Stunning New Research: "Placement of a gastric band appears to be a disservice"
"The placement of a gastric band appears to be a disservice to many morbidly obese patients and therefore, in the current culture of evidence based medicine, the prevalent use of laparoscopic gastric banding can no longer be justified. " Dr. Guller from Toronto, Canada. Furthermore, they state: "There is mounting and convincing evidence that gastric banding is suboptimal at best. "
Hey doctor I am scheuled to get the lap band my Insurrance aproved it but after reading about so many failed patients I am thinking twice is it really that bad and if it is why did the FDA aproved it
Not a bad patient, a bad doctor! The key word is ADJUSTABLE gastric band. Anyway, of course the band is not for everyone -- NOTHING is for everyone, but you don't know ahead of time, and at least with the band you can always change your mind. Done any bypass reversals lately doc? Didn't think so!
Generally after a fill to the band you are supposed to only drink liquids for a few days. You may have eaten too much too soon. Fruit and veggies do fit through the band if you chew them enough, peel them or cook them. It also sounds like you had too much fill in your band.
I had lap band and it was successful. I am so sorry to hear that you had so much pain. You look great. I had my surgery with Dr. Felix in Fresno. He is the BEST. Good luck to you.
How about with the new band now? I hear it is better then the old band? Is there less complications like this then with the old band? Please reply, thanks.
