Gotta admit, Portnoy leaving was a blow to me...he was as much DT as any of them, if not more...he brought so much to their table so to speak...that being said, I can hardly wait to finally get a chance to see Mangini play live (Oct 25 Austin Texas...15th row in a small venue on the UT campus) AND with my favorite band! Mike had to make the hard decision. You have to understand what goes through a musicians mind. sometimes when you go this long, it's like beating your head against the wall. I only followed this band because I went to school with Jordan for a few years. I think if Jordan and John would walk away and go another direction something big would happen for them. The fact of the matter is; if you closed your eyes, listened to this video and was told that this was recorded before Portnoy left - you wouldn't know any difference.

Mangini covers Portnoy exceptionally well and I for one am extremely happy that he's part of Dream Theater now. A fantastic addition to the band.

Those criticising Mangini - remember he has taken a few months to learn a set that Portnoy has been able to work at and build up over years. Decades with some songs...

I saw them in Wolverhampton and the version of 'Count' they did there sounded much more polished than this. I guess they get better every night, but not sure how much is due to recording quality.

I think Mangini did a superb job - he's an absolutely incredible player :-)

I've listen to that video again and again. And even if I like Mr.Mangini very much. You can hear it's missing something. There's is a slight change in the bpm. Listen very carefully around 3:58. They donsound as tight as they previously where. I remember feeling that when Derrick Sherenian, was playing live with DT. I guess I'll need to give them some time!!!!!! One positive thing, Mike drumset is awesome!!!!!!!
