I hear this opinion a lot but let me tell you, Rudess has nothing to do with DT's current sound. MP and JP are the leaders of the band, and they're the ones who lean towards the prog metal sound. Jordan's main influences however are classical, and old school prog (similar to I&W). So if Jordan got his way DT would sound more prog rock. So don't blame him for DT's current sound.

I understand that their albums sound more modern for a purpose, but they could've at least retained some of their nostalgic themes that we all love.

No offense to JLB, but he should let Petrucci and Portnoy give him his lyrics (Not every song has to have lyrics that deal with political or religious agendas (i.e. "Blind Faith", "Sacrificed Sons", "Prophets of War") The only real quality lyrics that JLB has written have to be "Anna Lee" and "Disappear".
