pernell whitaker is my FAVOURITE boxer of all time. this is who i train to fight like- WATCH MY BOXING FIGHT ON MY CHANNEL. i was suppose to be entering the Olympics this year but a couple tragedies happened
Landing alot of punches is useless if they dont do anything, reason why Chavez won. Like having a kid land a bunch of punches on an adult; adult only needs solid hits.
I like julio, a chin made of iron, heart of a lion, and punches like a mull. But I do think he was a little overrated.A skilled boxer with good foot work and speed could take him to school. Like taylor did..I believe for 1 punch from julio = 3 from taylor but he couldnt last ..took way too much damage. Julio reminds me of the old boxers from the 1900-1920's esp the white boxers come in and brawl. His skill wasn't impressive..it was his chin/heart. Id say he was one of the toughest to ever live.
Pernell gave Julio a boxing clinic and was robbed, never forget smashing my remote against my wall, back in the day when you only had 1 remote for your tv and that was it. I've always cursed Julio for making me get up and change the channel manually for years.
PERNELL SLIPERY WITHAKER style was a trycker one like a liar magician sort of speak...and was good at it!! He did good in put it gameplan on CHAVEZ.....but he did not win this fight He just simply wasn t a full caliber figther at least not in my books!!..
most fighters end up taking beatings towards the end of their career. that never happened to chavez in 80plus fights. he was outboxed by de la hoya but didnt take beating
Pernell Whitaker is one of the most underrated fighters in history. I grew up watching him and what many people don't know is that he had underrated power, especially to the body, he had wicked right hooks(as he was a southpaw) to the body. Sorry Pacquiao fans, Sweet Pea would have made him look silly. Too good defensively and offensively....frustration all night for the Pacman.
Funny, Wladimir Klitschko holds and doesn't engage fighters, uses a basic 1-2, and he is chastised a called boring fighter with no skill. Although WK has knocked out fighters with left hooks that travel 6" to 8". That is skill. Anyway Whitaker ties up and runs backwards the whole fight and it called brilliance. What a double fucking standard.
@sinusbradycardia Are you comparing a guy that has been knocked out by Lamon Brewster,Corrie Sanders and Ross Puritty, dropped by Sam Peter and DaVarryl Williamson with Whittaker?
@teedzy1 Not really. Good call on my BS. My favorite performance of Whitaker's was his title effort against Rafeal Pineda. Pineda if nothing was a dangerous fighter, he was bigger, stronger and hit harder than probably any of Whitaker's previous opponents. Whitaker took the fight to Pineda and didn't run, but used his great defense and countering punching and staying in range and Pineda couldn't hit him and dropped Pineda with a great body shot. I thought Whitaker won against ODH as well.
@sinusbradycardia It's cool,I just get very defensive about Whittaker,I still dont think he gets his just due.Just absolutely one of my all time favorites.
@teedzy1 Don't get me wrong, I like both Klitschko's. Wladimir has turned into a such a safety 1st fighter. I'd rather see him fight fights like the 1st fight with Brewster. That was a one sided beat down for the 1st 4 rounds. He fights in a style now, not to get ko'ed and does not unleash his punches as freely as he used too = boring fights. Some guy keeps calling me all kinds of names because he sincerely believes WK was poisoned against Brewster in their 1st fight? He got KTFO by Brewster.
@sinusbradycardia I have no beef with Wladimir Klitschko, you would not expect a pitcher to lob under hand to a batter and I dont expect him to give up his attributes to be more crowd pleasing, the problem over all is a very boring heavyweight division.
This fight should have been in 90 or 91 at latest. Chavez was faded somewhat by this time. He certainly was the same fighter that was in the ring in say in 87.
To continue.. If this fight happened even a year prior.. Chavez would made this fight look like the taylor fight. Every fighters career comes to an end at some point these are human beings not fictional characters. He almost was like superman for 12 years fighting 8 times a year and having wars at some point you cant do it anymore. He became an addict too and just stopped training seriously after the Camacho fight. Bottom line is Jcc is a legend and some of his fights just happened at wrong time
LOL at all the idiots saying that Chavez won. Look at the fucking compubox punch-stats, Whittaker landed double the punches Chavez did, and was even more active than Chavez was. Chavez wasn't doing shit, and any legitimate boxing fan knows that Pernell was robbed of one of his best performances in this fight.
@JMDinamitaMarquez To beat a great like chavez you must dominate. Pee never dominated to me just poked away while taking licks. I personally think the draw was the best decision because if it were a "fight" no one would walk away the winner in my opinion.
Chavez lost this fight.. Im Mexican and love watching Chavez,, but I saw this fight as a sing that it was time for Chavez to retire.. He had nothing to prove any more to the world..So ,far he has set the!!! BAR!!! for all the future boxers..
....he was fighting street chumps every other week throughout the 1980s, that is how Chavez got his boxing record so high. Out of his 117 fights only a handful were good fighters which he lost to 4 (whitaker, taylor(both robbed), De la Hoya and Randall
@WeAreAll0ne1 Chavez was still prime nice fucking joke. He had 90 pro fights and most of them where against bums, since he did not have a lot of amateur experience.
I am not a pro boxer? lol fail... Im talking about how you say he had 90 fights and had a lot of abuse. The truth is Chavez was prime and got his ass beat. All those other fights where not hard fights. Learn your shit
@braueryo Youre a fucking idiot first off. You obviously dont know a fucking thing about boxing. I think you need to learn your shit before discrediting anyone else. Its 90 fights. Again 90 fights and chavez was a fighter not a boxer like Whitaker. He fought in the trenches for years. He took shots from Rosario, Mayweather in both fights, Taylor the list goes on i dont have enough characters. Chavez was a shadow of himself in this fight bc of wear and tear and substance abuse. Would destroy pee.
@bmillerdrums 90 fights and most of them where against bums. He was in the later part of his prime. Stop making up excuses. You know it. This was even after the 2nd Taylor fight. Taylor is no Whitaker lol. JCC is a legend and an ATG. Does not change the fact that Whitaker kicked his ass.
