  • Chris Weitz, you suckass

  • It will be really cool having a daemon!! LOL :D

  • I haven't watched it so I don't know about the catholic protest side - but every child has a pet demon?

And the church not liking this is bad?

Seems pretty clear cut to me.

  • daemons are surely same as the subconscious?

  • I'd want to have a kitten cuz I think I am uber playful and curious, it would cool cuz it would never grow up.

  • I love Hester.I At least this movie got the daemons right!

  • Why whe haven't a deamon! :(

    I want to (a real) !

but I do it just imaginary.

Unfortunately no one can see my boyfriend, but we have a great time!

    And I cut him!

actually I do not understand really why the others did not see! He looks so real!

(also known as Pan in the movie)

  • Where did you get this from? It's not on my DVD? :(

  • a butterfly Wow that would suck

  • I was like 'Wait what?' In a kid's movie?

  • @Countblackula666 Now gentlemen and ladies, I'm a royal and loyal member of the SS it's jst surpiring to me that this is in a kid's movie. P.S. If anyone can contact Rahu, tell him his buddy Rix said 'fuck you.' Now I have nothing against him...He's just a dick. *rubs shoulder*

  • if i had a daemon i'd name it darkteri and it'll be a black panther <3

  • in the book: the amber spyglass it tells you how to see your daemon. did anyone bother to try?

  • it's Franky from skins

  • The church should worry about other things than some movie, it's ridiculous, a Movie is a Movie, churches should not care at all what a movie does

  • I want a deamon! A corages chicken named Jeffrey :3 I LOVE PAN He is so cute and i wat to uggle him in kitteh form he is AY DOOR AIB EL!

  • @Emilyrose96 I hearted your comment so! ^__^

The concept of Jeffrey is the best!

  • @somethinguncreative Bahaha! Jeffrey the courageous chicken XD

  • @Beowolf322,

Sorry but I have absolutely no idea what you said there. Could you please reply in a more organised way?

  • Silly. Not even close to the daemons of Greek mythology. These are more like the familiar spirits of European folklore.

  • I do hope they make 'The Subtle Knife' as a movie, that was one of my favorite books out of the three. it did bug me how this movie ended the way it did though.

  • Happy 17th Dakota

  • You can tell how excited Daniel Craig was about working on the movie haha

  • Great distraction and great vide0!! thank u downloadmusic .im

  • What screwed this film in the us was the BIBLE THUMPERS immediately screaming about the SKY FALLING and all this EVIL corrupting our CHILDREN! (I think a LOT of what caused problems as well was the fact that these books were NOT very well known in the US). It's REALLY too bad that the American Taliban needs to stick their fucking noses into EVERYTHING and dictate what CAN and CANNOT be seen!

There WAS religious controversy... but it was only there as an EXCUSE in the GODDAMN FACISTS' Mind!

  • @darreth0104 I couldn't agree more -.- I respect every ones believes, religious' but that doesn't mean they have to vobit suck AMAZING made movies like these! The acturs and crew have worked so, so hard to make this movie and all those strong religious people can do is nag about it! GET A LIFE!

  • @zxl345

not true it meant evil spirit a long time before christianity existed

  • I love this film and think that it's one of the most overlooked and underrated Fantasy films since 2000 (along with Stardust and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen). Visual effects were decent. Nicole Kidman was stunning and very beautiful villainess. Dakota Blue Richards and Daniel Craig were great too. Hope they'll make a sequel

  • Wow. A whole new meaning to being demon possessed. Well, at least you're telling the truth about MOST people. Except for Born-Again Christians.

  • @mjlazok You've never read the books? The daemons is the soul++ being visible in the form of an animal instead of invisible... Dunno why the author called it that - but the spelling is NOT demon even if it is said like that... Don't know what liking the books or not have anything to do with Christianity... Its not like the point is to create a religious debate...

  • i love the books and i'm catholic

  • @bellaxedward132 Me too!

  • @bellaxedward132 Me too! It's a good story, so it doesn't matter!

