with other sand force controlled drives. please let me know as i am in dyer need of an SSD for my iMac.

  • could one install 3 SSD's (SSD/normal harddrive/dvd) in the 27 imac and put them in a raid config then?

that ought be pretty damn sweet!!

  • Once I ate a chicken.

  • what are u using to record on-screen video?

  • Comment removed

  • how did you keep both drives??

  • DID YOU SEE THAT THERES NOT TRIM ON THERE , I HOPE LION SEE'S IT AND ENABLES IT ,sorry for the caps , just to see this , peace

  • @djglobeone Modern Solid State Drivers do not require TRIM.

  • @eddymunn Can you elaborate or provide link? Im thinking about upgrade my MBP to SSD and I know there was a problem with trim TRIM.

  • did you had any problems with fans and cooling system ? And once installed, did you had to do anything with s.m.a.r.t ? Cos from what i have been reading on the internet, SSD that is to be installed must be s.m.a.r.t varified ( or something ). Do you know anything about this ?

  • @Zutko

did you ever hear anything about this?

  • Im planning on buying iMac 27" i5 coz i7 imac is not available in my country. But the ssd option would cost me around 1200 us$. A ocz is costing me 350$ with installation. Im planning to use windows on it too. should i put the ssd. or it is a waste of money (I'll be using it for photo editing and games)

  • Hi mate no one gives me a definite answer and I'm wondering if its possible to upgrade graphics cards etc on macs too save me from buying another ?

  • It is possible to upgrade manually the video card to? you know from 1gb ram to 2gb ram.

  • fuck the 2 drives just use the ssd full time

  • lmao you paid $150 for labor what a waste.. you could change it yourself fairly easy without voiding your warranty. oh well i like to keep my money well spent haha

  • @sdfxrplv2

    Show me.

  • I bought the same SSD but I'm having trouble finding someone who can offer the installation of this drive as simply as you described. Did you have to bring them the SATA cables and the new pressure mount to install the drive? My Apple Authorized Service Centre said that they're having problems finding the right components. Did you receive a specific detailed work order or list of components used in the installation?

  • Tldtoday or anybody tell me if they can upgrade a video card on the 21 inch iMacs

  • how do u make the ssd the boot drive

  • If anyone wants the developer preview of iOS 5 please send me a message for further details

  • WOW you dont know how to change it your self.....but nice review tho

  • Great Video!! I'm about to go the same way and install a 256GB SSD along my 2TB HDD. I read, that there could be some heat issues, or the SSD not "reporting" actual heat level and make the fan go "crazy". Have you encountered such an issue? Thanks.

  • Looking forward to the in depth!

  • OR you could do it yourself :)

  • could i do this on my late 2010 macbook pro?

  • love the vid

  • will it work on non-apple laptop too ? Its 2.5' right ?

  • So ? How much ?

  • I want that headphones in the back

  • What kind of replacement icons are you using for the hard drives Jon?

  • r u running lion beta?

  • Can you buy these off the shelf and install them? That would be good if you could, but probably can't? :(

  • Any amount of ram past 8gb is just a waste and far too overkill. Unless your working for NASA or doing some massive rendering its a giant waste.

  • @dodplayer11

Simply not true. Yes, for most people 8gb will do just fine but for professional use 12 or 16gb is often required.

  • how you but a drive in that imac because the 2011 imac only support apple drive

  • you sir are such a geek, i have no idea what the hell you are talking about but i thumbed up anyways

  • lmfao why the fuck do I keep getting some bada music video? I hate Google, EVO, and YouTube.

  • Hey, if an independent service centre fits the SSD will Apple's warranty be invalidated?

  • Giveaway @ MikeMitchelltv channel 2 iPhone 4's go check it out!!

  • Which service center did the installation for you? some places won't do it because the missing bracket. Thanks

  • Hey, what is the wallpaper u have on there? Looks awesome, great video btw!

  • Can anybody give me some advice on what ssd to get OWC extreme pro 6gbps or the ocz vertex 3???

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for all the useful links you post with your videos. Very helpful!

  • That is insanely fast, especially with the 6Gb/s!

  • I have a 2011 13" MacBook pro and I don't know whether to put a 120GB OWC mercury pro 6Gb or the vertex 3. I'm looking for speed and reliability. Which would u suggest?

  • how did you change the icon for your ssd?

  • @codebraker12 candybar 3

  • @codebraker12 Right Click on the icon, on the top left hand corner should be an icon. Just paste a new icon on top of it. :)

  • @codebraker12 Klik 'het info' on the disk and then you can drag the icon over the existing icon, you can also do this with folders.

  • is it easy to do it yourself?>

  • That be awesome in the new Mac minis

  • @tldtoday is the ssd used in this video the same as what you use for a macbook pro?

  • will it work on 2009 late imac i7 27 inch

  • what about trim???