@braueryo Ill be the first to admit he didnt win this fight thats fact. Whitaker was the better more conditioned fighter this night. Kicked his ass? C mon seriously... He out boxed him and won on points. As for the comment about bums every fighter in boxing fights journeymen and fighters that are not great or champions its the nature of the sport. You cant deny that he fought the best of the best in that era.. FYI. Taylor was an amazing fighter same camp as Pee and Chavez took his body and soul
@braueryo Taylor was just as good if not better than Whitaker pre chavez. He was faster and actually liked to fight on the inside and mix it up. Whitaker was more of a defensive fighter who was intelligent. He fought alot of the same people that JCC fought and most of the time went to a decision. He also fought alot of "bum" as well he just didnt fight as much as Chavez cause he stayed active he was a real fighter. Bottom line they were both sweet at what they did and its childish to argue.Cool
by age 23 Chavez was already 55-0-0, there was a point in Chavez early carreer were he was averaging 2-3 fights a MONTH........this is proof that Chavez 117+ boxing record was completely INFLATED. His first 60 fights consisted of no name chumps from Sinaloa and neighboring state Sonora
Pernell got robbed, but my respect to Chavez for a great career. Slick black fighters never get enough respect and the proof is that Chavez is considered to have a better career than the guy who soundly beat him, a guy with legendary defensive skills who only got humiliated once in the ring, and that was his last fight.
@jobz199 Other than taylor anyone with speed beat him up. Frankie Randall, included. Mexicants supported him because their indigenous genetic structures makes them poor athletically, so there aren't too many guys to support. JCC was average, that's it.
@RatatRatR Just read at what that idiot is saying. He claims people who dominate are all black in skin color. If he actually takes his head out of his ass, he will realize that All races NO MATTER WHAT SKIN COLOR can dominate. This is not about race. Im actually making the point that every race has great athletes and WE ARE ALL AFRICAN. This fucking clown is using a dark Brazilian to say he is "Black" Hispanic and that's why he is good hahaha. You can't blame me for replying to that idiot!
Chavez could have done better had he fought more like marciano did against archie moore, just walk in and beat him to death. Chavez was tough as fuck so i can't figure out why he was trying to box with whitaker, not box in the traditional sense but he was tentative, moving in and out at times when he should have gritted his teeth and attacked . Yes use your skills, get inside, jab etc, but also if thats not going well, just cover up, walk through him take the punches and land your own.
Manny Pacquiao kills Chavez any day of the week get real! 85-0 what more do you need to know? Manny has 3 lost matches a prime Marquez beat him twice! I will inform all of you why it was a draw againts Pernell not a win not enough points were taken away thats why it was a draw. Chavez indeed was robbed I would hate to even think what Roger would do to Manny. I may sounjd like a hater but be real is more like it!
@cpaignforeva2010, I'm not denying that Mayweather is a fantastic technical boxer, because he is. I was simply showing Dazza that great technical boxers have existed in all eras, and that IN GENERAL they are no more common now than they were in Chavez's day, or Ray Robinson's day for that matter. Mayweather-Chavez would be a very interesting fight indeed, and my gut feeling is that Mayweather outpoints him. But styles make fights - I think Chavez would stop Pacquiao in the mid to late rounds.
@DoomCity202 If you actually believe Chavez had good movement in this fight, you should watch him when he was actually at his best homie. Pernell was a great boxer and probably won this fight but this Chavez was not the All-time great Chavez. Believe me.
@hyenachase I totally agree with you. Chavez, in all his career, fought mediocre or just good fighters, never super fighters except for Hoya. He should not be ranked 23rd in the rankings of 50 greatest fighters of all time. Given that he was bitterly beaten by Hoya twice, and almost all his opponents were never super fighters, he should be ranked 40-50th on the rankings. Duran, at 37 beat Barkley, who became the light heavyweight champion of the world. Duran is way better than Chavez!
@sohnghk If you think Chavez fought "mediocre fighters" You are a fool. What are you doing in this thread honestly haha? Whats even more funny is that you really do believe it haha. Dude, when you say stuff like that, It makes you look bad as a boxing analyst. You obviously never lived in that era or you just don't know about boxing. Most likely you are the "NEW SCHOOL" cat that started watching boxing yesterday. You don't know how wrong you are man.
@pkbosslac I have watched boxing since 1980. Chavez fought Mexican "mediocre" fighters or just good fighters like Taylor, Frankie Randall. What I tried to say was that Chavez never fought such ultra super fighters as Duran, Leonard, Aaron Pryor, Wilfredo Benitez, Tommy Hearns, etc. These fighters in prime would have beaten prime Chavez, You should not say "dude" randomly on official Utube site. You'd better be nicer to netizens when you say something. Floyd Mayweather is better than Chavez..
@sohnghk Please! Since 1980? You must be blind then. You knowledge of boxing is poor. Do you even realize that most of the "ULTRA" guys you named are true WELTERWEIGHTS???? Chavez was a TRUE lightweight. You can't even distinguish fighters by their divisions haha. Taylor was a GREAT fighter. Many people actually believe Chavez would beat Duran. Leonard, Hearns, Benitez are you kidding me?? Even Leonard was asked once of he would fight Chavez and said Chavez was too small. You are a fool!
@pkbosslac sorry to say that you should not use the word "dude". It's not humiliating at all. I looked up the dictionary. As I am not American or British, I didn't know its real meaning. Anyway, do you think Chavez is as great as Duran, Leonard, Aaron Pryor, Wilfredo Benitez, Thomas Hearns, Felix Trinidad, Floyd Mayweather Jr? I think these fighters are better than Chavez. Chavez at age 35 was beaten by DLH. Duran at 37 beat Iran Barkeley who became the world light heavyweight champion later.
@sohnghk I don't know what's wrong with the word dude? It's not an insult. Im sorry if it seems that I have insulted you. Here we sometimes speak aggressively but don't worry, I'm not insulting you. I apologize. As for your question, Chavez being better depends on many things. Many of the fighters you claim to be only good, I consider to be more on the lines of great. Maybe not the BEST but great. Chavez fought the best of his time. It's hard to compared Chavez to Duran. If you compare their
@sohnghk if we compare their record I would say Duran was better but If they BOTH FOUGHT, I think Chavez could beat him. Many people underestimate Chavez because of stupid controversial fights that had nothing to do with him and forget what a great boxer he was. BENITEZ, HEARNS, HAGLER, LEONARD were all much bigger than Chavez. It's hard to compare them. Pryor was good but had a reputation for being a cheater. Still Chavez at the light weights could beat anyone. Mayweather Jr? Are you serious?
@pkbosslac DLH also started his career as a junior lightweight, just like Chavez. Hoya conquered 6 divisions, while Chavez got champion titles in 3 divisions. What are U gonna say about this? Chavez better than DLH?
@sohnghk When I tell you that Chavez was not a true Welter, is not WHERE YOU START or WHERE YOU END. I talk about your size and how well you hold that weight in certain divisions. De La Hoya started as a lightweight But he is not a lightweight haha. The guy is almost 6feet tall. He is taller and naturally weighs more. His body is build for Welter weights. When Chavez started he was a very small man. Much shorter. That's why De La Hoya was able to move up easier. He carried the weight well.