  • My daemons a fox called alvin haha

  • nicole kidman is amazing! : D <3

  • what happens if you touch another person's deamon

  • @bellaxedward132 The popular belief is that you /can/ touch another's daemon, but it's a very horrible thing to do. It's like someone reaching into you and touching your soul - something absolutely personal that it's a feeling indescribable to us - those without daemons. Probably you'd be attacked or yelled at for doing such an act, but I'm sure brushing past them in a crowded area would be like brushing past someone's pet dog, but purposefully touching them with bare skin would be unspeakable.

  • beautiful!

  • @TheAnthrochocobo agreed!

  • i wonder is there a fish-typed daemon lol...

  • @vickyboy96 Actually, the book describes a man whose Daemon permanently took the form of a fish, and he had to live at Sea for the remained of his life because you can't be parted from your daemon.

  • does anyone think its sad that mrs coulter died i mean i kinda do because in the end she really loved and lyra and her never knew that they were so much alike her and lyra

  • @kaitlynfan mrs.coulter didnt die in the end? she got poisened but didnt die??

  • its real. we all have a daemon with us at all times.

  • Satanic

  • Pullman was a bloody genius in deciding the characters daemons. Hester as a jack rabbit was brilliant, as with the golden monkey. I envy his ability to decide which animal is which. An interent quiz with only twenty possible answers just does not cut it.

  • attached is my video in relation to the daemon and how i got guided to the knowledge of the real thing.

watching the whole series will help with general understanding on wtf im going on about with all of it :)

    God Bless

  • sad their not allowed to film the other books because the catholic church threatened

them if they made the movie they would wack em off! how holly of you farther lmao.

  • what's a good website to take a quiz on what your daemon would be?

  • prcetty cool, i want a daemon. according to the many tests i've taken, mine would be a Clouded Leopard. i named him Eleazar. =D

  • this movie seems really good.

i would like to see it

  • this is in no way related to a Daemon. not only is it pronounced incorrectly (daemon = day-mawn) but this movie being related to the bible the use of a Daemon is completely contradictory. Daemon is the procreator of all evil. of all maleovent action and spirit. so FUCK THIS MOVIE

  • happy birthday dakota!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i used to think i had a daemon

it was a nine tailed fox

    her name was Kyukin

  • Comment removed

  • I spent all of my time in Middle School figuring out my daemon along with my family, friends, even my teachers. My daemon is a black footed ferret XD

  • Is it JUST me or does it look like Salcilia (Rogers dæmon) is just DISAPPEARING when they're on the roof at 1:45?

  • @RedheadDane no it turns into a humming bird in mid fall

  • @Kikinatsu98 OOOh...

  • Do people actually believe that shit, or are they just closet furries?

  • i would to have a daemon i took the quiz and i was a tiger!

  • I did a test too Mine said it was the same as lord Asriel's

  • I took like ten quizes and they all said my daemon would be a wolf. That would be awesome to always have a wolf with me as my best friend....

  • Could a human hear someone else's daemon?

  • According to the book, yes, they can, but while it is uncommon for a daemon to speak to a human other than their own, it's not taboo. Now TOUCHING someone else's daemon.... that has a similar connotation to sexual touch (which is fine if the people are lovers, but not in any other instance is it ok.)

  • This was my favorite part of the book. I thought it was just so creative and exciting, having an animal-like outward manifestation of your soul. I wonder what my daemon would be...

  • Why in the world are there such strange comments? About actively conversing or acting with your Daemon? Spiritually everyone has one. In reality they are non-existent. Spiritually they are as you all say, a protector. In real life, you cannot speak with them or such things, and they certainly couldn't attack you, or they would be attacking themselves. Daemon's are basically your spirit, your soul.

  • demon aka daimon is protector spirit. its funny how christians have twisted demons being bad when tey are acsaly good.

  • Actually, demon and daemon are defined as two different things. (Though some translations say they are the same or similar)

  • Actually in Danish they had to translate "dæmon" to "daimon" coz dæmon in Danish means demon...

