  • are parakeets nocturnal

  • @Chunky154557 not that I know of, but my birds will resume normal daytime activities if I turn on the lights at night so try a dimmer if that's what is happening.

  • Oh sooo very cute!

  • THANKS SO MUCH, MY ALEXANDRINE NEVER TALKED TO I REPLAYED YOUR VIDEOS BACK TO HIM, OVER AND OVER.. ITS AWSOME THANKS

  • Hey :D I had two Indian ringneck parrots before. They both died D: but I bought another one which is a female as it has no ring on its neck. I've had it for three months now. It makes noise and whistles at times but doesn't actually speak yet. How long did it take for yours to speak?

    Thank yew.. Johnny >:]

  • I WANT ONE! lol seriously I have fallen in love with indian ringnecks but they seem pretty uncommon. i can't find them in any local breeder. did you have to have yours shipped to you? if so, was it traumatic at all for the bird?

  • How are they as pets? Are they easy to handle?

  • how did u teach him how to talk?

  • Was i hearing an Owl in the background?

  • It was one of my doves

  • @MariaGarcia281 u own a dove

  • When an Indian Ringneck reaches the maturity stage do they bite alot or every now and then?

  • Did u get this hand reared?or did you tame it as baby?

  • What size cage do you have?? i am gonna get a ringneck and was wondering on cage size. Thanks

  • don't remember exact dimensions

just as long as it is roomy enough so their long tail won't get mangled as they move around inside

  • lol my ringneck loved this video..

she started trying to talk back to it. she cant talk (yet)

  • glad to hear it!

Birds like seeing their 'avian actors' on YouTube just like us :)

  • They're parakeets too? Wow, didn't know they came in such varieties. Beautiful bird. Love his voice.

  • I have a blue indian ringneck too:D

    he is so cute...

he is not hand fed but he eating from my hand and he ask me greediness..

    but I can't touch him:/

maybe I have to spend more time with him...:D

I know that someday he'll let me to touch him:P

    your bird is soooo cute...

    I love it!!!!!!!!!!(L)

  • He has his days too

Not always so cute - just like people

Generally, he is a 'good boy' though

I also think someday your bird will trust you more and begin the bonding phase

  • how much do they cost on average and do you know if you can get them in any other colors other than blue, green and yellow?

  • is he hand fed and how old was he when you got him. i got mine at age 2. wild. and all it does is bite me.

  • He was hand fed. I bonded with him as a hatchling/fledgling.

They say that with plently of patience, trust and time together - many birds as old as yours are capable of being tamed.

Mines has bluffed an unsuccessful bite attempt before... they will try and see how far they can cross the line (tamed or untamed)

  • my sister got hers, he was not handraised and was wild at first but now is very good & rules the house.

  • weeeeee *jumps* aww cute

  • wow he is lovely i have 2 one is just starting to get his black ring. how do you teach them to talk?? i cannot get mine to trust me to even look in my direction any advice??

  • Oh sorry, just noticed your message

If you have both ringnecks together, chances are they'll bond to each other more readily than to you (esp if they're the opposite sex)

But, as I always point out, there are always exceptions. Take a look at all the comments for this video, since many others have asked the same question. From time to time my bird appears to have a short attention span as well and won't look in my direction. But I also have learned to recognize when he wants solitude.

  • that is some beautiful bird!by the way how old is he?

  • He'll be 4 soon :)

  • Where he go?

Haha, he loves ringing that bell!

  • sweet :)

  • Beautiful bird ^^

  • thx - you can see him out of his cage & playing games on the other vid

  • So cute!!! :P

    Thank you!!

  • Haha my buddy has a bird just like him.

    He says 'rocknroll buddy'

And makes some kissing noises and says 'gimmie kisses'.

They're truely the cutest birds ever. :)

  • The kissing sounds my bird makes would only be recognizable by me, since he makes them sound pretty weird. Wonder why that is

  • ok...........

  • ay man good job with it,im thinkin of doing the same thing

  • absolutely beautiful birds! One of my favorites for sure. Birds are SO great.

  • ok, thx. ;)

  • Beautiful Parakeet. But i think its a parot isnt it ?

  • Sure sounds like one!

    It's an Indian Ringneck Parakeet

    :-)

  • ay how long did it take u to teach it to talk?

i have to baby parakeets(lovebirds)but im thinkin of buying an Indian Ringneck Parakeet

  • Please read comments below for different answers, thanks!

  • thanks hes already warmed up to me alot in one day he seems to be a very relaxed calm parkaeet.

