if im correct this type of cutter does not require coolant accually more often then not now machine tool cutters are better run dry then with a coolant im a machinist in training and i no that i wont lie im a an 18year old male in a vocational high school pretty sad when i no more about diffrent machining methods then some of you guy who have doing this all your life
wow, trash a couple hundred dollars of inserts in one cut. Must be a profitable cut to burn up the inserts. I assume the speed nets more money than a slower more insert friendly cut. What's the RPM and feed rate on that beast?

Accualy the sparks are from chip recutting.
The cutter only got warm to the touch.
Inserts did 7 parts on same corner and went well into another job before needing changed.
4" cutter 450 sfm, 100 ipm and a .04 depth of cut on ramp down with air blast only.
Sumo Feed mills, the increase in material removal was like adding another machine to our capacity.

what sparks?

time for new inserts and some flood coolant. It's rubbing more than cutting when you see sparks.

The operator freaked and hit the E stop thinking something was wrong the first time he ran this.
Also for the others, no coolant, air blast only, the coating on the inserts doesn't like the thermal shock.

+1 for being ramping down into the pocket, i cut a 10 minute run time to a 1.30 run time by doing this

@stezyjake
There is no coolant. Oil is fed with compressed air to the milling cutter.
