  • these kids look like 10 year olds, so the zone is bigger. Also, the umpire looks like a high school kid doing an in-house league game. Give him a break. Maybe it was outside for most, but also if he consistently called this pitch all game then it is a strike and that's the way it is. Everything looks worse out of context.

  • 72" strike zone

  • As Bob Uecker would say..."just a bit outside."

  • give the kid a break, umpiring is a tough job made even tougher by idiots

  • the umpire didnt look to much older than the kids playing.

  • a little out, lol

  • I don't mind the balloon protector, but the dangling throat guard outside the balloon protector is a little bit of overkill.

  • It's true that the pitch was about 10 feet outside. The kid has a good swing though.

  • it doesn't help when the umpire is younger than the kids

  • Can anyone else see the plate

  • When the children are young, its better to open up your stricke zone, ALOT, but that pitch was really far out of the stricke zone, but if you want those games to go by quick , call 'em like that, and balls and strikes are judgement calls, so you cant argue it

  • First of all u shitheads in little league the league supplies and stores all the gear for their umps since most of them are in highschool or do not otherwise umpire so they dont have their own gear. Second the ballon is easier for the league maintain as they dont have as many pieces that can break, also for the teenagers like this umpire they provide better protection cause with kids this little u have no clue where the ball is actually going to go. O he isnt that good but hes like FUCKIN 13!

  • Balloon protectors are awesome!

Ok, they suck serious ass to wear and are so 1960's but hey! The retro look is kinda cool. BTW, wasn't that pitch in the next state?

  • Using equipment that is obsolete from eight hundred years ago...and who taught this umpire. He's setting up outside.

  • He's on the opposite side of the slot, of course It's probably not his fault, poor training.

  • Teach the kids to pitch and umpires won't have to go searching for strikes. And what kind of a loser post this on the Web?

  • ur mom

  • how about teach the umpire what a stirke zone is instead cause that was way out in the batter box.

  • i know u have to have a wide zone for this age but tht was a lil to big of a zone.

  • What is that umpire wearing? A blue polo, camo pants, and an external chest protector?

Please. Not to mention his hat is on backwards. Very unprofessional appearance.

All gear goes under clothes, the hat is to be worn forwards, with the bill under the mask (get a short billed cap for this purpose). However, these kids can't pitch. You have to have a liberal strike zone for this age.

When I call this age, my philosophy is if it's close it's a strike, and they're all strikes if you don't....

  • ....make an attempt to hit the ball.

  • thats beacuse he not an offical umpire freaking idiot.

  • Wow. Dude's SERIOUSLY bragging about being a little league umpire. Not only that, but honestly critiquing what other ump's look like.

Dude...please stay away from children. You seem like one of the guys who gets off on having any type of power.

  • I call more than that. I call that, high school, and college ball, so I must be pretty good eh?

You think I'm some sort of criminal or pedophile and I assure you I'm not. I deal with little children all the time, working as a private tutor. I'm not that way. However, when it comes to officiating, you act like a child, you're going to be watching the rest of the game from the parking lot. I don't tolerate it.

  • I frankly do not care what levels you ump.

My point was you're coming off as being very obnoxious with your critique of what the KID who is umping LITTLE LEAGUE is wearing. That's pathetic and it comes off as a guy trying to show what a big shot he is.

And no, I do not think you're a pedophile or a pederast. I think you're an idiot babbling about a little league ump.

But the "pretty good, eh" comment really goes to the heart of my argument. SO WHAT?

  • hehe, i really dont care but the kid does look goofy

  • he seem like a voulnteer parent. who not getting paid. and looks go a long way.

if you dont look official your not going to get the repsect. bagpiper has a point.

  • Kids umpiring kids...thats how everyone learns! Quit your whinning!

  • u have to have a huge strike zone for these ages. I used to umpire this age, its terrible.

  • i say that kid is adleast 11 in my town u have to play in majors to ump (which is 13) and we get paid $32 to do plate, im in my 4th year of umping and is highly praised and i wear my shin guards on the outside BIG WOOP

  • If you're making that much money from umpiring and you've been doing it for 4 years, then you really should buy a pair of plate pants and put the shinguards under your pants.

  • i just got me some smaller shins

    looks more professional

  • wow you put this on youtube its little league the ump is like 13 big deal

  • its because like many MLB umps he feels comfortable on the outer half of the plate so anything out but not in he will call a strike. this is a very exaggerated version of it but you see my point. some ML umps have this problem but nobody wants to tell them

  • is little league, the ump was like 12, big deal

  • funny

  • The Umps a Kid and is LL who cares

  • yeah.........bad call......

  • What's up with the Darth Vader oufit. Ah, yea that chest protector went out in the 50's. Oh the shin guards go on inside your "jeans".

  • not all leauges are financially strong enough to pay sanctioned umpires to umpire all of their games so they pay youth volunteers to umpire their games, its good experiance for the youth, and its a cheaper way for the kids (players) to play some good ball, thus, they cant afford to provide every volunteer umpire with top of the line officiating equipment. for the longest time when i was a teen umpire i just used an old catchers chest protector.

  • wow really bad call, lol shingards on the outside
