Nobody else could've played Santini as Duvall did. Top notch acting and a killer scene to boot. Thanks for posting it as I've not viewed it for several years.
In the book one of the guys eating the soup exclaims "Dammit Ace it ain't fair, you're gettin' all the big chunks!" which should have been included in the movie
One of the best parts of the movie, I laughed my butt off when i saw this for the first time. This from a NAVY man and all, my father was a NAVY man but not like this one. Pride in his job yes, pride in his family yes, but most of all LOVE for all of us. Don't let this movie stereo type anyone, some are better parents than others.
This was Dad, more or less. He was Air-Navy with that exact attitude. I was offered his name at the age of 12, which I declined. From that day on I was considered the bastard child I was. Didn't seem right to me. Who knows what a difference adoption would have made? My sons bear their true names, as do their children.
holy shit!! I have been looking for this scene for EVER!!! I remember seeing it on TV and thinking that it was brilliant!!! Unforgettable (to me, apparently). Thank the gods for youtube and wiki....
I remember renting this movie when it first release and almost had a stroke from laughing so hard at this. This was the ultimate prank. I almost lost it when they started eating up! R O F L!