  • they are pretty quiet the first week adjusting to a new environment - slowly the real personality comes out :-)

  • just picked up a yellow parakeet today, i realy hope i can get it talk like that some time. About how long does it take for them to realy warm up to you?

  • Depends on age, older ones may already be set in their ways

Males tend to be less anxious & more relaxed

Individual personality: not all birds grow up to be friendly/talkative

Depending on how much time you'll be spending w/your new feathered pet - could take a few weeks or longer :)

  • i love the "ohhh"

  • he hears me say it so much o.O

maybe he should start filming me

  • how long for a bird to it will take speak a single word?

  • Mines started imitating whistles and dove sounds at first & then graduated to speaking simple words like hello in about one month. But if you don't really talk to your bird on a regular basis, it may take longer. And not all birds will talk.

  • You can always add video as vid response if you have one to share!

  • Wow... Your parakeet sure is lovely, I like it especially he did the Weeee sound... So cute and sweet! Who knows maybe might second parrot to the family might turn out to be a ringneck parakeet!

  • Thx!

But your bird sure does some amazing tricks

You can also add Kiki's vid as a video response to this one so others can see it too!

    If you'd like

  • Thanks... I love to...

  • Done!

    :-)

  • parakeets are nice to look at we get wild parakeets were i live they look pretty when they perch on trees but very noisey and green

  • They are beautiful and naturally communicate with each other very loudly. I try to warn people about this before running out & buying one - especially the larger ones!

  • how big does a cage for an IRN have to be?

  • I don't think there's a general rule of thumb for size but just use common sense. I'd say roomy enough for playing & moving around inside. Mines is approx. 5 feet by 3 feet, plus he gets a lot of outside playtime during the day.

  • his ring iz amazin

  • Wonderful bird! This made my day!5 stars for you!

  • He says thank you!

See him playing games with roomies outside cage - newer video

  • I wish my Ring-neck could do that, but, unfortunately, its a female and I've heard they can't really speak.

But she has an attitude and loves to play, and bite your fingers off.

  • that is amazing its adorable

  • that is great !!

    he is awsome !!

  • Now I'll need to teach him how to say "Thank You" to all his fans

    ;)

  • I mean, now that she has eggs inside her!

\they have had eggs before but this is the the first time we have bred ringnecks

so what i meant to say was

once they have mated, how long will it take untill the egg is layed

    soz for the misunderstanding!

  • Oh, sorry!

Once they mate, the hen (female) will usually lay eggs within a day or two after mating until the clutch is complete. That may be 3-6 eggs. Each egg is fertilized individually - meaning that each egg is fertilized on a separate day so that the chicks will differ in age by a day. Since only one egg can be laid per day.

So by now, you should notice the female withdrawn into the nest if breeding was successful!

  • Yep, lovely bird. How much attention do you have to give him? How long can you leave him on his own before he gets upset?

  • Daily interaction needed

When I'm away at work, my ringneck is never really alone since he shares a bird room with many other birds! But I've read that they may begin plucking out their own feathers or just scream for attention and take on a destructive behavior pattern.

  • I cannot believe how lucky my family is. we recently got two breeding pair of ringnecks, one (the girl) is called Alpana (its indian for beautiful) and shes yellow, the boy is green and is called Anshul (which means radiant) and they live in an outside avairy near my dog; Foolish1

now they have learnt how to bark!

any idea how long it will take before Alpana lays her eggs?

    any help appreciatted!

  • Now you have 3 barking dogs?

Most female birds of any species will begin laying eggs when sexually mature - regardless if they have been fertilized or not. It helps if you know how old they both are. My male ringneck grew the black ring, which signifies adulthood, when he was over 2 years old.

  • I love the colour of your bird! :D

  • that is one beautiful bird. i am actually thinking of getting a ringneck in the next year or so. they are my favorite type of parrot. truely outstanding

  • Absolutely amazing, I have spent all my life with birds and I can tell you one tihng:

You have a very happy, healthy parrot there

Great job! how old is he?

  • Thanks so much!

    He's 3.5 yrs old

  • What a beautiful, smart bird. : ) The colors are brilliant.

  • thx - his daily routine enables him to catch the sun's rays which intensifies his color :)

  • Very interesting. What would you say about a budgie and ringneck. I knew two that lived together, and the ringneck even made budgie sounds later.

Your bird is so lovely - the colour is unbelievable! Very clear talking. Adorable!

