  • @twistoftime I agree, treble is lacking - I think it is the fault of the recording, not the registration.

  • Awesowe and incredible!

  • The best performance ever of this piece! Bravo!!

  • Well played! A tad fast at times, but you performance has a nice expression.

  • Not sure if it's the recording or the registration, but the treble is completely missing. Nothing but mud. Sad...the playing seems decent.

  • I've been looking at a lot of YouTube videos of this piece and I must say I really do enjoy this one. It has the energy of the Toccata but the melodic line is so haunting. The clarity of this recording is wonderful.....nothing is lost in mud.

  • this is the saddest thing ive ever seen on youtube

  • @TheMessTube Hey, Mess. Instead of ingesting feces, please tell us what it is that you dont' like. It's a perfectly good performance.

  • There are some 18 dislikes here thus far. The question is what do they dislike---the performance or the music. Well the performance is rather tame but it is professionally done. If you expected to hear this with the thunderous 32' feet and all the stops of a very large organ then you need to listen on a larger organ as found in the US. I fail to comprehend why anyone would dislike this work when it can be the kind of performance that has you dancing in the aisles like Virgil Fox did it.

  • !!! !!!

  • Superbe interprétation et très bel instrument. Un résultat magnifique !

  • o kso, i turned the volume to high, bad idea when you have surroudn sound hooked up to your computer. My eardrums enarly popped form the massivness! It was almost like a real organ in my house!

  • Excellent. I question why so far 18 people clicked dislike, what is the matter with them?

  • I played the piece after this morning's service. It is always very popular. I agree that this is one of the best performances on YouTube.

  • Ottima interpretazione! Veramente fantastica!

  • hilarious.... best player...love it . thanks

  • A belated thanks to you, musichiere, for this excellent upload.

  • Yesterday I spent some time in Dudelange ... Now it's simply marvellous to listen.

  • Superb!

  • ty 4 ure performance. It´s great.

  • REALLY GOOD, but in the pedal he shouldn't take an 4' reed.........

AND at the begin he goes faster ;)

    BUT, realy GOOD version ^^

  • REALLY GOOD, but in the pedal he shouldn't take an 4' reed.........

  • magnifique

  • Nice!

  • i. am. so. blown. away.

  • In my opinion the best performance of this work on Youtube. Thank you, one can actually breath, the tempo is beautiful. This really comes alive as a Toccata.

  • I think you're a very good and successfull organ player.

But in this performance, I perosonally don't like upgrading the tempo in the middle part.

    Othrwise, very good playing.

  • Im so sad I cant get my headphones to play this any louder... :(

  • Impressive! My favorite interpretation of this piece! Truly inspiring! I want to learn this piece! I have the score already. =) Once more, congratulations.

  • LOL! his face at 3:00 made it seem as if he was in a horror movie! hahaa

  • Lovely room acoustics...what about those shoes though? I always thought I played better in loafers until I went to college and was convinced I had to buy more expensive shoes than those I was comfortable in?? sigh Great job!!

  • superb tempo. You and Léon Boëllmann are a match.

  • Este muchacho toca muy bien!!Como se llama?saco algún disco?

  • I agree, marvelous! But, please, who is playing and may I have a few details on the organ? Thanks!

  • @omahas9000 The player is Philippe Delacour, famous French organist. The instrument is the large Stahlhuth-Jann organ of St. Martin in Dudelange (Luxembourg). Regards.

  • @musichiere70 delacour is one of my all time favorites! his interpretations are tres bien

  • Bravo!

  • Once again I click on my bookmark and once again it is amazing! Last sunday the organist in my hometown played it in a concert ... first time live on a Klais organ. great performance!

  • This is an incredible video. I commend the organist for amazing skill. I love this recording. This is my first time listening to this recording, and it brought tears to me eyes, of which rarely happens with music. Thank you for bringing me a great feeling i haven't felt in a long time.

  • A wonderful performance. I played it at a wedding myself, today - almost as well as this, if I may say so!

  • Now that's how it should be played. BRAVO!

  • very well played learning this piece right now

  • I'm learning this piece right now, its hard to find a version where toccata does'nt mean "plays-as-fast-as-you-can"... Anyway, this is the best of all the versions i've heard so far!

  • Delacour's interpretation is wonderful, if a dime fast. Bravo! I am no "fashonista", but I couldn't help but notice: Gray slacks, black shoes and blue socks! (Chuckle!)

    Good posting - thanks!

  • it is the best recording from the toccata i have aver seen

  • This is a superb performance of a piece I have loved and played for years. It helps, having such a superb instrument, of course!

  • Nice performance, though he should check his tempo. It's very irregular, sometimes faster, sometimes slower... quite annoying, but the rest is amazing!

  • WHo was the Organist and where was this recorded?

  • @Tang0Fox1 - Philippe Delacour -- Saint Martin abbey - Dudelange (Luxembourg) - Stahlhut-Jan organ

  • @albula01 Thank You very much.

