  • mind = blown

  • What is the name of the instrument that sounds like an owl "hoot" around 0:21?

  • @jaientenduunevoix726 i believe that's a cuica.

  • @slashercj thanks

  • First listen: What the hell is this

Third listen: Okay I guess I like it

Fifth listen: I just heard the voice of god

Don't listen to this song once and then forego it; it's worth more than one listen.

  • #hoot

  • i want this song to fuck me!!!!

  • And why does the use of autotune remind you of Kanye's last album? Because Bon Iver produced and performed on nigh on all the album.

  • LOVE <3

  • the use of autotune reminds me of one of kanye west's songs on his last album.

  • AN ENTIRE ALBUM PLEASE

  • omg this is amazing... my day is complete :)

  • if you are in a bad headspace then the minor chords can be overwhelming and dark but man, it's only music and toward the end it turns from gray to white and it's epic.. if you want to really see the dark side and question everything, listen to the latest radiohead song called "lotus flower" then burial ft thom york (radiohead) track is called "ego".. if you survive it, playing this or the latest j-lo hit will feel a lot better but you'll feel guilty because you just discovered music...

  • Everyone that likes this song must be a mentally retarded person. It sounds like a CD that is skipping. It is absolutely 100% not music given the fact there is no distinguishable beat, any instrument being played is distorted beyond recognition, and his falsetto is the shittiest excuse for falsetto I have ever heard. I am from Justin Vernon's hometown of Eau Claire and I have to say I am ashamed this is the turd my great city shit out. Blow it out your ass you hipster fucks.

  • @connollypm1 i feel so sorry for you.. you have no soul...

  • @connollypm1 you cant find the beat? i bet you cant find the hole either, virgin.

  • @NoahHoe HAHAHAHAHAHA Thanks for the flashback to 6th grade. Pull your head out of your ass.

  • @connollypm1 how can you not decipher a distinguishable beat in this?

  • @sariloco2038 There is not even really any discernible lyrics. I mean maybe a person could pick some words out if you looked them up but come on really? Its like bon iver is one giant practical joke. Best album? What are you talking about????? Oh and fall creek (the town) sucks pretty bad. Not sure why anyone, even a mentally challenged person like Justin Vernon, would write a song involving it.

  • @connollypm1 sorry man

  • @connollypm1 Hmmm, I'd be interested to hear what your idea of good music is.

  • just the feel of the song, doesn't even matter what the fuck is coming out of his mouth, it's the undertone of the words that make this songs so dam addictive

  • This is not enjoyable at all.

  • @fibreoptik Why do you think so?

  • @b34r54n3

I can't quite put my finger on it. I respect both of these artists greatly, especially Bon Iver, but there is just something about this that rubs me the wrong way.

  • @fibreoptik You're definitely not the only one who thinks so considering the comments. I'm glad Justin's branching out though, it gives auto-tune a good name as opposed to where it's been in the past.

  • @b34r54n3

I think I may have developed an allergy to auto-tune, which may be the source of the problem... Not too sure how to remedy it though. I think I might be too far gone lol. Just really don't like the sound of it at all any more. Never did actually. Just tolerated it before. Now I cannot tolerate it at all.

  • I'm stoned.

  • don't even mind what he's saying, this song is sex

  • You've got to love this, uploaded by jamesblakeproduction on 24 aug, my birthday.

    I dont believe in coincidence.

  • <3

  • this is a master demonstration of how to use autotune/vocoder as an aesthetic appeal rather than to hide a technical deficiency

  • @bufo604 I would like to see T-Pain fans giving a comeback to this. 'Cause they wouldn't have s*** to say!

  • listen to it with the headphones

  • This is modern art; it isn't to everybody's taste, but you should respect its new and different musical style.

  • @tremanrolls679 that is not how modern art works & is a terrible thing to say but regardless this song is great

  • dont really like james blake but this song rules

  • this is pop rocks for your ears!

  • @paniccat UMAD

  • @paniccat bullshit

  • @paniccat Your gayer than Ellen.

  • amazing

  • I LOVE how Bon Iver uses autotune. Ooh. This gives me goosebumps.

  • Oh my god Bon Iver, I love you so much.

  • i love this so much.

  • this made my day. my two favourite artists made a song together. and i fucking love it.

  • If you think this is good, allow me to make some friendly advice: Pitchfork Media does not provide a relevant or accurate source from which to glean your taste in music.

  • @MIKEPEARTNOY gtfo

this is the best 2 pattern fruityloops song you will EVER HEAR

  • @MIKEPEARTNOY umad?

  • @MIKEPEARTNOY Who says anyone here bases his/her tastes of music on Pitchfork? It's not impossible to appreciate and/or enjoy indie without basing it on Pitchfork, you know.