  • Awesome wallpaper! Where can I get it? Nice vid btw ;-)

  • can you send a link to the wallpaper? looks cool.

  • hey jon, where did you get your background on your imac from??

  • Can you do that on MacBook Pro 17?

  • Hey Jonathan I think I seen your girlfriend at mt.sac. That must mean u live somewhere near there... Anyway I can join the team? :P

  • Great video as always! :)

  • Always wanted a mac, and now, I still want one.

  • i want what you got...wat i'll give to be bill gates; probably this emachines

  • @tldtoday : Will the OCZ vertex 3 work on the latest 2011 macbook pros?

  • @Creepyzombie007 Yep :)

  • @tldtoday Kind of on the off topic but I am now a proud owner of GSM iphone 4 I'm happy with it so far.

  • @tldtoday Hi I want to buy an ssd but can't deside which one!

corsair force series 120gb or ocz vertex 3 120gb?!

  • Nice!

  • Does anyone know if the 2011 MacBook Pro's use Sata3 ?

  • @scottyboyy99 Yes they do.

  • Hey you stupid asshole. What about the data doubler video for the macbook pro?!?!?

  • @GrandPunch I should upload it tomorrow and block you right before so you can't see for being such a DBag.

  • @tldtoday LOL. Good to see someone standing up for themselves. Why wait to block the guy, though?

  • Hi! I am about to buy an iMac for school on which I am going to surf the web, write articles and watch videos. I am thinking on getting the 256 SSD with the 1TB HDD. I am also going to buy 16GB or memory and install it myself, but the only thing I don't really know is if I should take an i5 or i7 processor. Is there really a big difference? And is it worth the extra money? Thanks! :)

  • I bought a new iMac with the standard 1TB hard drive. Since I didn't do the upgrade with the secondary SSD, can that be added later? Is that what you did?

  • @brad13ify yes thats what he did and its better, apple overcharges for their ssd and they use lower quality ssds

  • I want an SSD, but I need so much space.

  • I gotta upgrade my iMac. I cant decide between this or 16gb of ram

  • the worst thing to do is get an ssd form apple i've heard theyre slower and not to mention more expensive...no apple ssd can compare to a good ocz or intel drive

  • do you really need 16gb? i dont thinks so...overkill

  • Other than that, I need to head to work now.

  • Get a pc ;)

  • Wallpaper link is on the description

  • where did you get that wallpaper i loved it! i want the same one!! plzz answer i asked in previous videos but noonw answered.. :S

  • It such a shame that 2011 MBP has the optical bay as SATAII.

  • @sikachu it wouldnt make a difference something has to actually be able to use the sata 3 speeds to be an advantage only ssds can really

  • @Luger718A1 but I'd rather put the SSD in the Optibay at the optical drive, instead of the normal HDD slot for better protection ;)

  • @sikachu ohh ok didnt know u meant to replace the optical drive... :D yea now u make sense...but honestly a good sata 2 ssd is still worth it...most people wont ever be using the full potential of a sata3 ssd in normal day usage

  • @Luger718A1 Yeah I totally agree. But somehow, comparing the price of Vertex 2 and 3, I'd rather get the Vertex 3 and squeeeeeeeeeeeze the max performance out of it, right? :P

    Vertex 2 @ 240GB => $409.99

    Vertex 3 @ 240GB => $484.99

  • @sikachu honestly you wouldnt notice a diffence i mean whats 1 second in bootup time? vertex 2 acan pretty much saturate all the bandwidth of sata 2

  • basically a vertex 3 and vertex 2 will perform equally on a sata ii connection

  • @Luger718A1 I see. Yeah and I think they both going to be way faster than the HDD for sure ;)

  • Awesome pick up Jon :D

  • thanks. will i get 6GB/s on my 2011 macbook pro too?

  • @jkcfx Yes you will :)

  • your wallpaper is it from new Zealand

  • Comment removed

  • cool

  • Best SSD ever!

  • Whats the difference between the OCZ and OWC? Wanna do a benchmark test for both and compare them?

  • I got the same wallpaper as you ;)

  • how do you change the image of your drives? very interested :)

  • Dude where did you get the your wallpaper for.

  • Ha man your iMac is going to be so fast it will grow legs and beat hussain bolt in the 100 metre sprint ;-)

  • You clearly have a lot of money to dump into this kind of things... are you one of those designers that gets 4500 bucks a month? I've been one of them for some time and I just loved to spend like a crazy on fancy hardware for no particular reason. It's all good!

  • i want a mac soon if i can afford it heh

  • where did you ger your background from?????????? Anyone??

  • did i hear him say he paid 150 bucks just so someone can install the SSD lol.. is it hard installing memory into imac's or something? because with the 150 bucks you could have bought a bigger SSD =/

  • @linkinpain dude i dont know got lost after the first 7 seconds

  • Isn't 1TB 1024GB? lol i don't mean to troll i just wondered

  • @0Mynameisjason0 Link's in the description :D

  • do you even know how geeky you sounded?

