@Guichotpresident Good idea to close your eyes for this video!:-) I did and it sounds just fantastic! Still the main thing in singing is singing, and I like his singing very much, so I can forgive him this dress!:-) But I'd like those in charge of productions to read too what fans think and not experiment with weir stuff that much. Unfortunately, singers depend on the producers and can't impose their own conditions... Oh well. I still can hear great singing through this werd form. Can you?:-)
I have to agree with some of you that...the dress is definitely not "required" for this role. But at the same time, Prince Orlofsky was the role and the role was male, so no, finding a female would have been a replacement.
In regards to the dress....I've seen weirder productions than this, how about..... Elixir of Life (with the male tenor role casted to a Mezzo-Female.......)
@twong86 I agree. It was long ago, and since then I've also seen weirder productions than this. Though I would still prefer to see Cencic dressed as a man. On the other hand , the main thing here is singing. Cencic is great! Bravo! No weird production can spoil his voice. And on the contrary, even the best production and costume possible can't help a poor voice to shine...
What a weird production! Wouldn't it just be easier to find a suitable female singer than to dress an excellent countertenor like that! I prefer Kowalski's Orlofsky. No doubt about it. But I still like Cencic's voice very much. Perhaps someday we'll see him in a more appropriate production?!
Actually, one month later it doesn't look to me that weird any more. I'm trying to be flexible. His voice is great! It's the main thing. If it's not Sant'Alessio or something like that I would still prefer to see a production where he is dressed as a man.
Hahahahaha, cool idea! :) This is also some amazing singing (as it is always the case with Cencic, of course), but I still preffer Malena Ernman in this particular role...
This is so bizarre! Amazing voice, but its funny because its a male role written for a woman, a woman ususally plays it and dresses up as a man, but finally when they find a man to play the womens role that is actually a male role, the male playing the male role dresses up as a woman! What is going on! I dont think i like it played as Princess Orlofsky. My opinion!
I think I agree... I'm beginning to train as a sopranist like cencic but I don't think I would ever agree to dress in drag for a performance... Jaroussky did the same thing when he played La Speranza and I didn't like it then and I don't like it now
It's really easy it's just :
A male role written for a female sung by a male dressed as a female.
Hard as hell aria wearing a dress or not!

I don't think, that it is a good idea for the public, that hear countertenor at the first time. But here it looks great!
A man in a woman dress is the same as a women in male role. It is normally for nowadays. I'd be proud, if somebody could engage me for female role.
