DLC can sometimes be a good thing such as with racing tracks, more quests, or extra costumes; however, I would rather unlock things through my own merit. It seems that DLC caters to the "lazy gamer". For example, in Soul Calibur IV one could beat the story mode with every character and build up enough of the in-game currency (gold) to receive each character's ultimate and gag weapons; however, these could also be purchased in the online store.

I agree with you. DLC was a good idea but as you said, you never unlock things these days. It has removed much of the fun from the core game knowing that more is coming, and possibly more... and more. Plus obviously they charge. I miss the days where you paid once. I do think some DLC is ok though. Say you have played CoD 8 to death but still enjoy it. Well then the DLC will pump some life back into it for you. All the silly stuff like TF2 hats can get lost. Make them unlockables not payables.

If the dlc for mk7 is just newer characters they couldnt be bothered to add in at the start i probably wouldnt buy it but if it wa a whole new cup or set of maps I'm OK with it. it would also be pretty cool if they gave you a taste of the first map in add on cups or something. i Would suspect that the DLC for super mario 3d land are just new worlds and hopefully a return of some of the other items from smb3 in those worlds

$60 for a game is expensive but i still do it, but i wont do extra $ for a DLC that should have been included in the game. developers have DLC come out for a game that has barely been out for three months. The only DLC that i get excited for now are Bethesda games because it gives you more than a bonus map etc... they give you an entire new sub-game. That is worth it.

I like good DLC. If it adds to the game in a major way like adding a new campaign it's fine by me. But if it's just a map pack or a skin pack i don't see any justifiable way of charging you 15 dollars for a couple maps or a skin. Bethesda usually makes pretty good dlc, CoD usually makes bad DLC.

DLC's have to be cheap (< $5) or add 10+ hours to cost more than $5 imo. short missions, skins, etc., SHOULD cost UNDER a dollar. things like COD DLCs are still retardedly overpriced and are destroying what Downloadable Content should be. Maps are just skins and textures not so much Content. DLCs imho should be extra story missions, alternate endings, badass shit to get ppl to play the game again.

Here is how I look at DLC. DLC should be if they wanted to add something they couldn't during release date. There should always be secrets easter eggs and finding collectables should unlock Single player Cheats for the fun.

DLC is only okay in two situations:

1) The game was released as a budget title, and small cheap DLC is released (eg Dungeon Defenders)

or

2) It's a proper expansion, or it adds enough to the game to make it worthwhile. Obvious examples are Shivering Isles and the Fallout DLC's.

Don't even get me started on "Retailer Exclusives".

But yeah I would get the MK7 stuff if it added whole new cups or something, but there is no way in hell I will pay more than £5 for it.
