..the KarMaPhra?..but did he say 'Steal the Keys to Heaven 'Got Love!...The Front Page on The Cover of The Daily Planet!...some queendom and she does it!...
It's 2011 and I heard this song for the first time the other day in my truck, I turned it up loud and started to do the head bangin thing, I wanted more and wondered why radio stations didn't play it years ago and waited until now, even heard Mr Blue sky for the first time too recently, ELO know how to make my groove move.
I know probably a thousand bands have done the D A G progression and I know this song is really not much like it, but I can't help but think of the Velvet Underground's Sweet Jane when I hear this song.
I’ve just published a novel called The Mission of the Sacred heart, based on a classic ELO album, filled with secret messages for ELO fans. Available on Amazon!
@tachikoma747 I would recommend the entire "Time" album, not just "twilight"; but youu're spot on. Those who aren't accustomed to ELO's music will be blown away by the brilliance of Jeff Lynne and his band. Sadly, however, with Kelly Groucutt's passing their sound will never be duplicated, even by them, if that makes sense.I believe " Time" is the best ever concept album,
I was always curious about the name of this song and who sang it, because I heard it used as jingle for Monster.com and 40-Year old Virgin back in 2005
LOVE this song!! I'm overwhelmed by memories of the 70s. The song loses something in the weird bridge and ending but it doesn't matter, the rest of it is so much fun and busting loose with emotion and energy. ELO and my grade school and Jr High years, YES! Thanks for posting!
I HAVE "A NEW WORLD RECORD" (WHICH THIS SONG COMES OFF) IN RED VINYL (BOUGHT IT IN THE SUMMER OF 1979) AS WELL AS OTHER GREAT SONGS LIKE "ROCKARIA" "TELEPHONE LINE" JEFF LYNN IS A GREAT SONG WRITER (SOMEWHAT UNDERRATED)
@dbkparm Yeah, that's probably where Eddie Murphy got the idea to play a musician named "Clarence" on a SNL skit claiming to be the the fifth Beatle. He claimed John and Paul felt threatened by his abilities, and stole his music! LOL! Seriously, Jeff was quoted by John Lennon to have been talented enough to be a Beatle. Much of the Beatles' influences can be found in ELO music.
@rare12inchsingles The Sweet... You mean grouup which gave us a GREAT tune like, "Love is like Oxygen"? I believe they were fronted by another brilliant musician and songwriter, Upper Darby Pennsylvania's own... Todd Rundgren!!! @quarkwrok Yeah, sorry about that. I did further research and I was wrong. Todd Rundgren wasn't associated with The Sweet in any way I guess. Thanks for the suggestion on "Blockbuster", great song!! Btw.... think Jeff Lynne will ever bring ELO back, now that Kelly G. has passed away?
@scubarulz Would it ever be the same? It was different way back when. Was Kelly G the one who died in a freak accident? Something to do with a run away bail of hay? o_0
@quarkwrok No, Kelly Groucutt was ELO's bass player during their greatest days., died of a heart attack 2 years ago at 63 years young. He played bass for them from '71 to '83, and his operatic voice was used on many of their hits. The band member who was killed last year in a freak accident was Mike Edwards, a cello player who briefly played with ELO in early to mid '70s, most notably on the "Eldorado" album. His obit. states his van was indeed hit by a cylindrical hay bale weighing 1300 pounds.
@scubarulz Kelly was the bassist from '74 - '83. Mike DeAlbequerque was the bassist from '73 -'74. Richard Tandy started out in ELO as the bassist in '72 playing live, but was switched exclusively to keys/piano when ELO set out to record ELO II in '73.
@scubarulz .... similar thing happened on ohio turnpike last winter ..... an SUV spare tire fell off .... rolled across grassy median ... flew in air .... landed on hood of car going opposite way and crushed the driver ....... showed the SUV leaving turnpike but didn't have picture of license plate ..... it was an accident and he wouldn't have been cited ... but evidentally didn't want to get involved .... probably in denial!

@TackyRackyComixNEO Thanks, I'm trolling and you're, learning the lesson, that you are a lower form of intelligence. Having a 'comic book' intelligence doesn't make you a bad person! You are just very unintelligent, but not evil. Have you ever read a book? Comic books don't count. Have you ever performed on the TV show, "I'm Stupid, But I'm Not Constipated"
@suppppz It's an actual cowbell, sometimes held in the hand and played with a stick by whichever band member is reliable enough not to bring the cow along. In some bands, that's a pretty short list--sorta explains why some never use cowbell at all. Sometimes, the cowbell is mounted with the drum kit, which thankfully removes the guesswork from the equation. You hear it throughout this song--hit, like a woodblock, not rung. If you hear cowbell ringing, there's probably a cow attached. Run.
