At least they didn't do this on the street. It's obviously on a closed-off drag strip, so other than misuse of the station's vehicles, I really don't see the problem with it. Kind of funny, really.
I'm a TV news photographer. A stupid thing to do no doubt but wouldn't you know the photog would lose his job but not the "anchor". No surprise. -Scott
Should have tied their GM's and News Directors to their bumpers. Photogs and reporters do the work...most ND's and GM's only exist for their own egos.
These guys are morons because they posted it on YouTube. Gee, no one will ever see it here, right? They got fired because they were caught beating on very expensive company vehicles. If they want to drag race in their own cars, then fine...But not with a $150,000 + company truck. Also, think of the negative fallout if there was an accident.
you guys make this to be a big deal. it was not illegal drag racing. nothing wrong happend. lighten up. just a little fun. stop being so gay with this.
lol why are you so against this, kid. its just a drag race, no one got hurt something to entertain the croud. get out more. i would understand if it was illegal but it wasn't. i feel sorry for your kids.
hey atleast this became national news. people in the usa now know we excist for a change.nothing wrong happend. they just wanted to have a lil fun. wow i would hate to be your son.
I am glad you morons are not in my market!Who on earth thought this was a good idea? The public already hates us and you do this? Any station employee who was in attendance at this little outting ought to be fired. Don't send me your resumes.
*twitch* this makes me want to go steal our live van....and challenge the nearest station...sadly, our news director would not find that funny. at all.
Yeah, station managers are rarely blessed with a sense of humor. To me, it seems like this would have been the perfect clip for both stations' stories about taking your race to the track where you're in a safe and controlled environment rather than on the street where racing puts innocent lives at risk.
Besides, think of the promo value. Now we really do know who's "first on the scene" in El Paso...
Ah. The article I read on a Dallas station's site said the death occurred in a street race rather than at the track... (not the first time they've gotten the details wrong either)
Yeah that was why there was a big fuss. Otherwise i dont think there would have been such a problem. But to go to a track to cover a death at said track and then for them to handle themselves in such an unprofessional manner thats just not the time to do that. Place yeah but time no.
I rarely speed for the station anymore. I got my first and only speeding ticket (knock on wood) bringing back HS football footage from BFE. Did the station pay the ticket??? Heck no.
That was my first and only speeding ticket from working too! I was 30 mins away from our HS football show going on the air, and was easily more than 20 miles out from the station.
From S at TheOtherNews: In Houston several years ago there was a four alarm fire. They put the reporter with me in the live truck. On the way to the fire while I was weaving in and out of traffic with my foot to the floor the reporter says, "won't this thing go any faster?" I told her, yes, if you get out and push. She stayed in the van and kept her mouth shut. Sometimes I wish she would have gotten out and tried.
Breaking News!!! From our viewpoint this little ordeal was all in fun and the management back at the stations took it way too serious. This took place in a controled environment. When you have a newsroom yelling at you that the compitition already is on scene what do you do? Tell them you are observing the speed limit and refuse to go any faster? It doesn't work that way. For all of you that doesn't know, the assignments editor doesn't care about safety. Just get it on the air at any cost.
You will see these things go faster when they are on their way to a breaking news shoot. According to the SW Drags people, we didn't even break 60 at all. Nice choice of music though.
You will see us go even faster when we are on the freeway doing 60. According to the Southwest Drags people, we topped at 51. I did let off the accelerator once I saw how far ahead of KVIA we were.
If Fox News was in on this they would lose and lie about it. XD

Yeah but they were there in the first place because some one who was racing on this track died.

No dude, they died on the freeway not at the raceway. Freeway = Illegal. Raceway = Legal.