  • I took a quiz and my daemon is a bald eagle! :) awesome

  • okay, whats up with all these freaky comments?

  • Oh shut up...Its just a movie. and a damn good one! Christianity is fake anyway.

  • @101DegrassiFan i'm christian and i adore the books!

  • my deamon is butterfly

  • daemon or demon a rose by any other name would smell as sweet

respect your daemon or pay the price

  • mine attacks me so what can i do

  • i know you probably forgot your comment as it was posted 2 months ago-lol i know i would:D But are you serious about 'your' demon attacking you? If you are serious about it you really and truly wanna it all to stop, drop me a message sometime and i will try my best to give you some advice on it if you'd like:D

  • well my demon attacks me

  • Comment removed

  • Mine is a Black Panther, and not only ideologically as they describe, but also real and i've shape shifted into many times and still do, that is how i can roam the astral planes of earth without being bothered by Russian remote view trained military.

  • You seem very wise....I have not yet been to astral...Can you please tell me. What religion are you?

  • ... wha? are you for real 0.o

  • I have never thought it was pronunced "demon." I always pronounced it as "day-mon" = daemon. Ya know? "Demon" makes it sound evil.

  • Filly, I pronounced it the same way.

  • It sounds better doesn't it? XD

  • @filly07 That's because a long time ago "deamons" were believed to be good spirits that whispered to you what you should do (like a conscience). But the term became twisted in time and it became the way of naming a bad spirit. Then the catholic church used the word "demon" for the voice of evil. So you see it wasn't a bad this at first (Socrates used the term deamon to speak of your "inside voice" so it's a pretty old word), but it altered with the centuries.

  • @filly07 If I recall corectly Philip Pullman actually has a comment about that right at the begining of the book. He wrote that he chose a diffrent style of writing but the prenounciation ''demon'' because it fitted the style of the story

atleast I there was something like that in those lines XD

  • @LyWithMe

i am not so sure that is possible to make another movie of that because they change a little bit parts of the book in the first movie and if they do a second is like making a new book

  • @filly07 hahahahaha me too

  • @filly07 - WELL SAID!THEY refer to it as DEMON beacause they (Hollywood) wish to DEMONISE the term Daemon, they want to keep the masses from knowing the TRUTH. I dont appreciate this but I can see through it. If the masses thought there was any truth to this they would not put up with all the cr@p the establishment give us. The very fact that hollywood referred to it this way tells me there MUST be some truth to it. Check out Anthony Peake website and books on this...very interesting indeed.

  • @TruthofDilly in book 2, Lyra meets a boy from our world named Will, and she asks him where his daemon is but he thinks she's asking about demons (like the devil) and gets confused, so it's obvious that Phillip Pullman originally intended for it to be pronounced like that and has nothing to do with Hollywood or conspiracy theories. Furthermore, Peake first published his book about daemons in 2008 (a year after the movie was released), whereas Pullman's "The Golden Compass" was published in 1995.

  • @streetmd - You misunderstand me...I have NEVER seen this film and would never see it because of the reasons I have stated.I was, and still am, referring to the Origins of the word Daemon, its Ancient Greek origin, it is pronounced Day-mon and spelt Daemon as Filly07 said. Pullman NOR his films interest me. I viewed this vid hoping it was not Hollywood disinformation and I was sorely dissapointed, but not really surprised, they are just doing their job afterall I guess, misleading the masses!

  • @TruthofDilly I misunderstand? You were apparently referring to the word's ancient origins yet only cited Peake in support of your argument. It's not "disinformation". It's called Fiction, and most people understand it to be just that. The new pronunciation doesn't slander the original Greek concept because they are two different things; neither has a bad connotation. One is a philosophical theory, the other a fictional idea inspired by the first. This vid describes it within the story only!

  • @streetmd --- Er...' Like I said you MISUNDERSTAND! And you are obviously doing so purposely to have a petty, churlish argument on youtube. If you do not agree, lets agree to disagree but be mature ...please, as I don’t have time for people like you on youtube who clearly have nothing better to do with their time and refuse to allow others to have an independent opinion, of which I am entitled!

