I remember kicking Dracula's ass when I was a kid and getting this ending.... but when it said "Simon couldn't survive his fatal wounds" I was like "WHAT FUCKING WOUNDS????"
That was until I played it through again and got the better ending.... then I was happy...
The way how the fight ended here was actually really proper for the situation, because in the ending text it says that Simon dies even though he defeated Dracula. Simon kind a fell down to the ground after battle and just barely got power to bury Dracula and then dies.
And then... Konami decided to make another Simon's Quest experiment, giving "flesh" to the greatest castlevania, and thanks god, only one for PlayStation... even people says this is not a good game, we must give it thanks for giving us a game like Symphony of the Night... Hard when you first play it, fun when you re-play it and look for bugs and other stuff
Considering that Castlevania II is a HUGE game with MANY areas and requires you to spend a lot of time collecting things, it's unfair how easy it is to get this ending.
I like Castlevania 1 and 3. Part 2 is like back tracking back and forth which I really hate. But in 1 and 3 you go to one level to the next and always a boss.
Here's the breakdown. The ending you get is determined by the number of game days it takes you to finish. If you complete the game in 7 days or less, you get the sunset ending. 8-14 days, the blue sky ending (clearly the worst, in my opinion), 15 and higher you get the black and whtie ending (which I assume was intended to be more negative - another casualty of a poor translation, probably).
@eunicron Yeah, the text from this ending definitely belongs in the black-and-white ending, since "Simon couldn't survive his fatal wounds" would explain why he's not at Dracula's grave in that ending.
this is the worst ending out of the other ones. Notice the text "Simon't couldn't survive his fatal wounds." That to me leads me to understand Simon is dead. Then the text goes on to say Dracula's deadly curse is still active. Conclusion - your character died and the curse is not gone.
This isn't really the "worst" ending. It's just bad. The worst ending's in black and white. Here are the endings:
1) Worst Ending (Black & White)= Simon dies in combat w/ Dracula
2) Bad Ending (This video) Dracula's defeated, but Simon dies b/c of his wounds afterward.
3) Best Ending (Sunset in background): Dracula's defeated and Simon survives. Plus, Dracula somehow comes out the grave to tease a sequel to Castlevania 3.
i highly disagree with your points on endings 1 and 2. The black and white does look like a "odd" ending, but it never once says you are dead, much like this particular ending does, ending 2. Even if it were true that Simon did "die" in ending 1, you removed Dracula's curse, which unlike ending 2, you failed to break the curse and you are now dead. Personally, I think this ending is the worst one. Regardless, I do agree on one thing: ending 3 is the best ending.
From the black & white, you would get the impression that Simon died as he defeats Dracula. In it, it said, "Simon, you'll always be remembered for your bravery and courage". Most people get that message and impled that they have died. But it's your opinion, however. I got nothing against that.
Yeah. From what I heard, the English version was a poor translation to the Japanese version. Plus, some of the words in the game are mispelled. For example "You now 'prossess' Dracula's heart?" It should be spelled "possess".
the belmont in Castlevania 3 is Simon's grandfather Trevor... so in the timeline Castlevania 3 comes before Castlevania 2... it's essentially a prequel.
I think this is the worst ending. To me it sounds like Simon lost and Dracula is still alive. Notice is says that the conflict between Dracula and Simon has ended, it doesn't say that Dracula is dead. It goes on to say that Transylvania's only hope is a young hero who can defeat Dracula and lift the curse. So in this ending even though you've beaten the game you still lose. Kinda sucks, but that how I interpret it.
I heard that this was the worst ending, because is the one you get when you finish the game in more than ~16 days, but in happiness the worst is the grey one. But in this one simon also dies, 'he couldn't survive his fatal wounds', that says clearly that he also dies in this one. I'd rather say that the grey one is the middle one because at least the peace returns and simon is remembered as a hero.
I say this is the middle one for a few reasons, one being that it's between the one that I call worst and the one that I call best. Some do consider this to be the worst ending, but I do not, since it's not in black and white and Simon is still alive when he's at Dracula's grave. In the one that I call worst, you don't see Simon at all.
That's true, take the Oddworld games for example: You can get a good and a bad ending in Abe's Oddysee, with the bad ending getting Abe killed, and the good ending getting Abe saved. Of course, only the good ending continues the series since Abe still is the main character in Abe's Exoddus and he is also in Munch's Oddysee.
wait a sec simon died right after he killed him!?!?

You aren't the first to say that.

I'm aware of that.

Konami used this ending to continue the story right?
That explains why "Simon" Knees before that grave: its not him its Trevor!
(Its just my Theory)
Sephiroth5008 3 years ago
Trevor fought Dracula around late 15th century, while Simon fought Dracula around late 17th century. I somehow doubt he is Trevor.

It's based on how much time you take finishing the game and how many continues you use. I don't remember the exact limits.

hmm, maybe they really did accidentally mix the english translations with the endings.

Yeah. From what I heard, the English version was a poor translation to the Japanese version. Plus, some of the words in the game are mispelled. For example "You now 'prossess' Dracula's heart?" It should be spelled "possess".
MXLDisturbed 3 years ago
btw, I checked wikipedia and there's this fact: in the original japanese version all the people in the villages were liars. So that's fuckin fair :D
Assiman 3 years ago
The towns people didn't really help that much anyways.
MXLDisturbed 3 years ago
I have to agree with thelurker25... this ending seems worst than the black&white one.
Common things : You "clearly and unclearly" die in both and Dracula's defeated.
Different:
1.B&W = Dracula's curse lifted. Blue=not the case.
2.B&W = Peace has came back. Blue = A young man is in charge to triumph over Dracula's curse.
3.B&W = You get honored by the citizens. Blue = You just die from your serious wounds.
So in opinion, I think the blue sky is the worst one.

If you get killed extremly many times in this game you will get the black white ending and with many game hours.
