I always feel such a surge o' happy when Jocelyn raves about trying to track down a copy of Sea Road, and Grigg asks her if she wants to borrow it. One of those unexpected, pleasant reactions.
I really like how Dean and Prudie were able to patch up their marriage. The way Dean kissed Prudie was so intense!! I also loved how Dean really made an effort to fix their marriage. It melted my heart when he said "okay 1 page". Look at it from his point of view. He's the typical macho sportsy guy. Asking him to read Jane Austen is a big thing.
Also, that student of hers was a little too sleazy for my taste. I mean he knew she was married! And he still asked her to go to a motel with him. eww
@leslie7622 i agree completely, and though yes he was sleazy...i do think he just truly loved the attention he got from her....not romantic in the traditional sense, but im sure he thought her attention was something special
7:02 on with Hugh Dancy...awww I just want to melt. That little pause when he's talking "there are othersyou..might like." and then the way he looks at her!!! <3
Ok everyone, now what did we learn from The Jane Austen Book Club? That apparently, if you give your man a Jane Austen book to read, it will solve all of your problems in your relationship. :)
gosh loved every moment of this movie...i love jane austen and her stories which i gotten to know through film ...and though its seems daunting or that the fact that these men~~~ Mr.Darcy..Wentworth are illusive , every film that brings her brilliance to light gives me hope and reminds me of the power of pen to paper...thank you and thank you ms Jane Austen
really awesome film! loved it! it made me smile! i liked the ending! :D i wanted to watch all of hugh dancy's films, but this one i liked the best! :D
I am distracted by Jocelyn wearing winter clothing when it is clearly not winter. She has 4 layers of clothing and ugg boots. Whilst I get the concept of layers being stripped away it doesn't sit with the temperature given to you in her car 67F at 5am and all the other characters in t-shirts. Whilst saying this Hugh Dancy does get my attention away from her.
@ssesf My thought exactly... If there only was such a club... I love to watch this film, it makes me feel like I'm one of the members... Jane Austen and this modern world of ours brought together- it's just a really good story :)
this was a great book and although a few bits of the books were missed out that could have made the movie a bit better, it is one of my most fave movies.
I love the film. Absolutely love it. It makes me want to gather up unknown people from the street and start a book club! I also like the general idea of meeting just once a month and building up the relationship between the readers creating a slow symbiosis (hopefully). I just started reading "Emma" and will definetely be reading the rest as soon as I can.
@ivannaspamalot wow where are you from we should start a book club i love the idea haha! its a great idea this movie is my favorite of all time i think. i just always wonder why she takes him back after he cheats and why grigg likes jocelyn so much
It also completely missed out Allegra getting back with Corinne, even if it was only mentioned quickly at the end of the book. Never mind, Corinne is a bitch anyway.
I'm glad Prudie didn't go with Trey. I think she made the better choice with Dean, and the talk they had about the book was like a happy/ sadness conversation. I'm glad they stayed together. And I like that all the books go with the life of the person who picked it. Yay! Happyness!
The part where Prudie trys to have a conversation with Dean makes me teary eyed.... When she explains Persuasion "It's about these two people who used to love each other and they don't anymore and they try to persuade themselves to give it another try" Tears so sad! :(
i am ashamed that i havent read any jane austen books. i have p&p but havent read it yet. but i seen all the adaptations. i love them so i saw this movie i must read them now!
i would just ooze into a puddle if i were jocelyn. grigg's such a great guy. he's such a dork, especially with the reflective cuffs he put around his pant legs, but he's also so attractive at the same time. hahahahaha. perfect couple. i love how jocelyn just gives in after trying to fight it the whole movie.
OMG I LOVE this ending! Could it get any better?? I love the part when Prudi's husband just can't stop reading... and the kiss between Jocelyn and Greig! *gasp* loved it. I've already seen this movie once before, but now I really remember why I liked it so much. Thanks sooo much for posting! You're the best!
those are exactly my favorite parts, too. i love when prudie's begging her husband to read the book and she says something like, "Look, I'll read it to you," and he goes, "Prudie, you can't be serious. You can't read the whole book," and the in the end, we see her sleeping and he's just turning the pages, absorbed in the story. and i do love grigg and jocelyns bit! "I read these books. I LOVED them. I went to the allnight bookstand but they didn't have the next one." it's so sweet.
You should start with Pride and Prejudice since it's the most well-known. I've only read that one and Sense and Sensibility, but I can't wait to read the rest!
I was so happy when Kathy Baker came out looking like her classy self at the end of the film! They made her look so butch through out the whole film!!!!!
I loved this movie :) I am a Jane Austen freak I love her books I love the movies I love it all... Does anyone know if the book of this movie is worth reading? And just remember what would Jane do! ahahahahaha
i just saw the entire movie on here and i am so glad that you posted it.i fell in love with it.i read ALL the time and i wish i was part of a book club like this one.i actually cried when grigg kissed joselyn i actually cried(what a dork)lol.....but anyways i loved it.thanks!
I have never heard of any historians claiming that Jane Austen may have been gay - that is ridiculous - there is absolutely nothing to support that. She wanted to marry Tom Lefroy but his uncle would not let them marry.PLus just because someone doesn't want to get married does not mean that they are gay!And as for her having an affair with her older sister, that is disgusting - I think that that is so not Jane! Claiming that in the book enmma is bi is ridiculous she is not bi! Poor Jane Austen!
i totally agree with you .why do we, as a society, think just because a women CHOOSES not to marry she has to be gay. what twaddle( as my Mum would say)Did anyone stop to think that she(Austen)lost the love of her life and chose not to meet convention of the time and not marry?Things can sometimes be that simple.
exactly. And according to the film and book, "becoming jane", she fell in love with Tom Lefroy but was not allowed to marry him. It is true that she wanted to marry a man called Tom Lefroy, sho she seemed to be very much in love with.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
for real though, I'm so surprised it hasn't come up in this movie. Jane Austen is thought to be gay by many historians, and may have had an affair with her older sister. Also in the book Emma, emma is bi.
I`M SOO HOT AND SEXY***I`M ALWAYS IN THE PLAYFUL MOOD***MY BODY ASK YOU TO COME AND KISS ME!! Don't be afraid to tell me the naughty things you want me to do for you. i love the ending...hwo everyone is just so happy! & Prudys prego!! It just makes your heart all happy inside. Ohhhh & i loooove Grigg...hes so nerdy...it's cute! :D
i loved the film:)...didn't think i'd like a film of this type. I am a fan of Emily Blunt so i thought i'd watch it and i do certainly not regret it:)
i really like this movie...it's kinda sad though, but funny. and i like how theyc an all relate to the books that they read. personally i love jane austen!
what song is playing when jocyln arrives at grigg's house?
Where is the part when Allegra tells Corrine a story that Corrine thinks happened to Allegra, but was really the plot from one of the Austen books?

"It's how they persuade themselves to give it another try..."
For someone so knowledgeable about Austen, Prudie (is that how you spell it?) doesn't know much about "Persuasion."

exactly. And according to the film and book, "becoming jane", she fell in love with Tom Lefroy but was not allowed to marry him. It is true that she wanted to marry a man called Tom Lefroy, sho she seemed to be very much in love with.

for real though, I'm so surprised it hasn't come up in this movie. Jane Austen is thought to be gay by many historians, and may have had an affair with her older sister. Also in the book Emma, emma is bi.
