  • What's with the earring, is Mr Clean Gay?

  • Poor odg

  • Mr. Clean really hates DiRT. I thought it was an awesome game.

  • That poor dog probably had dry skin and bald patches for months after that bath!

  • It even cleans lil wiener dogs! Amazing!

  • The MEAN Mr. Clean is from 1965 and not 1960.

  • That's Bonnie Herman of the Singers Unlimited singing.

  • So... I'm unsure how does this Mr. Clean look like, and what he hates?

  • 0:20 Umm, it's said Mr. Clean works a lot like liquid sandpaper. I wouldn't recommend that

  • @dashwarts like sandpaper?!

  • @heine71 If I recall, Wikipedia claims the key ingredient is a lot like fiberglass, and rubbing something with fiberglass particles would be a lot like rubbing something with sandpaper.

  • The vocalist on this is Bonnie Herman, former female vocalist for the Singers Unlimited. One of the other members was the late Len Dresslar, who has his own special place in TV commercial history: he supplied the "ho ho ho" for the Jolly Green Giant from 1960 through the 1980s.

  • Mr. Clean is a fucking Aryan Nazi

  • No powder? are they sure?

  • he`s MEAN!

  • He hates you, he hates cleanser, he hates Mr. Clean, he hates John McCain, he hates the Pope, he hates (Sonic speaking in German), he hates my gun, he hates YouTube Poop, he hates Fran, he hates Elmo, he hates T, he hates him, he hates hedgehogs, he hates everything he sees.

  • The woman at the end says "I LOVE him" in such a satisfied, contented voice. Hmmm . . . no wonder my dad made my mom use Pine-Sol.

  • @elc1960

LOL! I know I was like - that woman is doing something DIRTY with her Mr. Clean! ;)

  • @ljbimoore Sex sells - a time honored advertising axiom. It's never been more true than right now.

  • Wow, I didn't know you could clean a dog with Mr. Clean!

  • you dont fuck with mr. clean

  • he's totally a skinhead.

    WHITE POWR!

  • That version of Mr. Clean was from at least 1963, or perhaps 1964 or 1965 as it was still in black and white, because of the plastic bottle which was introduced in 1963, and there was a second version of the Mr. Clean commercial that was used in 1959 and 1960 that still had the old jingle in it along with the big round glass bottle which was made right after the original 1958 "Cleans Your Whole House" commercial.

  • I went on WikiPedia, and according to them, this ad was first shown in the U.S. in 1965.

  • 0:21-0:24

I'd be pretty mad if somebody cleaned my dog with Mr. Clean too.

  • Why would MEAN MR. CLEAN smile and wink at the end?

  • Cause he trusts you to buy his product...otherwise, he'll have to put the hurt on those who don't. And nobody wants that.

  • Mean Mr. Clean would definetly fuck you in prison.

woo scary all this time i thought he was nice

  • YOU LOVE NEW MEAN MR. CLEAN

  • DIRT, HE HATES DIRT!

  • no one is gonna clean their dog with it..

  • Mr. Clean used to around 1959-1960's, I think.

  • I met this guy once who was albino and he had shaved his head.

he was a nice guy... when i left i thought...

holy shit that guy looked just like mr clean!

  • THIS AD IS TOO REPETATIVE

  • Jingle singers are the subject of this video. Four regular jingle singers who worked on virtually every commercial produced in Chicago include Bonnie Herman, Len Dresslar, Gene Puerling, and Don Shelton, who became a recording group called The Singers Unlimited. I'm sure you're a very nice person and not an idiot. Please add any comments or insults you want, the video is terrific and is full of great memories. Thanks for posting the commercial.

  • I can't watch this without thinking of igiulamam's hilarious YTP and laughing my ass off.

  • NEW CLEAN MR. MEAN!

What made Mr. Clean so clean? DIRT!

  • Nothing cleans like DETERGENT!

  • NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE!

  • meanest sister you ever seen

  • He hates John Mccain

  • He also hates everything he sees

  • He hates Mr Clean

  • me to

  • "HE HATES DIRT!" man has anyone else had that line stuck in there head for weeks?

  • If only they would use variations of this jingle today.

  • Mr. Clean hates you?

  • I like how she's washing the fucking dog with Mr. Clean. I think people used to gargle with rubbing alcohol back then too. . .

  • I was not born until 1960, so I don't remember this one. I have seen the 1st Mr Clean commercial from 1958 here and it used to air as a retro-mercial on TV Land years ago. It is a definite change from the gleeful smile to the mean snarl, but both commercials end with his infamous wink.

  • Is this a Canadian version of this TV commercial since it shows some different labeling or something like that than the familar NEW BETTER CLEANING label bottle?

  • My dad, Thomas Cadden had Bonnie Herman try this jingle in a couple of different keys. The best take was in Ebm. Bonnie Herman's voice on this jingle is awesome.

