Don't do this. This can fail in so many ways. The system is not intended for people at all. If you have to do this, at least buy a hydraulic cylinder instead and mount it in the wall. Then us microswitches to control movement automatically between floors. If the system fails, the elevator will slowly decend.

i suggest you use a couple of micro switches placed in such a way that the elevator stops automatically in the right spot when coming down or going up. it's a great invention and it's worth it making it really neat.