@sohnghk That's why many people are very surprised about Pacquiao. Because the guy has fought at middleweight but he is SMALL!!!!! He is very small. His body is build to be a lightweight and he even started at lower weight divisions. But the guy continues to move up and not lose speed. He His power is also potent at the higher levels. But also this era is different than the past. Now you can pick and choose opponents. Back then, you had to fight the BEST!
@pkbosslac I think you are really a boxing expert, very knowledgeable about every aspect of boxing. The Sanchez-Gomez fight makes me consider Sanchez a perfect boxer with all that speed, rhythmic movements, and superb combinations of straights and upper cuts. It's true Chavez-DLH fights disappointed me in regards to Chavez performance. Some say Chavez overrated, some say not. Some say we should think about ring age when we talk about Chavez DLH fights.
@sohnghk Thanks for the compliment brother but Im far from an expert. I just like to analyze things and appreciate the small things. Many people ignore and have biased opinions. Sanchez was an all-time great. Too bad he died young. He was a complete boxer. As far as Chavez, If you follow his WHOLE career, you will realize that he started going down hill around the age of 30. Remember that Chavez by that time had around 80 fights. That will ruin any man phisically and mentally.
@pkbosslac I think you are mostly right. I'm gonna view more Chavez fights to get a real hang of him. My friend John says the same thing you do - Chavez had it all. Boxing historians are harldy biased. They rank Chavez 24th on the ranking hierachy for the 50 greatest boxers of all time. I think they did that out of deep considerations of all the things for the boxers. Chavez is ranked higher than Hearns and Hagler on ESPN boxer ranking. Thanx for your comments. Keep doing the good job here.
@sohnghk Look at Chavez fights when he was younger. Watch Both fights vs Mayweather. Watch the fight vs Edwin Rosario. Vs LA Porte, Vs Taylor. Many people believe Taylor was wining by a landslide but that's completetly false. Watch every Round closely and you will see how many times Chavez made Taylor miss, blocked them with his arms and gloves. For all the punches that Taylor threw, Chavez used great movement to make Taylor miss. WATCH it closely. Chavez as a lightweight was a machine.
@pkbosslac Considering their capabilities as great boxers, I think Duran could beat Chavez! Duran is simply one of the best, ranked 5th on the ESPN ranking hierarchy. Several people think Pacquiao could beat Chavez, in line with the fact that Chavez had a very hard time with Meldrick Taylor, and Pacquiao is simply a better version of Taylor with all that speed and his unique unorthodox boxing style. My favorites are Ali, Leonard, and Duran. These are among the top ten boxers of all time.
@sohnghk Duran could beat anyone as well. The problem is that it's hard to compare or predict who would win in different eras. Every fight is different. Pacquiao is also great but Chavez and Duran could beat him also. Chavez had a IRON CHIN. One of the greatest body punchers in the hitory. Morales and Marquez IMO beat Pacquiao. Why not Chavez and Duran?
@pkbosslac I mean, Pacquiao is a better version of Whitaker and Taylor. Like you said, this era has much fewer excellent boxers than the past. We cannot randomly say this guy could beat that guy in the past. A boxing fan says Chavez would have most likely encountered something he has never experienced if he had fought Pacquiao. I sort of agree. Pacquiao is a genius in some sense.
@sohnghk Pernell was a completely different fighter than Paquiao. He was more of a defensive, counter puncher. I can't say that's a better version, its a different style. Taylor gave Chavez problems because he was also a great fighter but Chavez also sent him to the hospital. The fight was close all the way. Taylor was more technical than Pacquiao. Pacman has an awkward style that throws people off, with speed and power. I doubt he would want to fight Chavez toe to toe. He would lose.
@sohnghk You are claiming Chavez never fought "Ultra" fighters, WHO THE HELL DID MAYWEATHER FIGHT? haha. Are you being blinded by his great skill? Yes Mayweather is one of the greats but to compare his era to the past is a joke. Boxing was much tougher back in the day. Chavez could also beat Mayweather. You ever heard of Salvador Sanchez? That guy would beat Arguello, Pryor, as well but died very young. trinidad? C'mon bro! That guy is not even at that level. You have to be kidding me.
@pkbosslac OK. I understand your point which is relevant! It's true that many boxing fans consider Chavez overrated. Enter "Is Chavez overrated?" on Google, and you'll find that a lot of them think Chavez overrated. I honestly say that Chavez did not show much in his two DLH fights. Those fights downgraded Chavez a lot. Anyway, it's true I should not compare Chavez to Benitez, Hearns, Leonard, etc, who were in heavier divisions. I admit Chavez is great. Do you think Chavez greater than Sanchez?
@sohnghk I think that the majority of boxing "FANS" are not knowledgeable of the sport. So even though they watch boxing, they are ignorant. They assume they know the sport. Anyone that says Chavez fought BUMS is a total fool. Chavez fought many great fighters and Chavez himself was a beast especially in the light weight divisions. The thing is that people remember stupid fights at WELTER vs Pernell and after because he started losing. Chavez at that point was not at his All-time best.
@sohnghk It's hard to say If Chavez was better than salvador Sanchez because Sanchez died very young. Many experts believe that if he had not died, he would have gone as the GREATEST lightweight in the history of boxing. Too bad he died in a car crash. If Chavez fought Sanchez it would have been a great fight. As for De La Hoya, When Chavez fought him, Chavez was WAAAAAAAAAAY past his prime. I mean Chavez was a bum. I thought you knew this. Chavez was old and an alcoholic. Chavez career started
@sohnghk going downhill after the Taylor fight. He was still able to manage and win fights but GRADUALLY he was decreasing and also losing dedication. He started to fall for Alcoholism and Cocaine. Remember Chavez had almost 100 fights! Think about De La Hoya or Pernell, who don't even have HALF haha. Chavez had a lot of tear and wear. he fought many WARS. Nobody had Chavez record in the modern era. I also like De La Hoya but he fought an old Chavez big time.
The thing is that, in all his career, Chavez fought mediocre fighters, or just good fighters, not super fighters except for Hoya. If prime Pacman had fought Chavez, Pacman would have TKOed Chavez without much difficulty. Chavez never successfully chased Whitaker. In line with this, Pacman is faster and a better boxer than Whitaker. Mexican fans should see the things clearly - Chavez is an excellent fighter, but never equals Leonard, Duran, Hearns, or Hagler.
