@garyboy46 and twist3dh3at: there are LOTS of Virgin Islanders who can speak both regular American English and the local dialect. It has nothing to do with Tim adapting to "America". First of all, the Virgin Islands is part of The US. Virgin Islanders are not foreigners to the United States. And as I said, there are lots of us who speak both ways. I was born and raised there and my natural way of speaking is standard American English with no Caribbean accent and I can also speak Crucian/Cruza
@dearleslie2 None of my friends spoke in Crucian accent growing up on island. They could turn it on when needed, but as a natural way of speaking, no. I went to St. D, then later Good Hope.
randulph lochart my old school i miss home i rember mss lockhart yellin at me i rember gym or lunch on that cory or sports on the fiel look @ the big jo jo tree i miss home im from stx proud ov my home
@garyboy46 because he lives in america now and adapted to his surroundings. i dated a guy from st. thomas USVI and he spoke w/ an american accent around us "yankees" but spoke in his VI accent when around other caribbean people. same w/ him.
@garyboy46 Because many educated locals, particularly those that leave and even those still living on the island can turn the local dialect on and off at will. (I am in NO WAY insinuating that folks with the accent are not educated.) But going to schools like Country Day and St. D, well, you learn how to speak with excellent articulation (whether you choose to use it or not). Tim, apparently, has chosen to use it.
@garyboy46 Because he spent must of his time in the mainland of USA. I was the 1st person in my family to be born in America (the rest are all from Jamaica) and I also speak like that. Where is my family talks with an accent.
I attended the St. Croix Educational Complex HS whose gym was named after Tim Duncan. It would be wonderful if he would use his status as a platform to promote his home town more. But he is low key as far as NBA players go so Im not suprised with the lack of publicity the St Croix gets from him. For that reason alot of Crucians think he is a sell out.
St. Croix Is my favorite place on Earth! Not because i'm from San Antonio and not because I'm a Spurs fan, because I'm not! I love St. Croix! If I ever met Tim, I would not talk to him about the Spurs or the championship, but about what a great home he came from!
He seems to be a respectable cruzan man. Humble...and thats cool. Some people make it big and their head get all blown up. I hope he continues to do well and keeps his head on his shoulders. God bless!

@garyboy46 That's what I would like to know too.
Tim Duncan is so very humble, more players should be him.
