your not gonna rip these type of waves they are way too huge. this is what makes waimea much more dangerous in some respect than mavericks in that it has that deadly as hell shorebreak, you better have some great cardio if you gonna survive that beating
can you imagine surfing this wave all the way into shore only to run into that horrendous shorebreak! Most people would die in that stuff! Not much cuttin back and stuff you do on this stuff you just try to survive it
he just rode the wave. Couldn't they do that stuff in the eighties. Or fuck the 40's 50's and 60's for that matter. I"m not trying to bash on this vid, I'm just curious... did he win just because he got the coolest wave and was able to stay up? Where are the 360's off the top of the wave. He doesn't "cut" back into the wave, (sorry I don't know the technical terms. and I live in l.a. that's sad.) why does this performance seem so underwhelming for a winning run?
It's sick because after making the drop on a huge wave, he freaking chop hops the reform all the way to the shorebreak where he drops into a sick barrel. It's style, balls, skill and never seen before in that contest.
It's like when Bo Jackson ran into the tunnel after scoring a TD against the seahawks on MNF. It's the exclamation point to an awesome statement.
@1968bigcity did you even read my comment?! I'm never said I could do it... I don't surf, I'm just interested in the sport. So of course I couldn't do that or any wave. You didn't address my question: Couldn't pro surfers in the 80's or even before do the same thing? It's not like he did any tricks... he just got a really good wave. Any good surfer could have done the same thing. This sport becomes dumb when talent is based on a sweet wave and not sweet skill.
any1 who takes on that shore-break deserves a trophy.
