erhgk!! i felt seick from watching that video!!!!! n i was gna giv blood last week!! :S good thing i didn't hav ma consent form with me after all!! Especcially when the blood needle went in, cos it went in soo far! :'( It also reminded me of period blood a bit, when the blood was going in the bag!! :$ which didn't exactly help ma queeziness!! :X
ive never donated blood before, and im going to in a couple weeks at our schools blood bank, im terrified of needles but to me, a second of pain is worth saving a life, i hope i dont pass out or anything, but i feel that donating blood is a duty rather than an option, any advice for anxiety?
The only pain you feel is the injection of anaesthesia, and its just slight pain only. after the injection the area will be numb and you won't feel any pain at all, you may reduce your anxiety by diverting your attention somewhere else such as reading a book or closing your eyes, listen to music and let the nurse work on your vein. Have faith in them, they done the same thing many times a day, they are efficient and professional and will minimise the pain
I was a bit nervous my first time aswell. What helped me was getting prepared before the donation. So drinking lots of water and eating well beforehand. This made me feel much less nervous about passing out or anything like that. Listening to music really does help. I found actually searching through your music to choose a song helps as you have to think about it and it takes ur mind off giving blood. Also when donating keep moving your fingers and clenching a fist. Makes it go a lot faster.
I think I may be donating soon per a bet I lost, and this will be my first time adn i HATE NEEDLES! I hope that they will give me an anasetic or else hit me over the head!
hey i donated blood today she said that it would take 10-15 minute but it took more than 25 minutes. she said that since i have small veins it took longer.

Why do so many places infuse lidocaine first? Why would you want two needle sticks?

I enjoy giving blood, so I will keep doing it whenever I can until I get sick of it.

when they first stick the random needle in and take it out, their taking a blood test to see what your blood type is first

what is the stuff that they injected into your vein at the beginning? And what is the purpose. When I donated blood I did not have anything injected.
