I was bouncing back and forth between the Colt series 80 and the SA Mil Spec. It came down to preferred finish and collectibility. I love the Colt's blues finish even though the rounded edges look to be parkerized. I think the Colt will hold its value better. I don't know if this will be my only 1911, but if it is I think it should be a colt. I found a 2011 series 80 with "100 years of service" roll mark for $989 here in Canada, where they're harder to come by. Placing my order tomorrow.
Honestly dude, i like this gun better than that kimber you got. Dont get me wrong, the kimbers nice, it's just a little showy. I like the no BS look of the colt way better.
youuuuu fukkin bitch, I damn near pissed myself laughing at that one. You remind me of a guy I went to school with from New York. He usta say cool shit like that, thanks for the laughs and the damn fine videos... LDG
Hey buddy i just got mine, a series 80 1991 and the button that you push to take the gun apart at the end of the barrel is very stiff and hard to take apart any suggestions?
Hey pete, i looked at the Colt 2011 and 2010 catologs and cant find the model O 80 series. where can i find this model, i want to pick one up. thanks man
i dont think they knocked the points off of the checkering. i think the checkering is pressed in instead of actually being cut, so it wont feel as sharp because the points are pushed in instead of the lines being cut. those are all mabys though because i cant see the grips well but just look at them
Hey there Pete, if you have been carrying this as your personal carry piece I would love to hear your feedback on how the bluing is holding up. Found the same gun at the local shop for a fair price. But bluing gives me the jitters for fear of rust from carry.
fyi i have an all steel kimber "ultra carry II" (3 in) and i love it, take down can be a pain but it shoots nice my 11 yr old loves it too, only issue right now is i put some ergo brand grips on it and they bite hand meat a bit
man that is a sick gun I'd leave it just the way it is keep it looking classic. but then again it is your gun and you can do whatever the hell you want with it. lol
Another beautiful 1911 Pete. I sent you a PM about a Kimber I just purchased. Hope to hear back from you. Dont forget about us little guys who watched your channel when you had 300 subs and not 4600. Im just sayin...
not to tell you what to do, but having a youtube channel about guns and basically.. threatening some idiot who was talking crap, who is having even more fun cause you got mad about it.. doesn't look too good for you =/. just tryin to help :]
hope everthing is better pete pm me i want to know how to get a shirt sometime i agree with u im a 1911 fan like u r colt will be my first 1911 i get back i want twins nice gun pete anyluck with a job ?
I have the HK USP Compact .45 and racking the slide back is SO easy , and the S&W 1911PD is a bitch , they should have made those serrations on the slide more aggressive like what the Ed Brown Cobra Carry has to go with that strong recoil spring.
I got extremely drunk lastnight and today my girlfriend refuses to speak to me... I musta done something bad. I've checked the wardrobe and the laundry basket just to make sure I didn't take a piss or even a shit in there... I still can't work out what I did... so I checked YouTube for an Armory Channel update, thanks dude, you took me out of isolation for 12 minutes and 33 seconds... Maybe I tried to ram my dick in her ass...
Now now Pete you should know that you have to check with the Gun Police before you trade YOUR gun in to get what YOU want with YOUR money. Hey I'm happy for you and I'm getting ready to do the same thing tomorrow with one of my Sig's my buddies say im stupid for selling my 232 w/o night sites for one with, guess what, not their call, I want the nicer sites, if I could change them I would but I can't.
Pete, I really like your regular guy approach, did you ever considering refinishing? Hard Chrome, and some of the coatings, are relatively inexpensive, beats losing money on a trade IMHO. I actually am looking to have my Smith 1911 Hard Chromed, looks just like stainless, and very durable.
The only difference I know on the 80s series is that it does have an internal firing pin safety as opposed to the other series of 1911s.. I guess before when the safety was a new design people had problems with it but I guess it is fixed now.. It was mainly to stop the gun from going off if it were accidentally dropped or some shit... Nice new 1911 Pete !!
Pete, being an all factory Colt I would keep those grips. They are B E A utiful! I would keep it as original as possible just because it is a COLT. That's just my opinion. Awesome gun, I wish I could afford to invest in one but all of my handguns are carry/work guns that I put in that hands of students so I would rather have a few $600 M&Ps than a $1400+ gun that I have to leave at home. Keep it up! You rock!!!!
