Just get a nice huge sustainable container (if you must use glass but don't want to look at it: decorate the outside before use - paints, decal, etc.).
For worms: PLEASE buy from farms where you can see the worms are in a ground-like area, in the open. There aren't a lot of these, so try to get worms who aren't kept like slaves in tiny styrofoam.
