I don't know if that is slack in the joints or flexing of the frame, or lag time in the motors. it looks like it barely works. Of course it is a prototype & they're working on it though.
Purpose of life is to stay alive. If you become too disconnected from reality then you're either already dead or you're on your way to dying.
Robots and AI are like a thought that's in the back of our mind that tickles us and gives us the periodic sinking feeling. It's the same kind of thought that we have when we think about death or getting old. Maybe we're looking at our death when we look at AI or something.
Well we could have biological super men if we were willing to break all of the ethical conditions surrounding it. Of course, they would more than likely kill us all or simply become the elite and replace us over several generations. Seems no matter what we do, we're going to get replaced by someone or get replaced in stages by our own technology advancements.
How about we build robots that build houses, or relieve people from the slave work industry? or maybe know how to fix your car? instead of using our tax dollars on more pro war nonsense. evil men advance science and technology hasn't anyone learned this yet?
what's up with all the bungies hanging from that piece of junk........contact Japan so they can give you some advice on how to rebuilt that old engine, just like ford vs Toyota.
its amazing how far the human race has advanced so far but the future seems to be very robotic its either the japanese or russians or americans to invent a fully mobile suit for the army or to start a whole new type of war
robotic war where humans fight in mechs for example armored core its interesting how the human race is turning out the future is either horrible or exciting but the future is unknown
how much can this robot carry ? and looks nearly completed (as in there is no lag from it trying to keep its balance from falling) hope it dont need a significant power source
make thousands of these robots and have them controlled by call of duty geeks and unleash them as an invasion force in Iran, North Korea or any other future conflict, the war will be over in days.
@bombarderoazul - Ya REALLL Cool. And then they'll come after you for not paying your taxes or parking ticket. Can you see where this is headed. The one's who are spending these billions of dollars into research are going to be the one's who determine what the robots do. Not you.
You don't need intelligent humanoid robots. You could control them remotely like the drones. The controlling mechanic i can imagine is the one of first-person-shooters.
Put a hand on the end (they can, just wasn't part of this build process so it would be simple to add) and I'll take a complete left arm! Think about as medical research advancement. If they could tie its motors into the human electrical system it'd be a great thing!
Everyone is talking about how humans are superior humans are as far as these robots are concerned. But imagine if we could put robotic soldiers on the field controlled by a human, remotely? Not AI in the bot but a human with a remote control. Take it from a military man, it'd be nice to drop the death toll on the battlefield. No matter the price, the cost of a droid, a few servos and circuits, is cheaper than the loss of a father, a son, a mother, a daughter. I pray we get to that point soon!
I know to many out here this thing look really rudimentary at this point, but give Boston Dynamics another 15 to 20 years. The stuff we call science fiction (The Terminator T-800 etc.) may not be so fictitious anymore. There are big investments being made. It has a long way to go in terms of agility and speed. In addition once either Intel, IBM or AMD or all three develop some type of neural processor/cpu. It's coming. I just hope that there will be a serious fail safe system in place.
so even if you're a robot you still have to work out? wow! I figure that being a robot would solve the problem, and does he know how to tie his shoes?
Looks just like Terminator... except for the no hands, pipe arms, black box chest, weird yellow legs, and flashing red light for a head. But besides that exactly!
@coopdeville777 No, you fail to see the philosophical complexity about existence...what makes a person? An individual? If a robot is advanced enough to be as much as an individual as a biological person, what is the difference? What exactly is human? Why do we exist and why are we the only self aware living from, we know? Or even better, if we are so advanced to use mechanical body parts, like an arm, or even organs, how much human is left? Again, what is human?
it doesnt have hands and fingers right now but soon in the future they will replace those bars it has for hands into guns!.....so I am preparing for the robot uprising ┌∩┐(●_●)┌∩┐
@Doviux09 If u ever heard of something called Mores law u would know that the price/performance on computer power is expanding exponentially. lol we do have terminators, they call the preditors, why would the military spend so much money on one robotic solder? lol thats insane, humans are smarter superior and cheaper. lol your delusional if you think theyll have a humanoid robot that can think in the next 50 years. All these walking robots you see... they are all preprogramed not "thinking on the fly". and they only show you the successes, not the huge amount of failures.
@coldlogic1 hey smartass, it is a joke. Ofcource i know about predator drones, but this one looks like terminator and has the mechanics to walk and balanco on its own. Thats all. It is designed to test clothes in hazardous conditions. U are dilusional if you think i was serious when making this vid.
@Doviux09 The thing is they don't have to have hands just the wepon suspend by the arm or mounted to a part of the main body. The real scary part is once we advance our computers enough and produce a lasting micro power source then things will be different. When we get to where they are not attached to a control and free running then remote robotics and cybornectics are the factor. Time is now that real life cyber arms and legs are being tested and used.
@coldlogic1 I would be willing to bet that they have thinking robots in much less than 50 years. I say 30 at the MAX. IBM has recently developed technology that basically can allow us to store the equivalent of 1 MILLION times the amount of data per volume compared to standard modern tech. (read that again... 1 million times the amount of data per volume)
Robots will be MUCH, much cheaper than humans. Humans need food, water and soo many variables. Also emotional status, they need time to learn, years to develop physically, the list can just keep on going.
A robot can just be programmed to know anything and will have a much greater capacity than a human brain. The only energy they will need is electrical and that's about all the requirements. They will be physically much stronger. But that ofcourse will happen in the near future.
@coldlogic1 DARPA is already hard at work trying to research autonomous robots for military purposes, and have been for years now. Some scientists say that robots will start to replace humans in exceptionally dangerous war situations as soon as 2025.

@coldlogic1 you need to get a reality check... with the exponential growth in computer power I doubt that "intelligent" systems that can think are more than 10-15 years away.
You talk about the failures - it just took ONE getting it right with the nuclear bomb then they knew how it worked and built on that.
Robots are not just about processing power - its about tools to get the thinking "right" - and when that first one gets it right then that it what is built on - not the failures.
@coldlogic1 One with any kind of moral values wouldn't put a # on a human life. Any smart military leader would gladly spend money on robot soldiers. no pension, no funerals, no telling their family and loved ones they lost someone. Sure, the cost of robots initialy would be very high, but with technology and time, they would get cheaper and more advanced.
@SoulofLibra777 If you think for a second that within 50 years, we won't have intelligent robotics who think on the fly, it is you who are delusional. In the past twenty years alone, we have made more scientific advancements than in the past 100 years. If this trend continues(which patterns in history says it will), we could easily something like this.
PERCENTAGES OF THOUGHT AGREE TO DISAGREE WHAT PURPOSE LIFE TO DEFEND OR KILL FOR SOME CASHED UP WANKER WITH A WET DREAM NOTHING LASTS FOREVER WHEN DOES THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS EXPIRE BARACKS BUDDY gEORGE
So basically were looking at a few digital generations and a couple billion dollars or so from now which surely some evil company, say GE will politely offer to do say for "Protection from terrorism? From say evil AL CIAda?. lol" hey all it would need then would be bullet proof armor, thermal vision and A.I, which they are close to doing know in basic terms, throw in a couple of weapons and yea. good times lol, as if a power tripping police officer wasnt bad enough eh?. GOD BLESS, PEACE AND LOVE
@Dark1ne78 Can you imagine that it was created to test military clothing?? How ridicilious is that :D? Robot to test clothes has to have superhuman strenth, balance, all those posing abilities. Cant they just give them to a person or something? I bet that the next year we'll here reports of "terminators" killing people in middle east :D.
