Most of the xbox problems I am seeing are bad solder joints due to overheating from normal use. Repairing a cold or fractured solder joint by overheating as this video suggests or by the blanket method that you may see others suggest are a short term fix. At best the unit will work for a couple of days to a couple of weeks. It's best to reflow the mother board with a heat gun and then use a high quality thermal paste. Ensure xbox has the best possible circulation. Not on carpet or in cabinet

ok every video says "at the end if it doesnt work unclip fan and leave it on" hasnt anyone realized there over heating it without a towel???? over heating it always works even if it takes 2-3 trys in a day it works and sometimes works for a long while make sure your xbox is clean and do it with a damp towel so new dirty isnt contracted inside also good to use a hover on your xbox everyday and there will be mornings it wont work again just dont panic rap it back up and leave it for a hour or so

According the Arctic Silver's web instructions, you should NEVER use your fingers to spread the paste. Oils from your fingers can cause problems, etc. Also, overheating your box like this can damage it. It may work a while but will eventually quit & even a competent repairmen might not be able to repair it. The bolts & washers on the xclamps is not a good idea either. It defeats the purpose of the center support of the xclamps.

@HGCGamersClub permanent damage is doubtful. In my experience even ms can't keep these thing running for longer than a year(if used daily). Short of a reball with leaded solder all repairs will last up to 2 years(being a small percentage) most less than a year. Reballs are cost prohibitive considering a good used 360 will set you back less than 100 bucks, especially w/o hookups. Because of this we offer free out of warranty motherboard repairs and are using Zephyrtronics machines to do it.

@Xbox360modderzZ I didn't follow this tutorial exactly. But I did the bolt/nut and nylon washers. After four hours and driving 30 mins in 100 degree car with no AC to get the bolts. Believe me when I say I tried all aspects of tightness. I even tried it with the heatsinks just sitting on the processors. I also used Arctic Silver thermal compound.

@felinvrr2 Absolutely not. The thermal paste is important, it spreads the heat evenly to the heatsink. If you don't use paste, you risk further damaging your Xbox through overheating.

@Samissoawsome Your screws are too tight or you dont have enough washers. On the side of the heat sinks add one steel washer on top of the nylon but DO NOT let the steel washer touch the circuit board. hope that helps.

I've done the X-Clamp, applied AS5, put heatsinks on the RAM and HANA and a Core Cooler in between the CPU heatsink and DVD drive and it still red rings again after a few days.

I'd rather hear other opinions about what I haven't done first before I use that as an option. FYI - I have drilled through the case to use long bolts with 3 metal and 1 nylon on the bottom and 1 metal and 1 nylon on the top.

@AnimayeIsGaye I'm gonna get some flux and a heat gun. Another video that I watched claimed that the solder joints under the gpu are getting old and showing signs of oxidation and causing excess heat. Flux and heat liquefy the solder joints and makes it possible to rebond the gpu to the mobo.

But still plays fine boots up but just keeps blinking red on 3 of them.

But when I play my games they work and I can play them but theres like Grey lines all over in curtain spot on the levels on like every game I try.

But movies work fine!