  • @TruthofDilly I misunderstand why you attack Hollywood via this vid and then claim to only be defending etymology. I was enjoying a good debate with you and didn't realize you were getting miffed. Pretty ironic considering how absolute your initial claims were against Hollywood. At least I've provided factual references to back my claims. I think the moment this discussion lost maturity was when you decided to label me "petty" for voicing a differing opinion in much the same way you did.

  • I had no intention of trolling, I'm just pressing you rather hard to validate your substantial claims against Hollywood. You are certainly entitled to your opinion and there is nothing wrong with a difference of opinions, but there is also nothing wrong with questioning each other. If I've done so too aggressively, then I sincerely apologize. Otherwise, I'd love to continue this discussion peacefully because I "clearly have nothing better to do" lol. If you care to continue, I'll be waiting.

  • @streetmd - Thank you, your apology is accepted. I also apologise. Love and light to you.

  • its an ASH, not AE.

    deemon

  • @TruthofDilly Wait what? That's how you pronounce it.

  • I love the cowboy's deamon.

  • ...demons

  • Yep, that's what it means.

  • demon and daemon are two different realities, daemon is our natural connection to mother earth, demon is humans that do not believe and have no clue.

  • how can you be conected to "mother earth", when earth is not a living being?it is just spacetime.

  • is there comming a sequel anyway?

because i believe it's been 2 yrs this one was released?

  • Why did they skip the scene we see at the very beginning, it were these sorts of scenes the movie needed.

  • I'm confused here.. In His Dark Materials, I thought the author was pretty clear that the daemon was equivalent of the soul. Are they not mentioning that bcuz they took all the...religious stuff out? I think this movie did so poorly because they over sanitized it for the masses. Maybe they should have made the movie more like the book and THEN let ppl decide if they could handle it...

  • Mayby I'm misinturpreting your comment, but they do mention a daemon and a soul are equal at the very beginning "Worlds like yours .. blabla something :p... and worls like mine, where they walk beside us as animal spirits we call daemons" eh.. it's allready been said at the very beginning of the movie..

  • Please bring the daemon quiz back! It was very fun.

  • i know! =(

  • I hope a different studio picks up the Amber Spyglass cos' it's better than Northern Lights.

  • the begging scene i didnt see that in the movie

  • Ok so these Daemons can change when they are young why notchange 2 like a fucking polar bear i mean damn

  • Why would they want to? I mean, they have no reason to and most Daemons have forms that they're comfertable with and that they're not. So they would tend to stick to forms they like. Simple.

  • Why Would they want to put fear into everyone harm others rule with power etc.

  • Daymon is the internet thing LOL-its deemon in the stories.

  • Possible Scientific Explanation for Dæmons:

Dust is especially attracted to humans and their activities. Dust in turn has some form of awareness. Dæmons are colonies of Dust that have, over the eons, formed a symbiotic relationship with humans. One so strong that, while a Dæmon is not literally his counterpart's soul, he might as well be. As two humans conceive a child, so their Dæmon counterparts conceive that child's Dæmon.

  • omg..i just love nicloe kidman...she is so great, shws probably a goos, strict mother...(:

  • I love Hester.

  • if had a dæmon it would be a fox. too bad Kitsunes r already foxes in themselves. also, put the ae together, dæmons DÆMONS, it looks silly apart, daemons.

  • The ae is called a dipthong

  • ÆØÅ. The signature letters of the Danish language. Must be dæmonic :D

  • i want a daemon

  • I talk to my dæmon all the time.

  • I know, right? I do to! And I'm not crazy.

  • Mhm. Do you have any favourite forms?

  • I like almost all animals, but I am particularly happy with getting some sort of big cat, or a wolf or fox. (which is almost always what I get!)

  • Yeah (reply to treehugger777).

I hope people don't think I'm crazy er anything ...