Hi Pete, I just did a double check on the 'O" model and it is a government size frame, it might also mean Officers but, it does not say that, it only says government size frame. I think it is a beautiful pistol bro.. My collection is always evolving. My Dad always said to me, never sell your guns or tools but, I am sorry, it is in my blood to sell or trade and always play a little with my collection.Great vid. Pete.
sweet ass colt. i checkt out mr.45bullets channel hes got some good vid. see friend shoutouts do work and do some good. i wish youd chance your camera angle back i like to see you do ur vids. people like the vids but i think most of us tune in to see pete.. for me U R theARMORYchannel
sweet pistol love the mix between oldest old and new btw do not use the cobra grips or any other grips that might mean your looking for trouble for home defense like an example a friend of mine had a 1911 with grim reaper grips someone broke into his house he pulled out his 1911 tried to fire a warning shot but apparently hit him in the head they confiscated his pistol looked at the grips and now he is doing time because of the dumb grips
@PaulHark9 wow thats ridiculos. what state did he live in? that is blatant disregard for self defense. a man should always be able to defend his house, no matter what gun he is using for it
I'm not a collector, but I have a couple guns in my safe that don't get used. I don't consider it a waste though... At least they are there in case the Zombies come!
being a serries 80 it should have a fireing pin block. i've owned many colts throughout the years and unless colt has changed you will find that the dots on your sights will fall out, but they are not needed. i also found that unless you get an extended beaver tail you will have alot of hammer bite! I would take a colt over a s&w any day. so you did alright in my opinion
I respect you for telling us your personall stuff.... takes a real man to share things like that. That is a NICE gun. Frickin' sweet! "you fuckin' bitch" haha!
I'd stop saying shit about him on youtube Pete he could use it against you in court saying you made threats against him and shit like that. Just update on the major stuff. Also, is that roughly the same size as the Kimber Pro models? I want a 1911 and I'm not sure about the Pro models and the the Ultra. I like the 1911 look but the Ultra seems incredibly small for my taste, and the full size 1911 is ugly in my opinion. The Pro seems like a good medium.
sounds like you made a good trade pete. I don't blame you for getting rid of a carry 1911 if the finish was rubbing off. Now you have a high quality carry pistol that you won't have to worry about putting in a holster. I really like the 80 series 1911s, those are my favorite colt 1911s. I think the Mod 0 might designate the mix of modern and vintage features.
Hey Pete! I got the same model Colt. The "O" model stands for "Officer's Model". This refers to the 4.25 barrel vs. the full-size at 5". Aren't the grips incredible? By the way, on my Colt, the front sight has come loose. Other than that, I love the gun.
Nice looking pistol alright. I'm trying to find a decent codition WW2 era 1911. Can't believe how hard they are to find here. There's plenty of crappy ones, but even the average condition ones all have mis matched barrels. Apparently the armourers just grabbed whatever barrel was to hand when they worked on 'em.
Dude, when you said that it was a gun that you would never get rid off I immediatly though you got rid of your SIG my heart almost skipped a beat lol. That smith and wesson was nice but I have to admit that COLT 80 is sweat man, very classy looking.
Hi Pete, I am very glad to see you talking guns again. The Armory rocks. The little bit of studying I did on colt, I think the "O" model is Colts mark for a government size frame. I can't tell you how happy I am to see you talking guns.
Dude, You need to go and read up on1911 history! Springfield has a 4 inch barrel which is a Mid size where the Colt Commander has a 4.25 Barrel. The Commander pistol didnt come out till after WW2 and what you are calling the Beavertail is called the GRIP SAFETY! Also the pistol is called a Commander Series 80 which has the firing pin safety block and most of the time you cannot get a good trigger pull out of them.
thats a nice colt i would have traded too i also just bought a new gun i got a remington 870 shotgun has a camo finish and ordered some vz alien desert sand grips for my kimber last night cant wait to see how my gun looks after installing them
Don't know if I told you this but a range instructor by me let me fire one round of his Kimber Ultra Carry II. I fired a 45+p round & I thought it was great. BUT to each his own.
i got a colt python from 1959.... 2 1/2 inch barrel... it's in my safe all the time... i take it out every month... once... maybe twice.... shoot it every 2 years. 6 shots - .357 mag. always on the same wooden target. now that's tradition for me on a gun that's very very rare and has such a high value. thx for this great video TAC :) love it! awesome work
Anytime you trade and get a Colt, you done the right thing. i never really liked the S&W 1911 anyway. go ahead and put those cobra grips on there and see what it looks like. not like itsa huge job, easy to switch right back to those double diamonds...

Wow Pete I thought the S&W would be the last one you would trade in. Awesome Colt though, it looks like a WWI 1911 and a Kimber Custom had sex and this was the result haha. I had a feeling you might pick this one up at some point, I remember you saying how much you liked this pistol.
You just can't beat anything from a pure breed. I picked up my first 1911 this weekend, so I'll be watching more of your vids to learn how to take care of it.
Ive been looking at getting a 1911 and am considering either a colt series 70 or springfieald milspec. What are the differences in quality (materials, shootability, ect.) Thanks.
@Kopis1911 I have a stainless SA Mil Spec and love it. Really for the price The SA Mil Spec is hard to beat. I looked at a Colt 70 series but in all honesty, outside of the Colt name, the Springfield, I thought, was a better pistol. Plus I think there are issues with after market Mags fitting into Colts. That's generally not the case with Springfields.
I was bouncing back and forth between the Colt series 80 and the SA Mil Spec. It came down to preferred finish and collectibility. I love the Colt's blues finish even though the rounded edges look to be parkerized. I think the Colt will hold its value better. i got a colt python from 1959....