  • That would have to be at your own discretion - the only instance I know of is when these two types of birds were brought up together as babies and learned each others vocalizations (very cute). Even so, the major size difference alone is something to think about. All animals are unpredictable & things can take a turn in the blink of an eye (undoubtedly, a budgie would be no match against a ringneck). Thanks for your comment :)

  • We had a ringneck with pheasants which were three times his size. The ringneck nearly killed one. They are very aggressive to other birds.

  • Hooked beak birds should NEVER share living spaces together with birds that do not have a hooked beak. The angled curvature of this type of beak is much stronger & used for crushing nuts (and severing objects as well). Unfortunately, it doesn't have to be food & can be used as self-defense.

  • let her out of the cage and talk ;)

  • She's a he

Since he likes to go on my shoulder - it is impossible to videotape in that setting!

  • HELP!!

i have cockatiel , and i was wondering would i be able to get a ringneck and keep it in the same cage , anyone know ?? and wat are these birds like ?? would i have to stay at home all day with them ??

  • Compatibility is what comes to mind. Ringnecks are much bigger & stronger than cockatiels. Not to mention loudness. If you haven't already read all the comments for this video, I strongly suggest you do so. Many similar questions & other issues have already been discussed which you may find useful ;-)

Above all - Ringnecks should be kept separate from all your other birds.

  • SO cute!

  • could i keep a ringneck in the same cage a a parrotlet?

  • Ringnecks are pretty big & require a large cage for themselves.

Honestly, I've never seen these two types of birds sharing a cage. It might be a different story if they were raised together at a young age. However, if things should get out of hand when you're not around, the Ringneck may inflict serious harm (or vice versa) with its powerful hooked beak. I have heard horrible stories of birds amputating the legs of unfortunate cagemates and had to be put to sleep.

  • I definitely would not keep a ringneck and a parrotlet in the same cage. They both need different perches/toys/bar spacing due to their MAJOR size difference, and the larger toys/perches/etc. will be unsafe for the parrotlet (not to mention the obvious danger from the larger bird). Parrotlets are also quite territorial. While you may have a calm ringneck, the parrotlet will most likely start something he cannot finish safely.

  • Never saw a parakeet this big!I love it's colors.

  • thanks alot but do u know if they have any differences as pets like lifespans, talking ability, and bonding. and a question just about about the ringnecks how much time do u spend with it each day, actually talking with it, or training it? and if i were doing homework could i put a well bonded bird on my shoulder, or would it demand atention? awesome bird how long have u had him? sry about all the questions thanks for being so helpful.

  • Oh, I wasn't sure about the specifics of your 1st question

As far as I'm aware of, they both have similar lifespans and vocal abilities. For many parakeet species, the amount of time spent bonding with your bird (out of cage time) and interacting together, whether it's exploring new toys, places or situations, is what defines behavior now or in the future. I've seen birds on students shoulders while doing homework, and they will demand attention!

  • can u explain the major differences of quakers and ringnecks other that looks?

  • 1. They are a different species

    2. It is illegal to own quakers in some states

    3. Quakers origin is South America

    4. Quakers are smaller than ringnecks

    5. I don't believe there are color mutations for quakers yet

  • oh, there is a blue mutation quaker parakeet. they are very pretty! nice vid! oh, i let my cockatiels and budgie stay in the same cage and there is no problems. I was thinking of getting a ringneck..they look like great birds!

  • Thanks for that

Keep in mind that a ringneck is much louder than those two combined ;-)

  • budgie and parakeet is good combo... hey, isn't there also an amazon blue mutation

  • Looks and sounds happy and healthy!

  • Aww damn! I just got a little 5 month old yellow parakeet... and well though its far from talking, atleast it's comfortable with sitting on our fingers and shoudlers and doesnt panic everytime someone puts a hand inside its cage.. hope it talks some day!!

  • That's a great start!

  • aww...how cute!

  • omg he is or she is ADORABLEE i want she / he haah =D haha

  • Aaaaw, sooooo cute! How long it takes to learn him to speak?

  • AMAZING!!!

    very cute

  • wow LOL cute bird

  • did ur IRN go through bluffing? how long did it take?

  • Yeah, I think it may be part of an instinctive mating ritual. And they may also be trying out their intimidation tactics. Or who knows, could all just be part of showing off and being playful!

  • i have a green redneck parakeet and he doesnt talk or nuthin ive had him bout a month and a half and can u tell me whats the best way to make him talk or even let me hold him hes about 1 years old

  • Again, consult with an expert first.