  • @MIKEPEARTNOY actually pitchfork didn't like this song from memory.

  • @MIKEPEARTNOY I seriously wonder where people like you get their animosity. Like what the fuck happened to you as a child that made you a miserable human being?

  • The two biggest dweebs Pitchfork masturbates over to today merging to unleash an unholy duality of hipster onslaught.

  • @MasterExploder61 Go get raped by a cactus.

  • @RobbieIsAJew Not possible. Cacti are incapable of movement.

  • @MasterExploder61 I'm sure you'll find a way.

  • @RobbieIsAJew Why would I want to find a way to humiliate myself? You sound silly.

  • @MasterExploder61 However, it is good music.

  • @gloriouscamisado No it isn't.

  • why is this song so cool ?

  • why is "Chelsea's Water Birth" a related video to this?

  • James Blake and Bon Iver on one track? Yes please.

  • i'VE DIED AND GONE TO HEAVEN LISTENNG TO THIS MUSIC

  • This is so damn beautiful!

  • one of the best duos i heard last times..so strange and so beautiful at the same time..they just complete they self

  • OH GOD. WOW. Play this and "Wolves I & II" at the same time both from the beginning...

  • At about 1:18 of this, go play "Wash." off of Bon Iver's album. Play around with the timing. It turns into amazing-ness.

  • omigoodness i was just thinking that they should make a song together...and here we are! made my night :D

  • I'm sorry, I love both of these artists, but this track remnds me of Jason Derulo or something.. lol

  • really good, considerate to make an album together :D

  • On any other youtube video you will find people fighting about different things mostly non-related to the music. But when you come here you find everyone discussing and collaborating. I'm glad we can all agree on good music.

  • I know that in most of his tracks(James Blake) He combines auto-tune and vocoder at the same time. I can't say for this song though because I don't personally know the guy and don't have the ability to ask him. Just saying it doesn't really matter. It's kinda the same as asking what kind of paint brush your mom used to paint the bathroom. Unless you are interested in achieving a similar sound on your own music projects don't worry about it.

  • i don't feel like i've ever heard anything more beautiful. where has this been all my life?

  • @sweetsangria6 what are you smoking?

  • Music has reached a point where we are creating new art from the samples of others in tandem with our own. The only way to be innovative now is to go back and play with the knowledge and theory others have already acquired for us in a modern context, breaking a lot of rules along the way because we are experimenting. Don't follow this music because it's new and cool, do it because you want music to evolve forever so we always have fresh beats.

Anyone who likes fresh beats flash some thumbs.

  • yes great to have justin, but james' voice is so fantastic itself.

  • All the side sound effects are getting to me.

  • @swainej i hear that

  • it not autotune you numpties

  • @itsinmynamechap It is auto-tune. At least, I can get this EXACT sound with an auto-tune plguin to my DAW. Care to explain WHAT IT IS then? :)

  • @MikeJownzZ It doesn't matter what it is! It can be autotune but then again it's a million times better than the autotune popstars use. This song is about emotions

  • @MikeJownzZ Auto-Tune is software used to correct the imperfections in the tuneing of a recorded human voice on a DAW where as James is using voice modulating hardware as a creative instrument in the same way as Dizzy Galespie used a trumpet as a creative instrument. So one is used to correct a flaw and the other is a creative process. The similarity that we can hear is that Auto-Tune employes pitch shifting technology and so does the hardware that James is using.

  • @itsinmynamechap id account Bon Iver for the auto-tune. he loves it. although i would like to point out to haters that Auto-Tune when used correctly sounds nothing like this. he's simply set it to "think" that every note is wrong thus using it as an effect and it sounds amazing. same way kanye and t-pain and whoever the fuck else used it.

  • @MikeJownzZ Now I may be wrong but that would be my basic rational on this. Maybe I will stand corrected. Peace bud.

  • I love the art! I should play around with leather art.

  • i just got pregnant

  • Genius! Pure synthesis.

  • Fucking hell....it is pure eargasm!!!

  • Auto-Tune should only be put in the hands of Justin Vernon.

  • voicelive touch

  • im frothing

  • In Latvia we say: this pulls my roof off...Love it.

  • MAKE MORE TOGETHER

  • how can you dislike this.

  • amazing sounds

  • 2012 is gonna be an amazing year, yessir.

  • I replay this song over and over again. Try to memorize note for note.

  • song would be 10x better without autotune both can already sing so its pointless

  • @edspacely92

The auto-tune helps get the aesthetic affect they want to convey, though. It's like Picasso; he was a proven master at realistic paintings, which allowed him to paint with a very abstract style without being questioned.