@sohnghk TKO'd CHAVEZ? hahahaha..that's hysterical. he would have certainly been faster..but Chavez had one of the best chins EVER in boxing. And he fought mediocre fighters? Taylor, Whitaker, Rosario, Cortes, ROGER Maywheather, all champions.. He was never the best boxer, but his stamina, relentlesness, and commitment to the body destroyed boxers..by the time he started losing and getting knocked down, he had been in 80 + fights already. Maybe ur younger than me..I remember his prime.
@Nozzy819 Taylor, Whitaker, Rosario, Cortes, Roger Mayweather were very good fighters. What I meant by mediocre fighters was those 2nd or 3rd class fighters Chavez beat in Mexico or the US. Prime Chavez never fought such ultra super fighters like Duran (light), Aaron Pryor (light welter), Benitez, Hearns, Leonard, Trinidad(welter). These ultra super fighters would have beaten prime Chavez. My perspective is that Chavez is somewhat overrated.
@sohnghk, to say that Chavez fought 'mediocre' fighters is absolutely ridiculous. There was nothing mediocre at all about Rosario, Taylor, La Porte, Camacho, Ramirez or Mayweather, and Chavez was clearly on the slide when he fought De la Hoya. There is absolutely no way Pacquiao stops Chavez, either. Chavez is all-time top 3 at both Super-Featherweight and Light-Welterweight, and in between did a WBA/WBC Lightweight double. I'd have him behind Leonard & Duran, but well ahead of Hearns & Hagler.
@iljn1988 Rosario, Taylor, La Porte, Camacho, Ramirez or Mayweather were never mediocre fighters, but very good fighters. When I said 'mediocre fighters', I meant those 2nd or 3rd class fighters Chavez beat mainly in Mexico or the US. Consider the Randall fight. Chavez got knocked down once and beaten by Frankie Randall, who was never a super fighter. Duran in light weight, Aaron Pryor in light welter weight, Hearns, Leonard, Trinidad in welter weight would have beaten prime Chavez!
@sohnghk You have a lot to learn about Chavez. You have a lot to learn about boxing period. Unfortunately watching videos is not the same as living that time.
@iljn1988 Chavez was #3 in the Light Welterweight. The best was Aaron Pryor, next was Wilfredo Benitez, and the third was Chavez. Chavez didn't fight such ultra super fighters as Duran, Aaron Pryor, Benitez, Hearns, Leonard, Trinidad, or Floyd Mayweather Jr. Chavez was beaten by Frankie Randall, who was just a very good fighter, but never a super one. I think Chavez was lucky and he is somewhat overrated!
@sohnghk, I'd have Chavez number two at 140 lb behind Ross, but just ahead of Pryor and Canzoneri. Likewise at 130 lb, he's behind Arguello but ahead of Mayweather Jr and Nelson. Benitez? Didn't do enough at Light-Welterweight to be considered. Yes, he was beaten by Randall - but Robinson lost to Turpin. Ali lost to Norton. Duran lost to Laing. These kind of upsets happen. In general, Chavez was a model of consistency. Just about a top 20 fighter of all time, for me. Behind Whitaker, though.
@iljn1988 Thanx for the good comment. I am going to view Chavez fights more so that I could get a real hang of him. However, I'd have Chavez ahead of Arguello but behind Mayweather Jr.
@iljn1988 pacquiao kills chavez any day.. too slow. good chin good power. but not enough speed to compete with pacquiao. all of these speculations are based on our personal biases of course. no one can really compare current greats with fighters of old. but what strikes me is most of the so called boxing experts would tend to favor old school fighters over current fighters. do fighters today have inferior technique? are they less athletic?? i dont get it at all.
@jobz199, Pacquiao can't counter-punch to save his life, and it's counter punchers who gave Chavez trouble (Taylor, Whitaker, Randall). Pacquia walking in to Chavez's attack would be a disaster for him. Above 130 lb, Pacquiao's opponents haven't exactly been stellar. He's good enough to beat the 'good' fighters at the higher weights, but never a great one like Chavez . Fighters today don't have inferior technique, but the talent pool is definitely more shallow than ever before.
@iljn1988 that's one way to look at it. but it's also apparent that pacquiao loves to fight aggressive fighters. pacquiao wins just by sheer volume of punches thrown. he also throws faster punches and packs more power (proven by damaging his opponents in the higher weight classes). who do you think would win if they keep trading?
@iljn1988 bullshit the elite fighters today would smash the the fighters of the old days, mayweather would have anihalated chavez, he couldnt box to save his life, mayweathers speed and his clean punching ability is so inferior to chavez, i think you could put him up against any welterweight in any era
@dazza2610, when was the last time Mayweather 'annihilated' anyone? The elite fighters today? Maybe you're stupid enough to think that Pacquiao, Martinez and Ward etc are better technicians than Whitaker, Toney and Nunn, but you'd be the only one who does. Mayweather's great, but he's no great Welterweight. Seriously, you need to stop embarrassing youself with these kind of comments. In terms of achievements, both Chavez and Whitaker leave Mayweather eating their dust.
@iljn1988 who mentioned all those names haha i didnt say hed beat whittaker i said chavez? you might like to think chavez is some great boxer but he was a slugger he was outboxed for 12 rounds by meldrick taylor a clean punching boxer as mayweather is, mayweather is much faster whittaker and quicker on his feet, chavez would have been ANIHALATED, and if ur asking me when was the last time mayweather anihalated anyone when was the last time chavez did...
@iljn1988 his first 44 wins in mexico up until the time he fought mayweather are against unheard of opponents if you dont believe me look it up? you cant look a single one up on wikipedia they were all bums from mexico with mediocre records, it was even a running joke in the run up to the taylor fight that chavez had gotten his big record from fighting bums haha he gets dominated by fast fighters and i think mayweather would punish him
@iljn1988 his first 44 fights that he won up until the time he first fought mayweather if you try and look up any of the fighters before that on wikipedia you cant?, they are all mediocre fighters from mexico, it was even a running joke in the taylor fight that he had beaten a bunch of mexican gas pump attendants haha
@dazza2610, the fact that you use wikipedia as some sort of guidance point - or a point of any reference at all - says it all to me; you're a casual (and clueless) fan. Chavez's wins over the fighters I mentioned more than justify his place as an all time great. What he did by fighting unknowns AS WELL AS world class opponents to keep busy is no different than Robinson, Pep, Duran, Saddler, Greb etc - so why single out Chavez? Whitaker was greater, but Chavez was a legend in his own right.
