  • Well still...if you have a blog or are willing to post MP3's or whatever. I'd love to have this on my car player. Very inspiring! Hope you hear more from you someday. Thanks!

  • Wow!!! Beautiful. Can I send you $12 and get 10 tracks like that with just a little data on who/what/how for each track? My ear likes!!

  • @jeharmon70 Thanks, but I've got no plans to do any more at present. The "who/what/how", is myself with hacked together midi drums, and of course a superb arrangement by Graham Pinkney. The bass trombone part at the end is faked on a Tenor tbn, I mistakenly returned the Bass tbn before completion.. Duh!

  • Great playing!!! I loved the bass trombone part, too!!!

  • you sound too good to play behind canned backing tracks, c'mon. You're doing your own playing a disservice. Come down to NYC and start playing like that at a jam session and you'll get called again. The high register on your bone sounds like a freaking flute, I dunno how you did that and I didn't know it could be done.

  • Hi @pickinstone, Thanks for the positive comments, but I doubt that NYC needs another Tbn player right now!

  • @pickinstone you've obviously never heard of dave steinmeyer. check him out.

  • I borrowed a older Yamaha for the recording, am not sure if it was an Eb or D second valve, used the included Vincent Bach 2g M/P though.

  • What Bass Bone are you playing on?

  • Fantastic, Bob, just fantastic! Is that a King 3B you're playing? Incredible tone! I've not heard your performances before. You're on my radar now, however! Great job!

  • This is such amazing peice, i have listened to it at least 3 times now :D x

  • the bass bone part near the beginning and at 2:20 reminds me of 23 deg North - 82 deg West from Kenton's best of album.

  • @gobucksgo21 Yes, right on the money. I think that Graham Pinkney who wrote the arrangement might be a big Kenton fan..

  • Bob - you're such a clever cloggs - bleedin' amazing - but I hate to admit it!!!

  • Thanks!

  • Very nice job indeed! You got a beautiful tone in the full range of the instrument. By the way which mouthpiece (s?) did you use?

    Thanks anyway

PS:In spite of my nick I am not supporting any brand.

  • In the photo I've got a DW 9BS, but I recorded with a Marc 11 (not a 11C), which I always come back to, having used it since the mid 1980's. A long time ago...

Ps, and a VB 1G on the Bass Tbn.

  • Andy, thanks for that great compliment! If it helps you, I only sorted my chops out a few months before recording this track. In the end, I went back to the drawing board, and "redesigned" my embouchure from the ground up..

I had given up twice in frustration, once for almost a decade, but it was relearning the D/ Bass that started me to rethink my Tbn method, also observing the way that other instruments worked, particularly the Flute.

    Jaw angle, Aperture and Deflection..

  • 30 years since the age of 12 when I started, I've been striving for that sound, but never got there.

In the end I just gave up, went with the large bore full time and played straight.

You're either one or the other I think.

    I wish I was the other !!!

  • Wow, you have an amazing tone! It's a very interesting arrangement too...

  • I think range and tone on the Tbn is largely about the best use of the aperture. Check out "Trombonisms" by Bill Watrous...

    Thanks, Bob M.

  • way to go man. what range. i stumbled on to your video as your response to a t-bone quartet doing ''stardust''. is that a king 2 or 3b you have on board with you in the picture. how many bones were you playing with. sorry i can't do questions marks.

  • It's a 3B and a Marc 11, no other bones, glad that you enjoyed it.

A new track is on its way...

  • I watched very closely but couldn't see you move your lips. To think all this might have been going on down at the Steamer Quay. Keep the Steam rising!

  • oh my gosh!!! this is AMAZING!!!!!! Great piece to show off some range!!! Nice. It's outstanding!!!! asome sound and tone quality too!!!.........Keep up the great playing!!!!

  • dam you are a great trombone player if you give mi some tips of range work out

  • Thanks, the range is something that I've been working on for a while, low pressure, tight aperture etc etc. The arrangement was done for me, I want to hang onto it, maybe redo some of it in the future...

  • you have an amazing range on the trombone... can i get some sheet music :)

  • omg thats crazy and amazing.its amazing how high he can play on the T-bone

  • do caralhoooo!!! esses caras são fodasss..

  • Any chance his son played with Frank Zappa? He is also very talented.

  • Hi, not sure who you mean..

  • Nice !

    Julie

  • Hey Bob a joy to listen. Great arrangement.

    Rino

  • Very nice! Worth more views...

  • The French Horn would lend itself to this sort of project very well. Good Luck. BM.

  • this really is quite amazing

i play french horn and have always admired the trombone

  • Thanks, but I've been struggling with just the audio, am currently working on "Getting Sentimental". Will try to have a more interesting picture for that..