  • @zachman1024 is it bad?

  • @zachman1024 HOW geeky did I sound? =P

  • how much did it cost you to get this done by an apple autherized store? and is this including the ssd or did you bring your own in? thanks connor bracegirdle

  • @MrLegend139 SSD was $299 on NewEgg and labor was $150 :)

  • Thanks for the interesting videos. Tired of "sex jokes" shit.

  • @beleaf169 no probs bobs :D

  • I didn't think you could put normal drives in the new imacs i thought they changed the number of pins or sumfin

  • I have a question. Someone PLEASE answer this because I am going to buy an iMac but don't know what the difference between the ones they offer.

    What's the difference between the 2.5, 2.7, 2.8 and 3.1 Quad-Core?

Then it says 4G memory and 500GB Hard drive and 1TB hard drive. What's the difference between the 4GB memory and 500GB or 1TB Hard drive?

    SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER THIS.

  • @Checkeredboy95 The difference between the 2.5, 2.7, 2.8, and 3.1 Quad core is the speed (I would get the 2.8) 4GB of Memory (Memory=Ram Ram=Random Access Memory) is ok for most games and normal day use. a 500GB HDD (HDD or HD= Hard Drive) is half of 1TB... I would get the 1TB HDD :) Hope that helps

  • @smamsp So the difference between Hard drive and RAM is?

  • @Checkeredboy95 2.5 is the slowest. 3.1 is the fastest.

    500gb is less than 1tb. 1tb is 1000gb.

  • @Checkeredboy95 Wow, you need some help understanding what a computer is, and I seriously hope youre not kidding.

2.5, 2.7, 2.8... etc. Those are the values designated with the clock speed for the processor. Quad-core means that the processor has has four physical cores on a single chip.

4GB of RAM, (Random access memory) deals with running applications, the more RAM you have, the more multitasking you will be able to do.

500GB and 1TB (1TB=1000GB) those numbers refer to your harddrive..

  • @Checkeredboy95 RAM is the memory your OS and programs use whereas the Hard Drive is where your files are stored. 1TB = 1000GB

  • @tldtoday So the more RAM, the faster?

  • @Checkeredboy95 Not necessarily. The more RAM you get = better multitasking and will help with performance but the bulk of your speed comes from the CPU.

  • @tldtoday got it. Thanks!

  • @tldtoday 16gb is too much IMO, i was going for 12gb and thank god i went for 6gb. never saw my system utilizing over 4gb. Thats when playing crysis 2, and many apps in the background, includin PS CS5, itunes, 30+ tabs in safari and so on.

  • @bigdima3 Final Cut Pro uses around 6GB no problem and with 64bit programs like After Effects CS5 the more RAM the better so for what I do and plan on doing 16GB isn't too much.

  • @tldtoday Hey john, i have a question. Im going to collage now and i need a laptop. But i can only speed no more than 1,000$. So my quiestion is, shold i buy the new macbook air, or the white macbook. I don't really know what will be better for me :/ i hope you replt bro :)

  • @Checkeredboy95 Honestly, if you dont know that you have no business spending that kind of money on a computer

  • @Checkeredboy95 2.5 2.7 2.8 3.1 etc. would be the speeds of your processor/computer, the higher the better anything over 2.7 or 2.8 would be pretty good

  • @Checkeredboy95 If you were the type of person going to buy an imac, you would probably know this.

  • @webos1337 Well NOW I know.

    Just ordered it.

  • @webos1337 exactly...the worst thing he could do is drops $2000 on an imac then only use it for facebook -_-

  • @Checkeredboy95 please do your homework before buying a new computer, especially a mac. decide what you need it for and then decide how much you wanna spend then decide if you actually need mac os x or is a windows system fine....its actually better to buy a mac with low memory and upgrade it yourself. and its far less cheaper to buy a windows pc if all you need it for is for home use/internet browing etc....

  • @Luger718A1 I already did. I bought the 21.5 2.7 GHz.

  • @Checkeredboy95 eh :-\

  • @Luger718A1 might as well buy one with 1TB of memory. I'm gonna bring it to my dorm. I'm a Junior next year and I got a full ride scholarship to ASU. So I'll bring it with me when I move out.

  • Unreal how fast it is. Wow.

  • @larrygreenberg It is. Scary how it's getting RAID like speeds out of a single drive.

  • SSD= Super Sex Drive

  • May 21st is my b'day!

  • @TheRichboy247 i mean may 31st.

  • how odd i spoke to you yesterday about this XD

  • Super Speedy Drive is what SSD should stand for.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheDevasia I know, I was making a joke/observation because that thing's fast.

  • @ZimmervisionCZ if you're in lala land

  • Awesome! Great vid as always. :)