I had mine since he was a baby. I watched him grow from a helpless baby to adulthood. Needless to say, my bonding was very different than your experience. Given a lot of time together and patience (at any age), gradually you'll both feel comfortable with each other.

  • Thanks.

  • You're welcome & good luck!

  • wow he's goregeous, I always like the bright cloured ones, We had one but she was very territorial and bitey and miserable, so we gave her to someone else

  • Thanks:)

Personally, I think females of any species tend to be more guarded, defensive & nervous. Without those characteristics, babies wouldn't stand a chance in the world!

  • I have a Baby Indian ringneck and he is green but i do not know if he is a male or a female how do u distinguish them?

  • Remember, you could also ask the pet shop where you bought your bird. There is an expensive way to find out - DNA testing. Or you could simply wait until your bird reaches sexual maturity. In my case, his black ringneck started showing at around 2.5 years old. Girls don't grow a black ringneck.

  • Hello. I have a question about indian ringnecks. im about to get a parakeet and i asked a lady at my pet store about them. she says not to get one. shes says the too independent. is that true?

  • Have you seen all those videos on YouTube with Indian Ringneck pet owners? You'll find differences in behavior & personalities. Just like any other animal.

;-) Just don't forget they are very loud birds when socializing in their own language!

  • i have a parakeet he's pretty small and uhh do u know whats the best way to get them to talk?

  • Take a look at the previous comment

  • Hi, great bird i am gettin one shortly just a quik qeustion how young do they have to be to learn to talk and are they most likely going to learn to talk? James Sinclair

  • Thanks for the comment. You should consult a bird expert first. I can only share my experience. I hope you read the comment/warning I posted before yours! My bird started talking at about 5 or 6 months old (simple words only - no phrases). The more you interact with them, the more likely it is they will learn to talk, no guarantees in life though! Good luck.

  • Thanks. He's just an average sized male ringneck. I've been trying to warn people about their naturally loud social calling! They might look cute when they are speaking our tongue - but once they click back to their own tongue, watch out! I don't train mine to do anything, so I can't help you there. I talk to him-that's how he has picked up some 'human language' skills. When he wants to eat something I'm eating, he turns on the 'charm' and asks sweetly (now that, he learned on his own!)

  • do they grow that big or is the camera just close up...

i luv ur ringneck... i got a lutino 1 and hes a nitemare even with cliped wings... his name is Jaws... only just got him a few months ago and still dont no all the tricks of training them...

  • They might go hand-in-hand

  • Isn't the Alexandine the largest parakeet species?

  • What a BEAUTIFUL blue ringneck! I love them, they're so sweet, affectionate, and smart. My own yellow ringneck just passed away last Sunday of unknown causes. I miss her so much, but I still love watching videos of ringnecks and other birds. Does your bird imitate the doves' cooing too?

  • Sorry to hear that.

At one point, my bird would mimic every single sound he was exposed to. Now, he has become more selective in his choice of phrases/sounds! I think it comes with age.

  • What a pretty bird! I love Indian Ringnecks, they have the sweetest voices!

  • he has a funny voice but hes very cute

  • nasal type sound : )

  • you should get a yelow one they are so beutiful but your blue one is beutifull even more if you have any on sale can you please infrom me

  • Initially, I had thought of purchasing a yellow ringneck. Since I already had yellow canaries, I chose my blue bird. Currently, I only have Gouldian finches & dwarf diamond doves for sale, sorry.

  • how much are your diamond doves i have doves too but they are ringneck doves i would like some diamond doves they are cool thanks can you please email me again thanks again p.s. pigeons rule

  • your bird is beautiful and whats the price range on a Indian Ringneck Parakeet.

  • Oh, thank you! In San Diego, they range from $150-$350. Coloration (mutations), age, hand-fed, and area are a few factors affecting pricing. Don't forget they are naturally loud birds, too.

  • So cute! We're thinking about getting one. Are they cuddly birds?

  • If you spend a lot of time together they can bond

One word of caution: they can get pretty loud at times & if you live in an apartment setting, neighbors might complain. I can hear my bird calling half a block away - and that's with all the windows closed!

  • I don't know much about them, but I heard they're fun!

  • how cute!

  • Amazing video. Birds are very smart animals!!

  • Thanks - he was being modest/shy while under the 'spotlight'. His vocabulary includes many more words/phrases & whistles/sounds.

  • I bet he's a great flyer.

  • He's both a happy loud bird and an excellent flyer : )

  • seems like a happy bird!

  • He is beautiful!

  • Thanks - these birds are also quite smart. Attaining the intelligence of a 5-year-old human!
