I was in the March and those State Police Officers Didn't make me feel safe! Their reason for being there was to make sure "people didn't Crossover to oncoming traffic". I guess that's why they were ready to shove anybody who got too close to the yellow line.
If anyone has any documentation or footage of this incident, please help out his friends and family by making it publicly available! If you have any other information or can help out in any way, please contact me. Thanks.
Oliver Anthony, 20 years old, known by most as "Ollie" is currently in the Cook County Jail system awaiting his arraignment for the charge of "assault and battery of an officer." According to eyewitness accounts this claim is false; Ollie was clearly seen assaulted, maced, and dogpiled by Chicago Police, seemingly unprovoked.
Ollie was found guilty today (1/21/10) on this charge and cannot leave the state of Illinois. Sentencing is next month. He was not on his medication for bipolar when he was arrested.. but has been on it again for some time now.. however, the judge didn't seem to see fit to dismiss the charges. I would think being beaten to a pulp would be punishment enough for what he did (or didn't do!) When you look at all the really BAD things that go on in Chicago why are they wasting court time with THIS?
"How can you claim to be a peace activist and support police?" - What an ignorant statement! I guess I missed the memo on hating cops = peace activist! Whatever! Go snap on another bong load, hippie!
I guess this anon. group GOT WAY THE FUCK OFF COARSE....ou keep you crooked shit in that part of the U.S. You all are missing the point..DAMN )}-:> FAIL
I live in Pilsen and just because I don't share your point of view does not mean I need to "wake up"! Did you see him attack the officer? I DID! So don't act like you know what the hell you are talking about! Protesters are peaceful, right? They never cause problems, because this was an "anti-war" rally? You hippies are something else. I'm sorry if I never had a problem with the police, and I'm sorry you hate everything and everyone. I'm allowed my opinion, or do you want to protest that too?

If you don't know what the hell you are talking about, don't comment. That kid was not innocent. He physically attacked a police officer who was there to protect and keep the public safe! He was resisting arrest, that is why he was on the ground! And there was no blood. It was the dye from the mace they had to use to subdue him! Yeah that's right, when you attack someone, run, then resist arrest, you get a nice squirt in the eye! Why was he even at a peace rally? What a freaking hypocrite!
I have never encountered a police officer who was at a rally to protect people.
Maybe they were there to protect property, but it seems to me when there are armored police officers with clubs and pepper spray, they aren't there to protect PEOPLE.
How can you claim to be a peace activist and support police?
He attacked no one. The police were confrontational with him because he had patches that said "POLICE = PIGS". A banner was dropped from the top of a building, and while attention was diverted, cops snatched him because he was a solitary target. They maced and beat him. Any person who gets unexpectedly grabbed and maced is going to use their body to defend themselves. It's instinctive. Rhetoric is the only thing keeping people like you from "resisting", anyway.
Was it politically incorrect to show the part where the police hospitalized that innocent kid? Did you miss that part? He was on the ground, covered by cops and his face was covered in blood. Huh, guess you didn't see it.

first off, no this is not a peaceful protest
it's pretty clear that when seven coward with batons surround a teenager that it is not
second, compared to some I have hardly had direct troubles with cops
but some we should really learn to look beyond our own experiences Rachelle
finally
I am not a hippie and i prefer never to be around drugs but your decision to starting name-calling really shows something about your character

"He physically attacked a police officer who was there to protect and keep the public safe! "
You talk just like a brainwashed authority-must-be-right-individual
People like you justify acts of violence by the state in any way possible
"he must have assaulted them"
"she must of had a gun"
"they had a history of arrests"
"they were in a gang"
"they were acting suspicious"
"our army made an intelligence mistake"
