thats back when boy toys had playsets, and toys where ment to be played with, and kids used there imagination. now there are no boy playsets, and all of the toys now of days are "collectable items" or "adult collector". those where the glory days when stuff was ment to be played with, you could get years out of your heman figure and you could drop them, throw them, sleep with them, and play with them in mudd. now everything is so fragile and will brake it you drop it
What happened to "Masters of the Universe on Tour"? Once the tour ended, the trailer (that had "Masters of the Universe On Tour" detailed on three sides) went back to Hawthorne, CA. The display was stored in a warehouse for the possibility of using it at an Amusement Park. The posters that remained were stored there as well. The unit was in full working condition and ready for another tour. I was to be in charge of the tour in '87, but the timing didn't work out. And, yes that's me with Hordak.
To: dtowells- After the last performances in Nov. '86, the entire show was crated up and shipped to a Mattel warehouse. The display was suppose to go to an amusement park in 1987, but alas the MOTU popularity diminished and the idea was scrapped. If the display is still around, it would take a lot to get it back to 100%. I worked on the show from set-up to when when it was back in the trailer at each mall for 30 weeks. The 5 minute show was performed up to 150 times per day. A great experience.
Thank you for posting this great nostalgic footage. I can't imagine any of the toy companies doing something like this now. I'm sure they would also bug out about people recording it too. I would say its awesome they let your dad record it, but I guess it wasn't such a big deal 24 years ago.
That was amazing! It reminds me of a the Storybook Boat Ride from Disneyland, with all the miniature kingdoms and castles, only, you know, of course, with HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE!!!
That was amazing! It reminds me of a the Storybook Boat Ride from Disneyland, with all the miniature kingdoms and castles, only, you know, of course, with HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE!!!
OMG lol!!! I was a He-man fanatic when I was a kid. We had to go see He-man and She-ra on ice when I was 7 and then we went a year later to see Ninja Turtles on ice. I'm all nostalgic now =)
The Heman display was 21' wide by 12' deep by 12' high. It took ten people to set it up and close to six hours to make it "star ready" for each mall. The tour lasted 29 weeks and started in West Mifflin, PA, then to FL,NJ,IL, OH, IN,MO,WA,NV,CA & many other states. I gave out thousands of posters and iron decals. It was the one of the first times the use of video disks were featured. The presentation was seen by hundreds of thousands of kids of all ages. Signed, the sole Tour Manager - 1986
Great video... Dont think we got such a grand display down in Australia. But this was classic MOTU marketing at its best. Even the host sounded like a TV annoucer. Note mum mentioning to the kids.. 'did you see all the new ones' lol
I saw this at Parmatown Mall in Ohio. You'll notice the kids at the end holding posters, those were full size painted pictures of all the figures and playsets in battle! I hung that on my wall for like 7 years till it ripped!
Thank you for uploading this! i love when video like this surfaces! What a great little demo this was! I wish I saw somethign like this in person when I was a kid.

This must be the coolest thing I've ever seen! If they still did stuff like this to promote their toys maybe kids would still be playing with them

When I was a kid, I thought He-man was a load of manopos; everyone knew that Optimus Prime and Superman were ten times the heroes that He-jerk was.
TheSolitaryPoet 8 months ago
@TheSolitaryPoet That's why Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) was doing MOTU toy commercials back then for Mattel®. He-Man > Optimus.

I think if I'd been a kid and seen that back then I'd have hid until the mall was closed and pretty much just hung out at that display all night.