  • Has anyone tried the website where you can see what your daemon would be, mine would a mouse according to the site after answering 20 questions-I think they are both cute and kind of cool, I am on the third book now, I am so livid that they want to stop them making them.

  • compared to the book, it was a wreck, but for anyone who hasnt read it i guess its ok.

  • There's only about fifteen possible forms on that website, so of course it's not at all accurate.

  • No but fun.

  • @jane1975 What is the website?

  • @lions4life2 : There was a Golden Compass Website, but seems to of gone now along with the Daemon Test-mine turned out to be a Mouse-I think my Cats would kill me as soon as they saw it LMHO.

  • Can anyone send me the link to download this video?

  • So this movie tells us that the Demons is our intuition? That they are beings giving us guidance?

  • The deamons are your soul, but living outside of your body in the form of an animal. When your are a kid, your deamon can change forms, but when you reach adulthood, your deamon aquires a permanent form.

  • excuse me but i was quite attracted to the word daemon and i have read up on it enough to know.

and i went to this page of daemon set up and they talk as if they really have a daemon. can anybody please tell me if this is true? i don't seem to understand how they can get their daemon, though i have dreamed of having a pet Lion who can talk.

    please reply.

  • Kakaidol: A daemon isn't a pet. A daemon is your soul.

  • Thanks for sharing that, I like seeing behind of scenes, it is a great movie, I have nearly finished the second book, the Daemon is supposed to be her inner self, her inner conscience it changes with her mood, this only happens with children, it becomes fixed when you reach maturity, the basis of the stories is that the Magisterium don't want children to grow up and have a mind of their own to think, love, etc so they want to control the "freewill" aspect of growing up, and destroy it.

  • Freddie Highmoore is the greatest child actor :D

  • yes! He is amazing :D

  • dunno lol! well i guess we really have a daemon but they say inside us=P

  • I love this movie about daemons.... and i read the comment until the pass 8 page....

but is there such thing as daemon in the bible? I heard people arguing about religion....but is there such a thing in christian believes? Is it that everyone have daemons but only invisible in the REAL WORLD?

Please answer my question because I'm curious to know. I'm asking this because I'm not a Christian.....Lol~

  • No daemons aren't in the Bible. The reason people are arguing about religion is because the Magisterium who are the bad guys in the book represent Christian authourities. If you read the book, the characters also often comment about how they believe how false the Christian religion is?

  • Oh~ now I get it. It means that there is no daemon in the bible and everything that's in the movie is fake. So people is arguing because of the movie which show disgrace towards Christians. Am I right?

  • No its got nothing to do with daemons that is making Christians angry. The reason people are angry about anti Christian things is because the Magisterium who are the bad guys in the movie represent the Catholic Church and one of the themes of the movie and book is that Christianity is wrong and destructive. I know its kinda confusing but it's not the daemons that are viewed as anti-Christian.

  • erm...may i get the straight point? bible says that there is daemon in the world or there is no daemon in the world? and is it that the Christians in the movie are bad guys which make people hate their religion for their sin?

  • Yeah ur write about people hating Christians in this film because they sin. The Bible does not say whether daemons are real or not, daemons are simply fictional characters created bythe authour of the books!

  • Not gonna lie- alot of the aspects of the Magisterium is similar to the Catholic Church. "Intercision", in which your daemon is cut off you, has similarities to castration to make a man a "castrati" Another thing is in the bible, when many post-Egypt Jews worshiped a gold cow, God ordered them "cut off" from the rest so as "not to infect all of them with sin" or something to that degree. As you can see, there are MANY allusions to the Judeo-Christian religion.

  • Oh yeah I know that there is a lot of corruption in the Catholic Church similar to the corrupt forces in this book but I'm just not a fan of people who comment saying "Fuck the catholic church" and all that! Not everyone involved with it is corrupt!

