You still get XP in Black Ops, that's how you rank up and unlock certain categories at which point you use your COD points to purchase guns/attachments/ killstreaks.

You still have to go to the level and unlock the gun for purchase and then you can purchase the gun, so it is just that you can choose to not buy the gun if you don't like it.

you've got it wrong. you can only buy the weapons when you are the correct lvl for it. for example: say the ak-47 is unlocked at lvl 45, you'd have to get to that lvl, then get enough money to buy it.

You have black ops wrong. You still have to rank up, but you also have to buy it. So if it was in mw2. I'd have to rank to 70, and but the ak if i wanted it.