  • This is by far, one of the best performances of this piece I have heard. You do a phenomenal job maintaining the tempo and give the organ such breadth in this piece. The stops sound beautiful and I believe this is how Boellmann himself envisioned his masterpiece being played. Wonderful job!

  • Sorry, the best version on youtube is by Daniel Chorzempa. Don't take my word for it, check it out. This sound is rather weak.

  • What tempo marking does Boellmann have marked for this Toccata?

  • I love this Toccata my second favorit French Toccata.

  • monumental !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

  • I LOVE how it falls to major at the end! It adds a whole extra dimension to it!

  • ¡qué técnica!

  • Grandios! Weltklasse.

  • If I can give you a hint to your friends, use the pedal first the left heel and then the right angle then the left angle. So you get the melody in the correct Tackt. There are 16th puncturing. Many play it too slow .. Yours sincerely

  • une superbe performance, cependant, il est dommage que le 32' de pédale n'apparaisse que sur la cadence finale...

  • OMG i posed a comment near a year ago and lost track of time....hope i remember to feed the....nope drat foiled again

  • This falls perfectly in the "Sinister and Powerful" category of organ music. I just wish it ended in a minor key.

  • Is this Dudelange?

  • Yes it is.

  • Loved it! And thanks for focusing the video on the performer - was great to see him working away to make such a wonderful sound.

  • Good Lord!

Delacour is making me addict to this Toccata...

  • Omg that was fucking awesome

  • still my favorite video

  • Still one of my favorite videos!

  • This was by far the best performance of this piece that I have heard so far. Amazing. It gave me goosebumps! The registration in the final section was breathtaking.

  • @fsbehne3 - Daniel Chorzempa's version...

  • @fsbehne3 I agree wholeheartedly. Philippe Delacour may be under-rated on YouTube because he just sits there and plays without any facial contortions and extravagant gestures. I too have watched it many times.

  • waah...gänsehaut...!

  • sehr gansehaut!

  • hmmm...there are no passages in triplets in the end. strange...

    but...

    absolutely magnificent!!!

  • to Aserikoth, Am I (a) homosexual?

DUUUUUHHHHH. I AM a male, church organist.

    Any other questions?

  • Superb, and what a handsome artist.

  • I dont think it's any of your damn business if he is....HOMOPHOBE!

  • très belle interprétation, bravo !

  • Super performance, clean playing, great build, intensity and integrity.

  • Comparing to the videoanswer (Dr. Carol), this is really MONUMENTAL and serious, not a chaotic run to catch the morning bus at all costs. I also appreciate as the sound is being build up during the recording

  • CHAPEAU!

  • Recorded in Dudelange, Luxembourg, Stahlhuht-Jann Orgue

  • Absolument superbe !

  • L'orgue de Dudelange à Luxembourg est superbe, mais aussi l'organiste.

  • WOW ! ...

  • Quelle orgue?

  • La trompette de 8 au pédalier est superbe !! C'est magnifique !

  • Bravo Philippe! Cela donne véritablement des frissons!

  • C'est beau !

  • великолепно..просто великолепно!

  • Я полностью с Вами согласен, уважаемый.

  • yes indead very well done nice sound and video

  • I come back time after time to this video. I think one of the best recordings on You tube.

  • Thanks so much, John, from the Producer of this Video.

  • Hear Daniel Chorzempa's version.

  • @OrganistJohn I quite agree. with other interpretations it's either too fast, too slow, too loud. The registration is just about letter perfect, the first part is somewhat subdued, to make the second part all the more dramatic.. Well done, Philippe!

  • @OrganistJohn I agree! How can anyone not like this music. It's so good for the soul.

  • Einfach der Hammer!

Live ist das nochmal besser und am Ende fegts Dich aus der Kirche! =o)

  • potente! maestoso! che figata l'organo con tutti i registri aperti!

  • Showy and spooky. Bach has more soul than Boellmann. Well played though.

  • Nice performance for anone mechanic organ. I just miss a good 32" contrebombarde at the end. The one on this organ is not so loud.

  • I love Delacour. There's such elegance in every piece he plays. I never get the feeling he's showing off; just letting himself be a vessel for the music. Glorious!

  • la vuelvo a escuchar y cada vez se escucha mejor exelente interpretacion

  • The 5th star in the ratings denotes "Awesome." Beyond that, words are inadequate for such beauty.

  • Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome, I tell you! Just awesome!

  • Mr delacourt ????

  • exelente Hermosa interpretacion

  • I have read trough the comments and I only want to answer the question where and what organ it is: it is the Stahlhuth organ in st Martin's church in Dudelange, Luxembourg.

Excellent performance, by the way! :)

  • Great registration! I think the best for this piece!

  • when I listen to this song I always think of a vampire lord

  • just GREAT!

  • Every time I see this, I'm just poleaxed. I just don't understand how it can be possible to play with so many tiers of keys. I'd die.

    Anyway, fantastic.

  • anytime i hear this i think of some guy dresed in black with a cape trying to get the deed to some ladys ranch or something' drat foiled again!"

