@odinstheboy: dude...nobody said he WASN'T good...you said "he was good or you wouldn't be on here" (???) My being on here does not mean he was good (or bad), so check that off the "no logical reason" checklist. i'm on here to HEAR his rendition...and I did. you also said "why does everyone go on about eveyrbody else?" I'll tell you why...because everyone has an opinion....just like you. Healthy comparison and contrast fortifies the musical experience...try it, you'll see...
I just discovered Jimmy Rodgers, having come into posession of one of his albums by chance...what a National treasure and great example of the strength and soul of America. It brought me almost to tears, especially considering Mr. Rodgers' circumstances. Positively one of America's great storytellers...if you couldn't tell, I'm hooked. My guitar and pipes now have a new mission.
@czkicker64 Sir, you have great taste...I think, Jimmy Rogers and Hank Williams are beyond superstar and are alone in a class by themselves...I just love to play their music.......
The heart and soul of country music today has been so abused and misused it can only be recognized by existing remnants who have kept true to its original form and style which made it so distinctive and appealing in the first place as opposed to today’s fitting in just about any category of noise or sound.
The other part of the story is that Rodgers was trying to record as many sides as he could before he died. He was paid by the side (plus a small sales royalty), and he wanted to leave as much as he could make for his wife in Kerrville, TX.
Wow that's a sad story about Rodgers. Yes, he was great, I love his lyrics and guitar style. Guys like Jimmie, Woody Guthrie, Hank, and many more were about as pure & real as music can get.
Its somewhat gruesome to hear this one knowing what was taking place during the final recordings which he only did to make sure the wife would have additional money since he knew he had only a few weeks. JR the father not only of country music but of rock and roll.. The CF were also rockers and drivers.. as were others at the Bristol Sessions..Picture Elvis, Johnny Cash, and Jimmie Rodgers standing at the induction to the rock and roll hall of fame--they certainly would have pulled Jimmy over.
He had so much more to write and record, it's such a shame the world lost him at such a young age. RIP Jimmie. As far as I'm concerned you are the top daddy of country.
@pentfixion I agree with you Acuff is king and Jimmie is the father of Country music , if he had only got to finish out his career what would country music be like today .RIP Jimmie
Now that is real music. Was introduced to the "singing brakeman's" music when I saw Merle Haggard's tribute album to Jimmie back in the 70's. Thanks for posting.
Thanks its priceless to see him as he looked when he recorded this.
I guess its true what they say , a lite is often twice as bright just before going out
He gave it his all for this his last recording and it stands up to time really well, both as a song and as a parable to any young folks who hear it, and read your excellant synopsis of his life history
HITLER used High Doses of Fluoride in the Water at the Camps keep people in a Zombie state cut guards 75%, Its causing Brain Damage including Alzeheimers Disease, 7 types of Cancer
NWO has it in Cola's says Sodium really Hex-ACID see films at FluorideAlert & FluorideAction, cost 4cents day take Magnesium before each meal break ADDICTION to cola in two weeks,
To CashPresley32 - I agree that Jimmie influenced Gene Autry and some other lesser known artists in the early 30's, but the others you mentioned were only indirectly influenced by Jimmie. Ernest Tubb was the most influenced. He traveled to MS to visit Jimmie's widow and received insight and guidance from her that started his career. A tonsillectomy in 1939 made his voice too low for Jimmie's yodeling songs. It was Ernest that gave Hank, Sr., and many others, their start and later success.
I grew up listening to his old 78s, and sang his songs as lullabies to my four kids (no wonder they are kind of different, I guess). He was wonderful! Thanks for posting these videos, I didn't even know they existed!
This was Rodgers' last record? Gee, he sounds in pretty good shape -- if I hadn't known otherwise, would never have guessed that he died so soon thereafter --
If you influenced Robert Johnson, you were early! Johnson was the Father of Blues and Rock-N-Roll. I do believe that Rodgers was an original. The yodeling is one of the keys to that. Never before had anyone incorporated yodeling to any form of recorded music outside of Europe. His songs are neither Spiritual nor are they Folk in any way known of the times. This would make them unique. Negro music would be the most closely related and it was still a far cry off having religious overtones.
Blues singers loved Jimmy Rodgers. Johnny Shines, who traveled with Robert Johnson, says that Johnson loved Rodgers and frequently sang his songs in performances. Howlin' Wolf was a huge fan of Rodgers. So was Mississippi John Hurt and B. B. King. They never accused him of stealing anything. Pretty amazing performer.
Someone mentioned a box set. There are a couple. The best (with far and away the best sound quality) is The Singing Brakeman put out by Bear. It's expensive but worth it. Recordings 1927-1933 is a good bargain for around $30, but doesn't sound as good. THE ESSENTIAL JIMMIE RODGERS has the hits but not much else. It doesn't have "Standing on the Corner" which he did with Louis Armstrong playing back up.
Jimmie Rodgers: The Father of Country Music. Wonderful classics! He could yodel. If you can't yodel or make an attempt at one, don't sing country music. Thanks psteve.
Oh, Jimmie Rodgers, my parents died young and together but my Daddy used to get a snoot full and sing old Jimmy Rodgers.. his favorite was someting about an Indian on the wind swept desert..?? Help me out, OK?
What a great track, thankyou! I too need to find a Jimmie Boxed Set to hear more of this fella. Maybe get me over my Hank fixation.. ......It's starting to slot into place a little now. Thanks again.
I absolutely love Jimmie Rodgers, his music is original to America! I'm glad to get to hear this final recording, he still sounds good. Thanks for posting!

Cut your teeth on Jimmie songs as you're learning to play guitar, and you can then earn your diploma and go on to learn even more, but the roots will always be there, along with Hank and Johnny.