  • @anon4th Some people think it makes them sound cool, intellectual and daring if they criticize the catholic church. Most of them do not know what they are talking abut. They have just read Dan Brown or seen a news story about pedophile priests

  • @anon4th Pullmans message is that the spiritual beliefs and the dogma of the catholic church are dangerous. So yes, in a way its not that the catholics are bad people, but they are still acountable for how their actions shape the world.

  • @anon4th the leaders of it are. If you say different you are ignorant. Sorry i'm so blunt but its that simple.

  • @beardedgecko987 I agree that a huge majority of the leadership in the Catholic Church are corrupt as is the case with all powerful organisations. Not EVERY SINGLE person involved with the Church is though. It's not as black and white as that. With every organisation, you will get good people and bad people. If you think that makes me ignorant, fine! I don't really care what some anonymous person online thinks about me. :)

  • @anon4th Youre right, the corruption in the catholic church is the same corruption as in any other big organisation, but the whole point of the catholic church is (or so they claim) to have moral authority. Any way my family are catholics so i couldnt bring myself to discriminate against the individuals. Anyway, the book's protest against the church was brilliant, this film was a shitty new-age disney remake.

  • Wow, this is a happy comment page isn't it. Can't we leave religion out of this? It's supposed to be a kid's movie, not a religious issue! Stop bashing how people live, there is a god in someone's life, there might not be in yours, don't say there aren't any gods and we don't go to heaven, thats someones belief so let them believe what they want. As for the movie and books i thought they were both fantastic!

  • Reply to killingyoursoul22: The Magisterium is the Church, they want to destroy Dust because they think it's sin... they oppress anything that contradicts the Authority (God).

  • what does the magisterium represent? my friend thinks it's the church but i don't know.

  • it represents any authority that suppresses human nature - good as well as bad.

I think the magisterium represents the way people twist and misuse religion to fulfil their own sinister plans.

  • that's right, and that's something few that read the book understand.

  • AmandaRokk (reply to ur comment on 7th page): I agree. It's been misunderstood that it biasedly represents all religious people. I agree that it just represents the way some people twist religion and misuse it. Well said. It's not against every religious person.

Daemons are so interesting! They're like animal forms of guardian angels/consciences & they can also be ur best friend! (And I understand that they are different than demons, just like rain is different from reign.)

  • I've not seen the film but you all should read the books! The His Dark Materials trilogy is the best thing I've read in years.

  • well, maybe it

s just a coincidence that they're called daemons, maybe it had nothing to o with religion, let go of your religion for a minute, don't take it personally and enjoy the movie.

  • it has nothing to do with religion at all. i've read that the word daemon comes from greek, but i cant remember the meaning.

  • reply to halfbloodwolf93:

thats right - the word daemon is greek.

There is a speech - by Platon i think - where he claims that a daemon is something between the divine gods and the humans. they help the two groups to communicate easier - "translating" prayers and commandments and such... besides, they have powers of their own. Eros/Amor/Cupid is an example of such a daemon.

  • Alot of parts on here, are different from what ive seen..Are they deleted scenes? Never the less, i adore the film, and the book =]

  • Stupid ass, May God have mercy? are you one of the super religious dudes that go like, god will hate you, jesus will look away. do you have truth? have you met him? Do you even read the bible? I may sound like an idiot, but demons might and might not exist, have you met one? so stop bringing all these crap onto youtube, youtube, for SHARING VIDEOS. not religion, you cant always have it your way.

  • Oh, boy! An idiot who will never meet their daemon! 8D There's a ship over there with idiots like you on it. *points in right direction* Every so often a daemian serves slime.

  • Oh, fuck off.

  • dominickearney, I wasn't talking to you. *eye rollage*

  • You are a very stupid person. A daemon is amazing. Shut up.

  • you know what? you are the kind of person that has made me an atheist. you are the kind of person represented by the magisterium.

people like you think you are better than everybody else. that you know the only truth and therefore have the right to condemn others.

"His dark materials" proclaim nature and sience the true religion. when we die there is no heaven and no hell. we only live once. God doesn't exist, and if he does he is either evil or ignorant. we are the heigest authority there is!
