  • Those "Christian armies" are Bulgarian, they literally saved Europe from Islam. It's depicted there, because that part of nowadays Romania was Bulgarian in 8th century, for which we're talking about. Also there are thousands of churches like this in Bulgaria, all with golden iconostasis and walls painted with very old icons. My respect to our neighbours Romania, but my point is...WHY DID YOU POOR MAN PALIN SHOW THE WORST OF BULGARIA?!!!!!

  • he talks a load of rubbish, he seems to be confused, not knowing the difference between Moldova and Moldavia it is a shame. At least try read about the country which you are visiting f**ck sake.

  • type Prize before youtube

  • very good palin-one thing marie was married to ferdinand NOT carol LOL

  • :O wow priest in europe are same like veda chanting Hindu baba of India. Cool to know how religion of different places are very similar.

  • his comments are a little bit superficial,... despite the beautiful nature, their life seems hard... you don't know really what those people are feeling...

Once you put behing all the prejudice about this country, you'll will discover a gem...

  • lovely country... worth visiting

  • Moldova and Moldavia were once ONE...thanks to the russians now there are TWO, and one is independent...forget the fact that they are of the same ethnicity, language, heritage, cultural background as romanians...i hate those fcking uralic motherfuckers.

even now they're planning ways to rape nations by economic blackmail in the energy sector.

  • Good work BBC

  • it's like scenes out of a movie, AMazing. I want to visit someday.

  • It's lovely! I was there last summer in the mountains - just gorgeous!

  • BEAUTIFUL ...

I heard that there is lot of CORRUPTION going on in ROMANIA ..is it true ????

  • There is still corruption, but it seems to be easing at street level.

  • @mailman63155 esti un prost :)) Si cam ignorant

  • @jestersunshine He's not a scholar, just a tourist with a camera crew. He can hardly be expected to get all the facts right. Relax and enjoy the fact this is a generally positive film.

  • like everywhere else!

  • There's corruption in all countries - it's just that the west manages to cover it up better!

  • @Kingsmead87 yes like in any occidental country and it was they the occident who corupted Romania !!!

  • Not more then in other places

  • @Kingsmead87

There is also corruption going on here in the UK too. That is true, look up the MP's expenses scandal.

  • Some people are way too sensitive...

    Thanks for posting :)

  • So why did you cut-out the bits of Moldova? Following this documentary, Michael Palin said that the best place he visited was the Republic of Moldova, so I think its a shame that you removed those bits!

  • The country of Moldova is not the country of Romania. I'm posting this so I can embed it into a Romanian tourism page and the Moldovan bits are unnecessary for that.

  • Such ignorance is understandable when your name is "The SUN", not when you call yourself BBC. "Moldavia" and "Moldova" 2 different things??? "Moldavia" is only the translated name of "Moldova". The only difference is "MOldova" - part of Romania, and "Republic of Moldova" - ex part od USSR, stolen in 1939, and now independent country, but once part of Romanian Moldova. Learn history, BBC! That applies for other foreign media chanels too!

  • Anyone would have trouble knowing the detailed idiocincrasies of the Moldova/Moldavia/Romania/Rep. of Moldova situation. Just accept that he is paying respect homage to the region and presenting a decent travelogue that we can enjoy.

  • moldova and moldovia is the same territory, the rep of moldova is actually basarabia a region of moldova which was anexed by the russian empire in the 1812 after the war with the ottomans (turks) until 1812 rep of moldova and moldavia (from romania) were one country.

  • 'Why can't they just have afternoon tea, like everyone else?' Sa mai fii omenos cu strainii! Am citit cartea lui Palin - New Europe si mi s-a urcat sangele la cap de cata ironie perfida si neadevar istoric contine.

  • Well, I don't want to dis Moldovans, but I'm posting this so I can embed it into a Romanian tourism page and the Moldovan bits are unnecessary for that. I just wish I knew how to correct the audio track.

  • I don't speak Romanian, but I get the idea of your comment. And yes, I know all about Stefan cel Mare and Mircea, but in today's world they are different countries and someone going to Romania won't likely be going to Rep. of Moldova so I made a separate version of this show that shows ONLY modern Romania.

  • sorry, i had no idea that somebody who doesn't speak romanian would post a show about romania. and i'm surprised that somebody who doesn't speak romanian knows about romania and moldova.

  • i guess you probably live in romania

  • Congratulations for the idea of posting this documentary!