@iljn1988 beating people like refugio rojas justifies you an all time great ? he had a record of 27-12 when he fought chavez thats hardly a worthy opponent and arreola had a record of 34-17, hardly worth bragging about to be honest, they were journeymen fighters, the rest i admit are good fighters but mayweather is great too, i think he would beat chavez, i dont think pacquaio would though, your the one who launched into a tirade and mentioning people like ward and froch haha
@dazza2610 Before the Taylor fight, Chavez had already fought Juan LaPorte, Edwin Rosario, Rocky Lockridge, Roger Mayweather, Jose Luis Ramirez, Bazooka Limon, Refugio Rojas, Ruben Castillo, and Adriano Arreola. All these men were quality fighters. Trust me, when he fought Taylor, Chavez's record was no joke.
@iljn1988 Why do you keep using fights where Chavez obviously past his best. When were you born? 88? You obviously missed the best of Chavez. Taylor Chavez was still great but after that he started going downhill at a fast pace. The Whitaker and Randall fights were a joke. Chavez was not at his All-time best. Anyone that followed Chavez career knows this. This is a FACT! If you don't believe me, watch the old school Chavez fights. As for Taylor, ASK Taylor if Chavez gave him trouble haha.
pacquiao's combination will easily land and mess chavez face.. whitaker will look for help against pacquiao he will just be in a very defnsive mode and will not take a risk just like fuckin mosley.. no onein their prime who cant beat pacman.. how come you can beat a fighter who throws too many punches and hardly get tired.. peolple are just jealous cant accept the truth.. chavez fought taxi drivers in mexican..
@bagtitish pac v sweet pea would be khan v zab pt 2..as for chavez i also think pac destrys him cos of the consistency and firepower! chavez is a great warrior tho!
@Ronz93 damn right.. same with mayweather there will be nothing special in that fight. floyd will just be back pedaling and doesnt want to take risk... pacs aggression is to much for any fighter.
pacquiao's combination will easily land and mess chavez face.. whitaker will look for against pacquiao he will just be in a very defnsive mode and will not take a risk just like fuckin mosley.. no onein their prime who cant beat pacman.. how come you can beat a fighter who throws too many punches and hardly get tired.. peolple are just jealous cant accet the truth..
Pernell beat JCC and so did Meldrick Taylor. They were both robbed of victories. Any slick boxer or counter puncher would give JCC trouble. Ray Leonard would for sure, Ray Robinson would definitely beat him to a decision if not knock him out cold
peoople that say chavez fought taxi drivers in mexico are fuckin dumb. dats what macho camacho said and he got his ass would. chavez beat everyone dat boxing had to offer when he was in his prime. was meldrick taylor a taxi driver? people just like talkin shit. truth is chavez is one of the greatest boxers of all time chavez in his prime would knock anyone out! end of story.
@parkourpower Man you sound like someone that lacks athleticism to avoid punches...dont hate b/c we dominate sports with athleticism and skills that unfortunately not all people possess....scared really????? cmon man if Mike Tyson had more defense maybe that would have helped to keep him from getting an ass whooping against evander, buster and lennox....the name of the game is hit and dont get hit. SMH
@usc55 hey man im sorry my uncle Dav got on and he was showing me all these boxing videos and he started commenting and so im guessing he put that cuz i didn't haha

Jrv784 3 weeks ago
Landing alot of punches is useless if they dont do anything, reason why Chavez won. Like having a kid land a bunch of punches on an adult; adult only needs solid hits.
mastersoak 3 weeks ago
I like julio, a chin made of iron, heart of a lion, and punches like a mull. But I do think he was a little overrated.A skilled boxer with good foot work and speed could take him to school. Like taylor did..I believe for 1 punch from julio = 3 from taylor but he couldnt last ..took way too much damage. Julio reminds me of the old boxers from the 1900-1920's esp the white boxers come in and brawl. His skill wasn't impressive..it was his chin/heart. Id say he was one of the toughest to ever live.

What a double fucking standard.
sinusbradycardia 2 months ago
@sinusbradycardia Are you comparing a guy that has been knocked out by Lamon Brewster,Corrie Sanders and Ross Puritty, dropped by Sam Peter and DaVarryl Williamson with Whittaker?
teedzy1 2 months ago
@teedzy1 Not really. Good call on my BS. My favorite performance of Whitaker's was his title effort against Rafeal Pineda. Pineda if nothing was a dangerous fighter, he was bigger, stronger and hit harder than probably any of Whitaker's previous opponents. Whitaker took the fight to Pineda and didn't run, but used his great defense and countering punching and staying in range and Pineda couldn't hit him and dropped Pineda with a great body shot. I thought Whitaker won against ODH as well.

sinusbradycardia 2 months ago
@teedzy1 Don't get me wrong, I like both Klitschko's. Wladimir has turned into a such a safety 1st fighter. I'd rather see him fight fights like the 1st fight with Brewster. That was a one sided beat down for the 1st 4 rounds. He fights in a style now, not to get ko'ed and does not unleash his punches as freely as he used too = boring fights. Some guy keeps calling me all kinds of names because he sincerely believes WK was poisoned against Brewster in their 1st fight? He got KTFO by Brewster.
sinusbradycardia 2 months ago
@sinusbradycardia I have no beef with Wladimir Klitschko, you would not expect a pitcher to lob under hand to a batter and I dont expect him to give up his attributes to be more crowd pleasing, the problem over all is a very boring heavyweight division.

This fight should have been in 90 or 91 at latest. Chavez was faded somewhat by this time. He certainly was the same fighter that was in the ring in say in 87.
sinusbradycardia 2 months ago
To continue.. If this fight happened even a year prior.. Chavez would made this fight look like the taylor fight. Every fighters career comes to an end at some point these are human beings not fictional characters. He almost was like superman for 12 years fighting 8 times a year and having wars at some point you cant do it anymore. He became an addict too and just stopped training seriously after the Camacho fight. Bottom line is Jcc is a legend and some of his fights just happened at wrong time

braueryo 3 months ago
@braueryo Youre a fucking idiot first off. You obviously dont know a fucking thing about boxing. I think you need to learn your shit before discrediting anyone else. Its 90 fights. Again 90 fights and chavez was a fighter not a boxer like Whitaker. He fought in the trenches for years. He took shots from Rosario, Mayweather in both fights, Taylor the list goes on i dont have enough characters. Chavez was a shadow of himself in this fight bc of wear and tear and substance abuse. Would destroy pee.
bmillerdrums 2 months ago
@bmillerdrums 90 fights and most of them where against bums. He was in the later part of his prime. Stop making up excuses. You know it. This was even after the 2nd Taylor fight. Taylor is no Whitaker lol. JCC is a legend and an ATG. Does not change the fact that Whitaker kicked his ass.