  • He even moves his MEAN MOUTH a bit with a snarl or something like that!

  • Look him in his mean eyes!

  • Mr. Clean mean? LOL...

  • Sorry I posted 3 in a row...

  • Mr. Clean mean? LOL...

  • "Mr. Clean, he's mean, he hates dirt!"

  • epic

  • ang sungit niya pagmarumi ang bahay ayaw niya ang ibang sabong this is expert! 1960 Mr. Clean i love commercial kinakantahan koh yan!

  • By the way, was there a color version of this MEAN MR. CLEAN mid 1960's TV commercial?

Also: Why use a dog to clean with Mr. Clean cleaner like in this MEAN MR. CLEAN TV commercial and some other early Mr. Clean TV commercials?

  • Yeah I caught that...who cleans a dog with Mr. Clean.

  • Soap and water too?

  • Notice the liquid, powder, detergent, cleanser, and soap packages falling down a la dominoes?

  • Great Ad writing, direction & production (wrote jingle also) from Thomas Scott Cadden. Always kept the commercials moving and to the point. Kept P&G's Mr. Clean at the top of market share in the liquid cleaning products in the mid 60's.

  • Even some people thought one time MEAN MR. CLEAN was the MEANEST CLEANER in the world we've ever seen!

  • MEAN MR. CLEAN even winked at the end!

  • Why does Mr. Clean hate dirt though he was once mean?

  • What is the main reason that in the mid 1960's Procter and Gamble made Mr. Clean TEMPORARY MEAN?

  • "I love him!"

  • The MEAN version of Mr. Clean was short lived, then he was back to smiling all the time and still is to this current day.

  • mean? mr. clean's got the sweetest soul!

  • Mean or not mean, Mr. Clean is still friendly in today's advertising world!

  • By the way, did Mr. Clean's MEAN look scare you in the mid 1960's?

  • well, i wasn't born yet. did he scare you? it's a fantastic commercial. it's kinda sassy! :-)

  • No, I wasn't born until 1971, it was the 1975 Two Fisted Mr. Clean commercial that used to scare me, second to the Calgonite Spotmaker. Both commercials are on YouTube, of course.

  • two fisted mr. clean? i am trying to think if i have seen that one before. do you have it on your favorites - i subscribed to them. :-)

  • Yes, the Two Fisted Mr. Clean is in my favorites, but the ad is listed from 1972 when I knew it was from circa 1975!

  • My father Thomas Scott Cadden also wrote this jingle and wrote, produced and directed this commercial also in 1966. Barbara Bender is the singer. I believe she is a jazz singer. There were a number of versions of this commercial.

  • Do you have other versions of the Mean Mr. Clean commercials to post on YouTube.

And whatever became of Barbara Bender?

  • Correction... Bonnie Herman is singing this jingle. She was in a jazz group called Singers Unlimited.

  • Is Bonnie Herman still alive?

  • Bonnie Herman is very much alive and well.

  • I know that!

  • Bonnie Herman is a jazz singer too, WOW!

  • Bonnie Herman is one of the greatest singers ever. They say that when The Singers Unlimited went to the studio, her and Don Shelton would just sight-read the charts. And to sight-read a Gene Puerling chart is an amazing feat!

  • She definately could sing. I have some recording from the studio where my father had tried a couple of other singers, but Bonnie Herman blew them away. She made my father's tune swing.

  • What are the Singers Unlimited like?

  • They are like the greatest group ever. Actually, there are a lot of Hi-Lo's videos on YouTube. Gene Puerling sang and wrote charts for both the groups. The real difference is that the Singer's Unlimited have a female lead. So...sort of a Manhattan Transfer meets the Hi-Los. (Except they're 100x better than Manhattan Transfer).

  • Is Gene Puerling still alive?

  • Yep.

  • Yep.

  • You don't have to post twice by accident...

  • Gene Puerling recently passed away, earlier this year. He was a magnificent talent. Len Dressler, the bass voice of Singers Unlimited, also passed away.

  • Len Dressler was a Mr. Clean jingle singer? He even sang jingles for Green Giant Vegetables and Kellogg's Rice Krispies.

  • No, Len didn't sing Mr. Clean jingles to my knowledge. Just jingles in general. You know quite a bit about him without my 2 cents worth. Sorry.

  • Hell yeah!! Whenever this commercial came on TV, i'd run and hide.i thought Mr.Clean was going to come and get me.Honestly,it's amazing what a 3 year old can imagine.

  • You're not the only one ... he used to scare the crap out of me!

  • Where does Mr. Clean have a SWEET SOUL?

  • Just look in his eyes.

  • Well, it was a mean soul and not a sweet soul...

  • No soap? Nope!

  • Riddle: Why is Mr. Clean mean? Because he mops the dirt on the floor!

  • I think it's mid 1960's.

Does the Mr. Clean animation look like it was done by Filmation?

  • circa 1965 to my knowledge...
