Brian say's in one of his recent interviws, that probably Freddie did know in '86 about his illness and what will be happing, and he told John after Knebworth'86, that "this is the last tour, last concert", not exactly those words, but with the same sense....so let's say Brian confirms that Freddie did know on '86, so he was aware about the fact that those were the last concerts with him vocalist! :(
i think innuendo was a good way to end their records. (I know made in heaven, but freddie wasn't with them to make it) Anyways, ya It was just so magical and epic. The music videos were all really good too. They definitly gave it their all.
Brian and Roger did this ad nauseum I think...all throughout their Innuendo promotion - and I think Brian did a HUGE chunk of the diplomatic answers because he was the one promoting Innuendo while These Are the Days of Our Lives was being shot. To this day, both of them don't regret what they'd done: they did it because they cared for Freddie and hating what the press had done to him already. Besides being amazing musicians, Brian, Roger, Deaky and Freddie were amazing people as well :)
Brian May's answer was classy considering you could tell what he really wanted to say: "Freddie wants to drop dead composing another album instead of on stage in front of tens of thousands!" Gotta have much respect for a man that doesn't want to put the rest of his crew and the fans through such a financial and public relations hell of having to cancel a tour, issue refunds, etc. No exec at Parlophone or Hollywood records would've signed off on a tour anyway ...
At least Roger said the album was a happy making process and that's good because I've heard Dr.May say they all knew "Freddie would not be on the planet for very long" ( Dr. May's words not mines).
aww that was so sad when it said: will freddie tour? brians a great friend. the real question they should have asked was why wasn't freddie at the party.
The thing is Freddie was as we know incredibly private and did not want pity from the fans meaning that he didn't want people to buy 'Innuendo' out of sympathy but for the reason that it was a new album.
Innuendo would have been fantastic live but we will never know sadly :(
why does Brian lie? Why does he say things may change about touring? it would have been better if hed just said: 'well never tour again, Freddies dying'. Why denying something that everybody knew was coming?
@teo2712 -i agree with you there, personally i think freddie was in denial that he caught this dreadful infection, personally i think he should admitted earlier and put a face to it like rock hudson did,i dont belive in this taboo rubbish about the illness back then,i think it was denial pure and simple, and im sure it upsetted brian and rodger to pretend everything was normal
@tiger5455 I was there...It was a career death sentence to admit that you had AIDS, let alone admit you were gay!! Had he admitted it when he discovered that he contracted it then we wouldn't have much of the brilliance of of last works. He wanted to work...he was dying and that was his choice, he owed it to NO ONE to come out with it! The ONLY thing that upset Brian and Roger was that their friend was dying, in a later interview they said they would have gladly done ANYTHING to protect Freddy!
@TheSHEERHEARTATTACK Again he didn't die from any illness based on anything. I suggest you go and read the facts about AIDS and HIV before you go around called being retards. Then again, you've used the word retard, so I apologise that your intellect isn't up to scratch to deal with such terms and facts.
haa he doesnt want to... all the world did know freddie's attitude why wouldn't he liked to tour. I think those were the things like clues to what people thought at that time that he had aids...
oh I really don't think Freddie had the strength for any kind of touring anymore. so it wasn't really a question of secrecy or anything at that point.
@mercedesE320fan You are on point with everything you said. When I read info on Freddie I just think that he was infected with HIV early 80's or like you said mid 80's. Since Freddie died from Pneumonia as a result of having AID's (it's stated that way on his death certificate) I've been reading about it a little and I also watched a video on AID's it was a great video, because it was at a medical convention for Doctors.
@mercedesE320fan Didn't know about the tour plans, After seeing the I want it all video I always felt that was going to be their theme for that tour had it happened, New lights, New outfits, Freddie in a shirt and tie! lol...I thought Freddie didn't realize he was ill until 1987 because of a lesion on his shoulder, he had it tested and it came back as KS. I understand he had full blown AIDS at that point, but thought he had just learned he was sick. He seemed pretty healthy during the Magic tour
@mojorisen74 I wouldn't say Freddie was only aware he had aids in 1987. There are many weird things, first off, Queen stopped touring because Freddie didn't want to tour anymore, and why? Because he considered himself "old", was getting tired and I remember Brian saying that Freddie told him that his body was acking shortly before their Magic tour concert in Spain. And also, he stopped partying and stopped sleeping with random men, isn't that weird, I believe Freddie suspected he was ill
@TheJumpyPopcorn What we need to also consider is that he got himself tested at some point a few years earlier, and the test came back negative. The jolt of realising that he COULD have been in danger was enough for him to cut back on his racy lifestyle, but I guess - as you said - by 1986 he already started suspecting that something was wrong. 1987 was when he took his second test and got it confirmed, by which time it clearly WAS full-blown AIDS.
@PrettyPleaseWith I believe he got tested for HIV in 1984 and it came back negative but many believe that he already had the virus back then, but HIV/AIDS can live on someone's body and fool tests for a few years, so it's irrelevant the fact that it came out negative then. He was promiscuous but we know nothing to judge him. I remember seeing a 1986 article talking about his "strange paleness" noticed during the Magic Tour, and the media was already sugesting that he had AIDS in 86, not 87.
@PrettyPleaseWith I believe he got tested for HIV in 1984 and it came back negative but many believe that he already had the virus back then, but HIV/AIDS can live on someone's body and fool tests for a few years, so it's irrelevant the fact that it came out negative then. @TheJumpyPopcorn It is rather obvious, yes, that he must have already had the virus at least by 84 if not earlier. But what's in question here is when exactly he KNEW for sure about the virus: and that was definitely in 1987 when he spotted the Sarcoma and got himself tested again. Not judging him on the basis of his lifestyle either, but you have to admit that the previous test did leave him aware of the dangers of unprotected sex - there's an interview where he talks of living like a nun.
@TheJumpyPopcorn The media had been targetting him regarding HIV for quite some time by then, but the test for sure was in 87, and it was the detection of the lesions that had brought it on. Until then I daresay Freddie had his doubts but hadn't wanted to confirm them. Considering that two men Freddie knew had been reported by the press as dying of AIDS, it would not be too far a leap for the same press to see Freddie as probably suffering too.

@cantonaorey Yes, back in 1987. It was because of kaposis' sarcoma spots on his back that he told John he had AIDS

In 88, There was transparent plans to Tour, The Miracle tour 89.
Freddie agreed to go on tour for 6 months.
Then his condition got worse & his doctor strongly suggested not too.
Freddie then grasped what was going on, from about 1984 it was estimated when the AIDs started to develop in him, then 85 or early 86 it activated.
Not in late 87 as people say.
He was ill on the Magic Tour, his decision was too take steroids too compensate for the weightloss(Vommiting&diorreha).
mercedesE320fan 2 years ago
Too add, Freddie was actually putting on a very small amount of weight in 1991.
But he then got a chest infection & this resulted in Pneumonia.
If he wouldn't of got Pneumonia, he still would have passed around December.
He had various cancers brain, lungs, etc.
He also stopped medication 3 weeks before he died.
The medication actually killed non-infected cells as well as AIDs infected ones.
Technically he should of died in 1988, but unbelievably he lasted 3 years on off His max life expectancy.
