@zebraxman Nope... whatever works. Also, your ability to breathe to both sides can help in a competition cause you'll be able to see the people you're racing... so make sure you don't always look to just one side.
these videos are great for all of us who who do not have access to a coach.. I have the same problem as Mistress of Mirth... too long away from the water and of course breathe still on one side...the catch is difficult too...still very slow but the technique is getting there ...so,will practise and practise...swimming is the best all around sport! ( even if you are small and lean).
I find that unilateral breathing can help you go longer distances while conserving more energy due to the more frequent breathing. Although you might develop a "gallop", it really is just personal preference
I'm almost 60 y.o. and right side breather. Anyone out there in my age group start bi lateral breathing? How long until you became proficient?? I need encouragement. Still drowning.
I actually learned this by myself earlier as a matter of necessity since I had left shoulder problems from breathing solely from my right side and over-rotating my hand entry into the water, though probably the latter contributed more than the former. Anyways, correcting the latter and learning how to breathe from both sides greatly reduced my left shoulder pain where it is pretty much non-existent today.
wow, they swim very fast, i love swimming ^^ i can swim all the time. swimming is such a great sport. I think it's useful for everybody to have good health. enjoy you!
I have a question. I need tips on building endurance. When i swim i need to breath on every second stroke. I have been swimming for a year now and nothing has changed. I can barely swim 100 laps w/o stopping. Am i doing something wrong?
100 laps is good for one year, keep up the good work, do one more lap every half a week and u'd be surprised how much u improve. ud do 200 by next year
i breathe right in one length and left the other length...in practice and competition. is that bad????
