i can't wait till we sing this song for our concert i was just wondering why they have books with the worlds. Your speaking part sounded a lot lighter than ours. our bass sounded so demonic but not in a bad way. Also i think my choir director saw this erformance or one where they starting standing at the MAH-O part but i don't think we're going to do it.
While I am the first to admit that this is not a definitive or flawless performance, that is not the point of my job. These are high school students, not professionals. I find it disheartening that some feel the need to criticize so definitively based upon such an informal recording. Every choir situation is unique and everybody does it differently. Choir is not a competition. Why take away others' joy in what they have chosen to share? Art is subjective; take what you like and move on.
lol. i love how it skipped the soprano solo! HAHAHA. I think this is a great performance. Dynamically interesting, well-balanced for the most part. There are some many recordings of this that SUCK (too fast, too loud). This has expression and interest. Wonderful job.

I am right. the tempo is wrong, music in hand, and the emotion is not there. there is talent, just not the right direction. I am a huge fan and I think this is ok for a highschool but there just needs to be the visual effect but you could not learn the spanish.
just being honest. I would not wanna listen to this at a concert. and with a song like this there has to be no music in hands it would just be a better sound and presentation
They do this song pretty well! Were singing it in our A Cappella choir this year too. Their basses are great. Wish I could hear more Alto 2 part though..
Its ok because it is a very complicated piece... There seems to be people singing wrong notes and it sticks out a bit. I know dissonance is supposed to be in the song but it seems people are singing wrong notes... My choir (Nutley High School) does this about every 2 years and we started learning it again today for Dec.
haha yea this guys right! im in the same school as him cept im in the NHS Chamber singers and that sounded good cept there was weird notes in there and the bell part on sounded weird
Not bad at all! The guys are rarely the problem with Whitacre performances, and that baritone solo was operatic in it's excellence. The problem is almost always the women who try to be divas and end up flat. The "lluvia" chord near the start, for example, and in many of the quieter moments, I can't tell if it's the sopranos or the altos but somebody sounds like dying cats. Overall though a 3 1/2 out of 5.
Our choir sang this song this year and we totally owned! We took it to contest and received perfect scores on all of our songs as well. The judge told us that there was verry little we could to to improve this song.
i would hate to sing in that theater, the sound just DIES after you sing. Very good group but the concert hall just makes every breath and twitch of a voice stand out.
We did this song last year. I don't like this version for many reasons. There's too many people. My chorus has only 40 members and like 12 were boys. The Spanish-speaking solo could have been more Spanish.. xD. It felt like it was being rushed. The men in this song overpower the women. The bells thing was cute, but when the people put their arms up, I was like wtf? I'm not getting the effect of rain. 4/10.
Weird breaths "recordar" section. "volver" I see where you guys lost it. I got to do this piece with Eric Whitacre my sophomore year of High School for the first ever Eric Whitacre festival. He's soooo amazing. No offense to your director... I don't care for his choice of timing for this piece. I've heard it quite a bit... some of it just didn't sound right. All together though... it sounded GREAT! Hard piece to tackle. Love that sheet music. TOTALLY easy to read. HA NOT!
This was nicely done. Long pause between male solos. Not choirs fault though. That's all up to the director. Went a tad flat during "picos de luz. "Went a little sharp during "Dime? Tierra que mada" Sops vowels :-/ little work. AMAZING JOB locking chords. I'm impressed.
just the part before the Soprano Solo...where i believe it cuts out...thats the only part we did really bad at..and i dont know why. Just didnt work with us. haha
ugh.. i find it annoying when some choir members do unecessary movements during a performance (of course except when they turn the pages of their piece).. scratching their nose or checking pockets.. its distracting...
Before I graduated Raymore-Peculiar High sang "A boy and a Girl" by the AMAZING Eric Whitacre.... What a prilage to have worked on that... and now for you, what wonderful memories have been made!
OMG WE ARE ON YOUTUBE I DIDNT KNOW!!!! lol Man this was so long ago... So many memories <3

I'm a Whitacre fan. Not a fan of this song however. You guys did a good job with it though.
That bass solo kicked ass! I have the BYU recording of Cloudburst and he sounded almost exactly like it. Kudos.

Love that beautiful cough at the beginning.
Also love the shiny baldness on the back of the choir director's head.
Not seeing too many black people in this choir. You guys integrated yet? J/k.
And were you amped up on Starbucks or something while filming this? You're having siezures.
Oh, it's the ending close-up. I see more black people now. Everyone just looked white from far away. My B, bro, my B.
Good performance, good tuxedos.

Same as some other recordings I've heard: everyone needs to remember that they're singing and not shouting. Fortissimo still needs to be in control.

When we performed it, we performed it with 600
It was the most amazing thing I've ever been a part of, and the most amazing thing the audience had heard.
This isn't too many people at all.

600 . . . oh. My. God. I would die to listen to a recording of that.