  • Hahahahah! Yeah, that makes sense. I hear it, and I think of a scene in a fanfic I wrote.

If you'd like to know more, don't hesitate to ask.

  • a really good performance

  • When I have listened to this played in the pedal with the 32' reeds, of course it sounds fantastic! I did here a couple of organists play it on monster manual instruments and coupled both 32' and 64' reeds! It just sounds unnerving and scary snarling down there at 8 Hz with the 64"s but I really love it!!

  • You're right, i've heard a friend of mine play it only with the 16" reeds and it sounds nowhere near as good.... 32" is great. Never heard the 64", but I can imagine it being very overwhelming and surreal!

    God I love this piece...

  • 32 might be fine, (especially in the ending,) but 64 would be relly exagerated/.

  • No think the 64' would be just ok ! It makes à deeeeeep sound ! It's great to feel this sound !

  • Where on earth did you hear a 64' reed? Sydney Town Hall's got the only 64' reed in the world! It would be amazing to hear in person, but flying halfway around the world it a bit restrictive at this time. Even a digital 64' reed would be magnificent. Over the top...but magnificent just to hear.

  • Secondo il mio modesto parere, è in assoluto la miglior esecuzione della Toccata su tutto YouTube.

    Complimenti!

    P.S. Ho anche il DVD...

  • D'accordo! Era fntastico!

  • Comment removed

  • no, you're wrong

  • 2:24

  • Were you using a Double Ophecleide for the 32' reed?

  • That's exactly what I tought! Reminds me of a Harrison & Harrison 32' :-)

  • AWSOME !! We play that song with our band at school !

  • It's very difficult to find a good performance of Suite Gothique, and I have to say this, like most others, has its flaws-it's too slow at the beginning. Otherwise, it comes across perfect, and he should be congratulated for a commendable job.

  • Only 35 when L.B. died... Who knows what may have been lost.

  • How trite of me. Please excuse. Late for bed...

  • While I understand your sentiment, the reality is we have lost nothing because we never had it after his death anyway.

  • Like Mozart, Schubert and Christ.

Maybe they'd said all they had to say...

  • what organ ?

  • Read the credits at the end.

  • Wow that was fantastic.

  • Do I detect a slight accelerando at around 2:50 or so? This performance certainly gets very exciting! Thanks again for posting it.

  • Whilst the piece does intensify, I think that was rhythmic instability rather than accelerando. But this is easily the best performance I've seen on youtube. I've yet to hear Latry playing it though!

  • Yes - very great excellence here!

  • pięknie...bardzo ładne wykonanie...takie coś to tylko podziwiać!!

  • The YouTube sound quality is horrid! I'm sure if I heard this live the hair on my neck would stand up.

  • Try adding &fmt=18 at the end of the url, then reload. It gives rather good stereo sound and video in mp4 format.

  • Wonderful performance!!!!!!

  • Assolutamente Fantastico, mi ha fatto venire la pelle d' oca!

  • wonderfull! very good player!

  • BRILLIANT! Thanks for posting this! I liked the shot of his concentration at the beginning of the crescendo. It's always a worry point in this piece where real full concentration is required!

    Interesting organ. Where is it?

  • He was looking at the toe pistons.

  • Hi! No I don't think so . . . !

There are no registration changes in that section at 2:12 but it's the moment when there is full action without enough feet to man the swell pedals as well. One can sail through the rest of the piece but the crescendo passage and with differing mechanical patterns for the fingers is the height of stress!

  • Greatest performance. Thanks for positing. (ten stars!)

  • What a fantastic performance by Mr. Delacour! Another thing, it says toccata from "Suite Sothique" in the description witch sounds very nice but unfortunately is wrong! :)

  • Great interpretation!!! Wow!!!

  • Wow...just like listening to Keith Chapman play it on the wannamaker organ.

The organist is playing it like he is casually reading a book.

    Excellent!

  • This is a fantastic performance.

  • yes , this is by far the best verion on youtube -- ! ( I play this myself )

  • Record and share, especially if you do it on the Wanamaker ;)

    Justin

  • Maybe the best version on YouTube.

    Congratulations!!

  • In my opinion, you have taken number one spot on you tube. Well down.

    Justin

  • Oops... meant well DONE. :) It was late. :)

    Justin

  • Sorbole! (in italian: WOW!) Very good...

  • unbelievably good

  • Fantastic. Thanks for posting.

  • WOW!!!Wonderful!!!! I wish I could play this song like you :)

  • pretty good.. when i play this piece i play it alittle slower to give it more royalty and greatfulness and to really sink into the rythem.. I LOVE THE ENDING.. specialy the 32' in the pedal... i could feel the power through the computer... overall .. WONDERFUL!!!

  • no any mistakes!Amazing!Good Job!!!!!!!!!

  • How can this video only have a 3 star rating!!!??

  • Fortunately, now it has four stars and a half rating.

  • Very well done!!

  • Wonderful music! Thank you!

  • WOW! That was fantastic! I added that to my favorites!