braueryo 2 months ago
@braueryo Ill be the first to admit he didnt win this fight thats fact. Whitaker was the better more conditioned fighter this night. Kicked his ass? C mon seriously... He out boxed him and won on points. As for the comment about bums every fighter in boxing fights journeymen and fighters that are not great or champions its the nature of the sport. You cant deny that he fought the best of the best in that era.. FYI. Taylor was an amazing fighter same camp as Pee and Chavez took his body and soul
bmillerdrums 2 months ago
@braueryo Taylor was just as good if not better than Whitaker pre chavez. He was faster and actually liked to fight on the inside and mix it up. Whitaker was more of a defensive fighter who was intelligent. He fought alot of the same people that JCC fought and most of the time went to a decision. He also fought alot of "bum" as well he just didnt fight as much as Chavez cause he stayed active he was a real fighter. Bottom line they were both sweet at what they did and its childish to argue.Cool

Comparing any of these new Welterweights with those from this era
is pointless. Boxing was much more competitive in these days and
the top guys couldnt go fight washed up fighters like this new era of
fighters can cause there were too many top quality opponents then.
they fought hard too...way less bullshit time in fights than now days.
Boxing was waaaay more action packed then.

pkbosslac 5 months ago
@hyenachase I totally agree with you. Chavez, in all his career, fought mediocre or just good fighters, never super fighters except for Hoya. He should not be ranked 23rd in the rankings of 50 greatest fighters of all time. Given that he was bitterly beaten by Hoya twice, and almost all his opponents were never super fighters, he should be ranked 40-50th on the rankings. Duran, at 37 beat Barkley, who became the light heavyweight champion of the world. Duran is way better than Chavez!
sohnghk 6 months ago
@sohnghk If you think Chavez fought "mediocre fighters" You are a fool. What are you doing in this thread honestly haha? Whats even more funny is that you really do believe it haha. Dude, when you say stuff like that, It makes you look bad as a boxing analyst. You obviously never lived in that era or you just don't know about boxing. Most likely you are the "NEW SCHOOL" cat that started watching boxing yesterday. You don't know how wrong you are man.
pkbosslac 5 months ago
@pkbosslac I have watched boxing since 1980. Chavez fought Mexican "mediocre" fighters or just good fighters like Taylor, Frankie Randall. What I tried to say was that Chavez never fought such ultra super fighters as Duran, Leonard, Aaron Pryor, Wilfredo Benitez, Tommy Hearns, etc. These fighters in prime would have beaten prime Chavez, You should not say "dude" randomly on official Utube site. You'd better be nicer to netizens when you say something. Floyd Mayweather is better than Chavez..
sohnghk 5 months ago
@sohnghk Please! Since 1980? You must be blind then. You knowledge of boxing is poor. Do you even realize that most of the "ULTRA" guys you named are true WELTERWEIGHTS???? Chavez was a TRUE lightweight. You can't even distinguish fighters by their divisions haha. Taylor was a GREAT fighter. Many people actually believe Chavez would beat Duran. Leonard, Hearns, Benitez are you kidding me?? Even Leonard was asked once of he would fight Chavez and said Chavez was too small. You are a fool!
pkbosslac 5 months ago
@pkbosslac sorry to say that you should not use the word "dude". It's not humiliating at all. I looked up the dictionary. As I am not American or British, I didn't know its real meaning. Anyway, do you think Chavez is as great as Duran, Leonard, Aaron Pryor, Wilfredo Benitez, Thomas Hearns, Felix Trinidad, Floyd Mayweather Jr? I think these fighters are better than Chavez. Chavez at age 35 was beaten by DLH. Duran at 37 beat Iran Barkeley who became the world light heavyweight champion later.
sohnghk 5 months ago
@sohnghk I don't know what's wrong with the word dude? It's not an insult. Im sorry if it seems that I have insulted you. Here we sometimes speak aggressively but don't worry, I'm not insulting you. I apologize. As for your question, Chavez being better depends on many things. Many of the fighters you claim to be only good, I consider to be more on the lines of great. Maybe not the BEST but great. Chavez fought the best of his time. It's hard to compared Chavez to Duran. If you compare their
pkbosslac 5 months ago
@sohnghk if we compare their record I would say Duran was better but If they BOTH FOUGHT, I think Chavez could beat him. Many people underestimate Chavez because of stupid controversial fights that had nothing to do with him and forget what a great boxer he was. BENITEZ, HEARNS, HAGLER, LEONARD were all much bigger than Chavez. It's hard to compare them. Pryor was good but had a reputation for being a cheater. Still Chavez at the light weights could beat anyone. Mayweather Jr? Are you serious?
pkbosslac 5 months ago
@pkbosslac DLH also started his career as a junior lightweight, just like Chavez. Hoya conquered 6 divisions, while Chavez got champion titles in 3 divisions. What are U gonna say about this? Chavez better than DLH?
sohnghk 5 months ago
@sohnghk When I tell you that Chavez was not a true Welter, is not WHERE YOU START or WHERE YOU END. I talk about your size and how well you hold that weight in certain divisions. De La Hoya started as a lightweight But he is not a lightweight haha. The guy is almost 6feet tall. He is taller and naturally weighs more. His body is build for Welter weights. When Chavez started he was a very small man. Much shorter. That's why De La Hoya was able to move up easier. He carried the weight well.
pkbosslac 5 months ago
@sohnghk That's why many people are very surprised about Pacquiao. Because the guy has fought at middleweight but he is SMALL!!!!! He is very small. His body is build to be a lightweight and he even started at lower weight divisions. But the guy continues to move up and not lose speed. He His power is also potent at the higher levels. But also this era is different than the past. Now you can pick and choose opponents. Back then, you had to fight the BEST!
pkbosslac 5 months ago
@pkbosslac I think you are really a boxing expert, very knowledgeable about every aspect of boxing. The Sanchez-Gomez fight makes me consider Sanchez a perfect boxer with all that speed, rhythmic movements, and superb combinations of straights and upper cuts. It's true Chavez-DLH fights disappointed me in regards to Chavez performance. Some say Chavez overrated, some say not. Some say we should think about ring age when we talk about Chavez DLH fights.
sohnghk 5 months ago
@sohnghk Thanks for the compliment brother but Im far from an expert. I just like to analyze things and appreciate the small things. Many people ignore and have biased opinions. Sanchez was an all-time great. Too bad he died young. He was a complete boxer. As far as Chavez, If you follow his WHOLE career, you will realize that he started going down hill around the age of 30. Remember that Chavez by that time had around 80 fights. That will ruin any man phisically and mentally.
