I've been a fan of JD a lot longer than U2 and I'd just like to say fuck you to the fans who think JD is some sacred cow. Just look how the legacy has been shat on by far more inferior artists, look at it this way, Bono's favourite band is JD if not one of his faves, and if you were in his position wouldn't you want to do the same thing? Don't be elitist wanker's over something that belongs to everyone.
I love how most people have a mindset of : "Right, I'm NOT going to like U2 anymore", and then they come out with an absolutely AMAZING song, it just makes them go "Awwww shit..."
Every band who covers a song from another band shows a kind of respect with this. I`m a great fan of JD, New Order, Tears for Fears and so on. I like the TFF Version of Radioheads`Creep.
I'm not a fan of U2, just find them boring, I am however a massive JD fan. As people have said earlier. Bono is just as much a fan of Ian Curtis and JD as anyone else. I like the fact that he does covers of it. Shows that JD have been influential to one of the most famous bands in the last 30 years.
U2 justs fades love will tear us apart into with or without you just because they like the song and they like to sing joy division´s songs. As every single human who likes a song from a different band... it´s up to personal tastes
Bottom line is U2 could play Live, Joy Division did`nt sound that geat live, bad had BRILLIANT songs plus Moody New Order often went off stage in the Huff!, I love Joy D, but accept that U2 are a million times better folks, Ian will neva be forgot here and his music will stay / played by me until I finally go.
U2, like them or not, is trying to show respect with this cover. However U2 fans also have to respect that there is a little irony is such a commercial band who has lost their way covering a song like this. The resentment is partially warranted.
Joy Division Became New Order, New Order pushed dance music into the UK From New York and then pushed all excess of commercialism by running the Hacienda?
They were never some wannabe small clique band you know....
we all keep music going by singing it.thats the point.and i want to hear joy division being sung.hooky said U2 took the place of Joy Division after Ian died.not sure if they carried on the line though..
What is it with Joy Division fans...they get soo fucking angry. U2 were fans of Joy Division and worked with Hannet. Just showing a little respect. Joy Division could have had all of this...mind you if they did it would of been very fucking depressing! Joy Division fans have to relax a bit!
@tommywm24 - I'm the Biggest JD fan and I dont give a rats arse who covers it ! It Just shows that its such an influencial song to everyone ! Classic song ! From the most underated songwriter of his and any other generation ! Big U2 fan too ! Best live band in the world !!! (exept for Aqua !!! ..lol)

"Lose the right"? If anything, U2 covering this back in '86 gave this song more gravity. It's a masterpiece, and is firmly seated (perfectly, I might add) in another. I see nothing wrong with this- a fitting tribute to another great artist (Curtis).
What the fuck! if u2 wanna do some tribute to Joy Division the best they could do was starting to make albums like "boy", "the unforgettable fire" or "war", not this shitty covers that, in my opinion, only give a bad name to this song...
stop your crying They have been doing this since 86. Who are u to say what Bono and u2 stand for. They show respect by doing these covers. Ian is just as much a hero for Bono as he is for u. You will have to share.
i agree and its not if bono jus decided he liked the song and thought lets do a cover joy division are one of his favourite bands. infact U2 were in studio when joy division were recording love will tear us apart
went to the toronto show, 2 of the 3 dates - awesome concert everytime and they even changed up a couple of the songs. they never fail in concert - great show.
The band members of U2 were shopping for producers when they were invited to the recording studio, and witnessed the recording of "Love Will Tear Us Apart". They were just a "baby band," as they often say, at the time, and it made an impact on them.
Are you dumb??? Bono sings this words from Joy Division since the live performances of Joshua Tree Tour. Remember, Joy Division are from 1976 and U2 from 1978. And they also belonged to the "britpop" of the 80´s.
i wonder if they had cuts to play this song on some Middle/North England gig. This is an ok cover, but i think the best one (of the covers of this song) is U2 w/ Arcade Fire...although no one can match with JD
Best version ever of this song (w/Love Will Tear Us Apart) is from a Chicago show on the Joshua Tree tour. I wonder if they remember and decided to tack it on here. Bono rarely does that anymore.

@woodyfurball accept that it's a matter of taste and not a matter of what you think
secondly, yeah U2 sounds better than Joy D but it's still a matter of taste and Joy D didn't really want it to sound that good
they were punk musicians and therefor they focused more on the energy in the show
btw i don't think they had nearly the same amount of money as U2 have so i don't they could effort it

Its not us that have to relax, its the retards that took South Park too seriously.
Ever since South Park made fun out of Bono, everybody thinks he's a dick without really knowing why they think that of him.
This is something you'd expect from kids, though I wonder how so many kids found out about Joy Division.

From the book U2 by U2:
The band members of U2 were shopping for producers when they were invited to the recording studio, and witnessed the recording of "Love Will Tear Us Apart". They were just a "baby band," as they often say, at the time, and it made an impact on them.