  • @asianmatt2012

    thank you for understanding music

  • @asianmatt2012 that's an absolutely brilliant example, well put.

  • @asianmatt2012 You probably think you sound intelligent, but you don't.

  • @MasterExploder61

    Lolol no, not really.

  • @asianmatt2012 If you didn't intend for your statement to be a complete non-sequitur, then

you're conflating auto-tune with "abstractness," which is profoundly inane.

  • 1.Put dog barkling

    2. Use 3 notes on your piano

    3. Modify your voice like "Cher"

    4. Get 5000 followers shouting "Genius"

    Crazy times...

  • This shit reminds me so much of 'Woods'... not meaning that in a bad way.

  • @LeGEndPAiNtBallER32 Nothing like woods

  • all went in fire, drowning the sea. a red dawn, oh red font. caught up in the sea. all went in the sea. if only if only. if only if only. did you want to find a way [fight] [fly away] i always saw me love i will be love befallen i will lay my teeth i'll wait for growing and we both will know. and before you're all gone. daring on the peak, telling on the teeth i've been down to the open road i'll wait for you, you know and we both end up alone and if only we could have known.
  • @SpeechlessSilence i'm choking...this is a great interpretation/translation...

  • amazing voices!

  • ha @CerealBro fucking idiot

  • I have just found amazingness.

  • can anyone help me get this vocal processing or effectt in garage band?

    ??????anyone?

  • @VcookiemonsterV You Need Auto Tune And Antares Harmony Engine

  • They should make a whole album together..

  • @CerealBro Mate, shut up.

  • @CerealBro fckkkk up cuntttt

  • @CerealBro lol u suck

  • I LOVE the artwork !!!!!

  • just beautiful.

  • so this is where kanye got his ideas from

  • @mlw7890 what? Kanye hasn't released any new music since this came out...

  • @thegreatnicklevin he's talking about a sample kanye used from bon iver's "the woods" on his dark twisted fantasy

  • @mlw7890 Justin vernon is in this song, who was also on 2 MBDTF songs. That's why it's sounds similar to some Kanye's new songs.

  • @mlw7890 No actually KAnye did it first. 808s and heartbreat was back in 2008 brah, this came out just like 2 months ago.

Thos james blake rocked that shit well

  • This song is awesomer than life

  • It's weird how there can be so much emotion in a song you can't understand the lyrics to...

  • I love Bon Iver and quite like James Blake so I thought I'd love this but I don't. I'm pretty sad that I don't as well.

  • check my vid,,,,,,,,,,,, fan still

  • check my vid

  • Just...amazing.left me speechless.and that doesn't happen very often.

  • wow this gives me major chills

  • I didn't understand one word he was saying. Fail.

  • I swear that bark noise was in the Ocarina of Time.

  • @SunsetToBurns Yeah a lot of these artists are video game nerds...Burial used the sounds of round shells hitting the ground from Metal Gear Solid, FlyLo needs his Tempest fix to stay sane, DeadMau5 has Zelda and Space Invader tattoos. It's understandable that this generation is comforted by digital noises.

  • Does anyone know what this song is about??

  • @TheKeshaDemos being a human in existential crisis

  • i DARE you to try to find one song that is anything like this one..

  • I have no idea what they're singing about but.. i just love that ,,*pm hu'' for lack of the appropriate terms:)) (check out 0:20 to understand what the heck i'm saying)

  • @iordacheist apparently that noise is the Cuíca drum according to Rolling Stone website :O

  • EARGASM !

  • awesome-weird.

  • *it'll be excellent in my painting mix.

Idk why I skipped half a sentence.

  • This seems like an overly long intro or interlude to a better song. I like it though, it's excellent in my painting mix.

  • This song is Rainbow Throwup, meaning it is beautiful and ugly at the same time.

  • oh my god. James Blake & Bon Iver, match made in heaven much?

This is a stroke of genius.

  • oh. my.

    this is fantastic.

  • This song has grown on me. The first time I listened to it, I thought that would be the last, but after going back and listening again, I'm liking it more and more. Yes, it's different and not to everyones tastes, but I think its got a nice melody and a nice simple beat. Not sure about the dog bark though.

  • this always seems too short!

  • Listen to this song with a decent set of headphones.

  • @WeAreChangingSeasons I was just about to say the exact same thing.

  • 0.45 I'm a buffalo

  • Almost a million!!!

  • I really like this song. the "i've ben down the open rode" part is awesome. and I like random sound, it reminds me of this toy i had when i was a little kid. I think this song is amazing, wish you guys got it but i guess to each is own

  • Fact of the matter is... this song is pretty underwhelming. Annoying, even. Voca