pkbosslac 5 months ago
@pkbosslac I think you are mostly right. I'm gonna view more Chavez fights to get a real hang of him. My friend John says the same thing you do - Chavez had it all. Boxing historians are harldy biased. They rank Chavez 24th on the ranking hierachy for the 50 greatest boxers of all time. I think they did that out of deep considerations of all the things for the boxers. Chavez is ranked higher than Hearns and Hagler on ESPN boxer ranking. Thanx for your comments. Keep doing the good job here.
sohnghk 5 months ago
@sohnghk Look at Chavez fights when he was younger. Watch Both fights vs Mayweather. Watch the fight vs Edwin Rosario. Vs LA Porte, Vs Taylor. Many people believe Taylor was wining by a landslide but that's completetly false. Watch every Round closely and you will see how many times Chavez made Taylor miss, blocked them with his arms and gloves. For all the punches that Taylor threw, Chavez used great movement to make Taylor miss. WATCH it closely. Chavez as a lightweight was a machine.
pkbosslac 5 months ago
@pkbosslac Considering their capabilities as great boxers, I think Duran could beat Chavez! Duran is simply one of the best, ranked 5th on the ESPN ranking hierarchy. Several people think Pacquiao could beat Chavez, in line with the fact that Chavez had a very hard time with Meldrick Taylor, and Pacquiao is simply a better version of Taylor with all that speed and his unique unorthodox boxing style. My favorites are Ali, Leonard, and Duran. These are among the top ten boxers of all time.
sohnghk 5 months ago
@sohnghk Duran could beat anyone as well. The problem is that it's hard to compare or predict who would win in different eras. Every fight is different. Pacquiao is also great but Chavez and Duran could beat him also. Chavez had a IRON CHIN. One of the greatest body punchers in the hitory. Morales and Marquez IMO beat Pacquiao. Why not Chavez and Duran?
pkbosslac 5 months ago
@pkbosslac I mean, Pacquiao is a better version of Whitaker and Taylor. Like you said, this era has much fewer excellent boxers than the past. We cannot randomly say this guy could beat that guy in the past. A boxing fan says Chavez would have most likely encountered something he has never experienced if he had fought Pacquiao. I sort of agree. Pacquiao is a genius in some sense.
sohnghk 5 months ago
@sohnghk Pernell was a completely different fighter than Paquiao. He was more of a defensive, counter puncher. I can't say that's a better version, its a different style. Taylor gave Chavez problems because he was also a great fighter but Chavez also sent him to the hospital. The fight was close all the way. Taylor was more technical than Pacquiao. Pacman has an awkward style that throws people off, with speed and power. I doubt he would want to fight Chavez toe to toe. He would lose.
pkbosslac 5 months ago
@sohnghk You are claiming Chavez never fought "Ultra" fighters, WHO THE HELL DID MAYWEATHER FIGHT? haha. Are you being blinded by his great skill? Yes Mayweather is one of the greats but to compare his era to the past is a joke. Boxing was much tougher back in the day. Chavez could also beat Mayweather. You ever heard of Salvador Sanchez? That guy would beat Arguello, Pryor, as well but died very young. trinidad? C'mon bro! That guy is not even at that level. You have to be kidding me.
pkbosslac 5 months ago
@pkbosslac OK. I understand your point which is relevant! It's true that many boxing fans consider Chavez overrated. Enter "Is Chavez overrated?" on Google, and you'll find that a lot of them think Chavez overrated. I honestly say that Chavez did not show much in his two DLH fights. Those fights downgraded Chavez a lot. Anyway, it's true I should not compare Chavez to Benitez, Hearns, Leonard, etc, who were in heavier divisions. I admit Chavez is great. Do you think Chavez greater than Sanchez?
sohnghk 5 months ago
@sohnghk I think that the majority of boxing "FANS" are not knowledgeable of the sport. So even though they watch boxing, they are ignorant. They assume they know the sport. Anyone that says Chavez fought BUMS is a total fool. Chavez fought many great fighters and Chavez himself was a beast especially in the light weight divisions. The thing is that people remember stupid fights at WELTER vs Pernell and after because he started losing. Chavez at that point was not at his All-time best.
pkbosslac 5 months ago
@sohnghk It's hard to say If Chavez was better than salvador Sanchez because Sanchez died very young. Many experts believe that if he had not died, he would have gone as the GREATEST lightweight in the history of boxing. Too bad he died in a car crash. If Chavez fought Sanchez it would have been a great fight. As for De La Hoya, When Chavez fought him, Chavez was WAAAAAAAAAAY past his prime. I mean Chavez was a bum. I thought you knew this. Chavez was old and an alcoholic. Chavez career started
pkbosslac 5 months ago
@sohnghk going downhill after the Taylor fight. He was still able to manage and win fights but GRADUALLY he was decreasing and also losing dedication. He started to fall for Alcoholism and Cocaine. Remember Chavez had almost 100 fights! Think about De La Hoya or Pernell, who don't even have HALF haha. Chavez had a lot of tear and wear. he fought many WARS. Nobody had Chavez record in the modern era. I also like De La Hoya but he fought an old Chavez big time.
pkbosslac 5 months ago

Nozzy819 5 months ago
@Nozzy819 Taylor, Whitaker, Rosario, Cortes, Roger Mayweather were very good fighters. What I meant by mediocre fighters was those 2nd or 3rd class fighters Chavez beat in Mexico or the US. Prime Chavez never fought such ultra super fighters like Duran (light), Aaron Pryor (light welter), Benitez, Hearns, Leonard, Trinidad(welter). These ultra super fighters would have beaten prime Chavez. My perspective is that Chavez is somewhat overrated.
sohnghk 5 months ago
@sohnghk, to say that Chavez fought 'mediocre' fighters is absolutely ridiculous. There was nothing mediocre at all about Rosario, Taylor, La Porte, Camacho, Ramirez or Mayweather, and Chavez was clearly on the slide when he fought De la Hoya. There is absolutely no way Pacquiao stops Chavez, either. Chavez is all-time top 3 at both Super-Featherweight and Light-Welterweight, and in between did a WBA/WBC Lightweight double. I'd have him behind Leonard & Duran, but well ahead of Hearns & Hagler.
iljn1988 5 months ago
@iljn1988 Rosario, Taylor, La Porte, Camacho, Ramirez or Mayweather were never mediocre fighters, but very good fighters. When I said 'mediocre fighters', I meant those 2nd or 3rd class fighters Chavez beat mainly in Mexico or the US. Consider the Randall fight. Chavez got knocked down once and beaten by Frankie Randall, who was never a super fighter. Duran in light weight, Aaron Pryor in light welter weight, Hearns, Leonard, Trinidad in welter weight would have beaten prime Chavez!
