I REALLY want to be professional dancer someday, but I don't have the "right" ballerina body. I wear a B cup bra and sometimes I'm really sad because I think I won't ever get to be a ballerina. Polina Semionova really inspires me because unlike most prima ballerinas, she is a little chestier. I wish to be as good as her someday without having to have surgery or anorexia. But it still worries me that my dream seems so hard especially because of my body.

Not being confrontational but there are people I've seen and a friend I know that's skinny like her but her breast are natural and they sag but she's not boney just slim but tall.It's possible trust me.
Not tryna be funny but it's rare that there is any lead role that has a woman with such large breast like Polina Semionava even though she's the perfect size.Usually there all A cups that get the lead roles and that are in the corps de ballet.

No this isn't the Dying Swan. This is just Swan Lake. The Dying Swan isn't in Swan Lake, it is a small solo variation Anna Pavlova choreographed because she loved swans amongst other reasons. And Polina is thin but not too thin. She has the perfect figure.
Some people are that thin because of a metabolitic disorder. My aunt has to have special high caloric drinks so that she doesn't go so far underweight that she gets kicked out of the military. It's a recognized medical condition. She has a hyper-thyroid that is controllable (for her) by increasing the caloric intake to above normal. Since she turned fifty she's been able to lessen the needed intake but still sometimes needs medication.

A thick thigh doesn't make for a nice arabesque, while swans, fairies, and young damsels aren't exactly noted for their curves- except in their feet of course. Polina is actually pretty big for a ballet dancer- tall, broad shoulders, big boobs. If she does have an eating disorder, it's a real shame and she should receive help- don't get me wrong. ballet never has weight rules - only body type. yes, they expect you to be thinner than the average person, and it usually happens as a result of harsh exercise that's necessary to training, not from dieting. but they don't have weight rules.
I think that yes, everyone no matter the age or whatever should be allowed to dance, and has their right to attend open classes or even regular classes. However, strict rules DO have to be laid down on weight for pointe, not because of appearance, but because of the health to the dancer. People who are overweight and even UNDERweight need extreme caution in pointe. You should be in the right weight range and be able to do certain things and have enough strength to go on pointe.

You don't have to be light. The object of being the perfect partner is to lift your own weight. You have to pull up as much as possible. Of course, you can't make yourself weightless, but you try to. Some companies believe thin bodies are beautiful, so naturally it's just what you're in.
If the ballet world isn't about weight then why are ALL the dancers in major companies really thin. Because when it comes to pas de deux, you ahve to light for you partner to lift you.
She is such a perfect wonderful dancer...but she IS overly thin, compared to a lot of other professional dancers. Some of it is natural, and she does have a LOT of muscle...but look at her back. You can see every single bone in it. That's NOT natural thinness.
The best dancer at my studio was average weight and was accepted into Boston Ballet Company, to become a principle dancer. The ballet world isn't about weight, it's about hard work and talent. Most dancers are skinny because ballet training burns fat.
and lots of them are skinny cause they dont eat anything. and most times it not the fat(cause they hardly have any) but the muscle....which is idiotic.
If dancers didn't eat anything, they couldn't dance. They use so much energy during classes and rehearsals that if they didn't eat, they would collapse. No dancer would risk his/her career just to be skinnier. Eating disorders in the dance world do occur, but dancers who don't eat don't advance.
ummm..i know. gelsey kirkland did that. she was anorexic at one point in her career......... she was a complete disaster when she was.but she never colasped. thats why im saying thts companies are crazy these days. i know many teachers who have danced in the best companies and had eating disorders......

you cant be a 120 pound BALLET dancer. professional ballet is the only dance with super strict weight rules.

um, yes you can. it depends on height.
if i weighed less than 120 pounds, i'd be positively bony and probably anorexic.
ballet never has weight rules - only body type. yes, they expect you to be thinner than the average person, and it usually happens as a result of harsh exercise that's necessary to training, not from dieting. but they don't have weight rules.

what i think is no matter your age, height, gender, weight, ect. i think you should be able to dance
its not about the apperance, its about your passion for it and that its somthing that you love.

that's absolutely true. i don't think it matters at ALL who or what you are, anyone can dance and be good at it. anyone at all.
however, the professional route is very, very, very selective. so it goes.

I think that yes, everyone no matter the age or whatever should be allowed to dance, and has their right to attend open classes or even regular classes. However, strict rules DO have to be laid down on weight for pointe, not because of appearance, but because of the health to the dancer. People who are overweight and even UNDERweight need extreme caution in pointe. You should be in the right weight range and be able to do certain things and have enough strength to go on pointe.

You don't have to be light. The object of being the perfect partner is to lift your own weight. You have to pull up as much as possible. Of course, you can't make yourself weightless, but you try to. Some companies believe thin bodies are beautiful, so naturally it's just what you're in.

If the ballet world isn't about weight then why are ALL the dancers in major companies really thin. Because when it comes to pas de deux, you ahve to light for you partner to lift you.

she's GORGEOUS. i think people need to look past her body and into the intensity of the ballet and her movements...
the reason she's so thin is because people like all of you that dont compliment her dancing, and onyl critique her body..
watch the ballet, not her appearance.

She is such a perfect wonderful dancer...but she IS overly thin, compared to a lot of other professional dancers. Some of it is natural, and she does have a LOT of muscle...but look at her back. You can see every single bone in it. That's NOT natural thinness.

The best dancer at my studio was average weight and was accepted into Boston Ballet Company, to become a principle dancer. The ballet world isn't about weight, it's about hard work and talent. Most dancers are skinny because ballet training burns fat.

and lots of them are skinny cause they dont eat anything. and most times it not the fat(cause they hardly have any) but the muscle....which is idiotic.

If dancers didn't eat anything, they couldn't dance. They use so much energy during classes and rehearsals that if they didn't eat, they would collapse. No dancer would risk his/her career just to be skinnier. Eating disorders in the dance world do occur, but dancers who don't eat don't advance.

ummm..i know. gelsey kirkland did that. she was anorexic at one point in her career......... she was a complete disaster when she was.but she never colasped. thats why im saying thts companies are crazy these days. i know many teachers who have danced in the best companies and had eating disorders......