sohnghk 5 months ago
@sohnghk You have a lot to learn about Chavez. You have a lot to learn about boxing period. Unfortunately watching videos is not the same as living that time.
pkbosslac 5 months ago
@iljn1988 Chavez was #3 in the Light Welterweight. The best was Aaron Pryor, next was Wilfredo Benitez, and the third was Chavez. Chavez didn't fight such ultra super fighters as Duran, Aaron Pryor, Benitez, Hearns, Leonard, Trinidad, or Floyd Mayweather Jr. Chavez was beaten by Frankie Randall, who was just a very good fighter, but never a super one. I think Chavez was lucky and he is somewhat overrated!
sohnghk 5 months ago
Behind Whitaker, though.
iljn1988 5 months ago
@iljn1988 Thanx for the good comment. I am going to view Chavez fights more so that I could get a real hang of him. However, I'd have Chavez ahead of Arguello but behind Mayweather Jr.
sohnghk 5 months ago
@iljn1988 pacquiao kills chavez any day.. too slow. good chin good power. but not enough speed to compete with pacquiao. all of these speculations are based on our personal biases of course. no one can really compare current greats with fighters of old. but what strikes me is most of the so called boxing experts would tend to favor old school fighters over current fighters. do fighters today have inferior technique? are they less athletic?? i dont get it at all.
jobz199 5 months ago
@jobz199, Pacquiao can't counter-punch to save his life, and it's counter punchers who gave Chavez trouble (Taylor, Whitaker, Randall). Pacquia walking in to Chavez's attack would be a disaster for him. Above 130 lb, Pacquiao's opponents haven't exactly been stellar. He's good enough to beat the 'good' fighters at the higher weights, but never a great one like Chavez . Fighters today don't have inferior technique, but the talent pool is definitely more shallow than ever before.

@iljn1988 that's one way to look at it. but it's also apparent that pacquiao loves to fight aggressive fighters. pacquiao wins just by sheer volume of punches thrown. he also throws faster punches and packs more power (proven by damaging his opponents in the higher weight classes). who do you think would win if they keep trading?
jobz199 5 months ago
@iljn1988 bullshit the elite fighters today would smash the the fighters of the old days, mayweather would have anihalated chavez, he couldnt box to save his life, mayweathers speed and his clean punching ability is so inferior to chavez, i think you could put him up against any welterweight in any era
dazza2610 5 months ago
@dazza2610, when was the last time Mayweather 'annihilated' anyone? The elite fighters today? Maybe you're stupid enough to think that Pacquiao, Martinez and Ward etc are better technicians than Whitaker, Toney and Nunn, but you'd be the only one who does. Mayweather's great, but he's no great Welterweight. Seriously, you need to stop embarrassing youself with these kind of comments. In terms of achievements, both Chavez and Whitaker leave Mayweather eating their dust.
iljn1988 5 months ago
@iljn1988 i cant argue with that at all
but then the level of comp isnt there for him to be challenged
regardless none of them cant fuck with Floyds Defense
Ive never seen any like it Pernell is my all time favorite boxer
but he just wasnt there by the time you threw a punch while
Mayweather sits right there and voids your shit.

@iljn1988 who mentioned all those names haha i didnt say hed beat whittaker i said chavez? you might like to think chavez is some great boxer but he was a slugger he was outboxed for 12 rounds by meldrick taylor a clean punching boxer as mayweather is, mayweather is much faster whittaker and quicker on his feet, chavez would have been ANIHALATED, and if ur asking me when was the last time mayweather anihalated anyone when was the last time chavez did...
dazza2610 4 months ago
@iljn1988 his first 44 wins in mexico up until the time he fought mayweather are against unheard of opponents if you dont believe me look it up? you cant look a single one up on wikipedia they were all bums from mexico with mediocre records, it was even a running joke in the run up to the taylor fight that chavez had gotten his big record from fighting bums haha he gets dominated by fast fighters and i think mayweather would punish him
dazza2610 4 months ago
@iljn1988 his first 44 fights that he won up until the time he first fought mayweather if you try and look up any of the fighters before that on wikipedia you cant?, they are all mediocre fighters from mexico, it was even a running joke in the taylor fight that he had beaten a bunch of mexican gas pump attendants haha
dazza2610 4 months ago
@dazza2610, the fact that you use wikipedia as some sort of guidance point - or a point of any reference at all - says it all to me; you're a casual (and clueless) fan. Chavez's wins over the fighters I mentioned more than justify his place as an all time great. What he did by fighting unknowns AS WELL AS world class opponents to keep busy is no different than Robinson, Pep, Duran, Saddler, Greb etc - so why single out Chavez? Whitaker was greater, but Chavez was a legend in his own right.
iljn1988 4 months ago
@iljn1988 beating people like refugio rojas justifies you an all time great ? he had a record of 27-12 when he fought chavez thats hardly a worthy opponent and arreola had a record of 34-17, hardly worth bragging about to be honest, they were journeymen fighters, the rest i admit are good fighters but mayweather is great too, i think he would beat chavez, i dont think pacquaio would though, your the one who launched into a tirade and mentioning people like ward and froch haha
dazza2610 3 months ago
@dazza2610 Before the Taylor fight, Chavez had already fought Juan LaPorte, Edwin Rosario, Rocky Lockridge, Roger Mayweather, Jose Luis Ramirez, Bazooka Limon, Refugio Rojas, Ruben Castillo, and Adriano Arreola. All these men were quality fighters. Trust me, when he fought Taylor, Chavez's record was no joke.
ard56191 4 months ago
@ard56191 i still think mayweather is better than all of those fighters so that doesnt really mean anything to me,
dazza2610 3 months ago
@iljn1988 Why do you keep using fights where Chavez obviously past his best. When were you born? 88? You obviously missed the best of Chavez. Taylor Chavez was still great but after that he started going downhill at a fast pace. The Whitaker and Randall fights were a joke. Chavez was not at his All-time best. Anyone that followed Chavez career knows this. This is a FACT! If you don't believe me, watch the old school Chavez fights. As for Taylor, ASK Taylor if Chavez gave him trouble haha.

Ronz93 6 months ago
@Ronz93 damn right.. same with mayweather there will be nothing special in that fight. floyd will just be back pedaling and doesnt want to take risk... pacs aggression is to much for any fighter.

@bagtitish Of course hes on roids he should
MrShowgun44 6 months ago
Pernell beat JCC and so did Meldrick Taylor. They were both robbed of victories. Any slick boxer or counter puncher would give JCC trouble. Ray Leonard would for sure, Ray Robinson would definitely beat him to a decision if not knock him out cold
dhankins627 6 months ago
whitaker's defense was probably better then mayweather jrs
