  • Where is the part when Allegra tells Corrine a story that Corrine thinks happened to Allegra, but was really the plot from one of the Austen books?

  • ^___________________________^ an adorable film

  • excelente film me encanto

  • I've read only a couple of her books, but I have seen all the adaptations. It never gets boring...

  • I've just finished reading Emma. :D

  • i really like this movie!

i feel like i should read her books, although i know i might not understand everything, but i'll give it a try!

i'll go according to their order or as Greg said "we'll start from the middle!" :P

  • I love this movie! there are some many different story lines but it's like Jane begins all of the stories together to make an amazing movie

  • Even tho I have only read 2 of her books I love this movie so much! Its one of my favorites.

  • I abseolutely adore this film. I always dream to have such a club with people who will share my interest:)

  • I always feel such a surge o' happy when Jocelyn raves about trying to track down a copy of Sea Road, and Grigg asks her if she wants to borrow it. One of those unexpected, pleasant reactions.

  • Never underestimate the power of a well written letter.

  • I like this movie for many reasons, one being it finally showcased Marc Blucas in a good way.

  • @TokyoSpike totally!

  • thank you livi! loved this film :)

  • what is that song 04:12 - 06:33

  • I really like how Dean and Prudie were able to patch up their marriage. The way Dean kissed Prudie was so intense!! I also loved how Dean really made an effort to fix their marriage. It melted my heart when he said "okay 1 page". Look at it from his point of view. He's the typical macho sportsy guy. Asking him to read Jane Austen is a big thing.

Also, that student of hers was a little too sleazy for my taste. I mean he knew she was married! And he still asked her to go to a motel with him. eww

  • @leslie7622 i agree completely, and though yes he was sleazy...i do think he just truly loved the attention he got from her....not romantic in the traditional sense, but im sure he thought her attention was something special

  • Awww, Prudie is pregnant at the end :)

  • 7:02 on with Hugh Dancy...awww I just want to melt. That little pause when he's talking "there are othersyou..might like." and then the way he looks at her!!! <3

  • I have to say I really liked this...I wasn't expecting it to be good at all but couldn't resist anything jane austen

  • Ok everyone, now what did we learn from The Jane Austen Book Club? That apparently, if you give your man a Jane Austen book to read, it will solve all of your problems in your relationship. :)

  • I'm glad her husband was an ok guy after all :)

  • NO! purdie shouldve gotten it on with kevin zegers

  • aww what a lovely movie!!! I loved how at the end everyone is getting it on HAHA!!!

  • It's true. Something about Austen (And Bronte for that matter) makes you want to "get it on" :P

  • @OohcoolProductions tell me about it.. after I first saw the 2006 Jane Eyre... or after the next 10 times...

  • @olooshia I LOOOOOOVED the 2006 Jane Eyre!!!! :D

  • oh oh I will never stop loving it! So sweet and warm and lovely atmosphere of the movie. And I love the way that Austen books solve all the problems.

  • I LOVE HAPPY ENDINGS!! :DDD love love love

  • gosh loved every moment of this movie...i love jane austen and her stories which i gotten to know through film ...and though its seems daunting or that the fact that these men~~~ Mr.Darcy..Wentworth are illusive , every film that brings her brilliance to light gives me hope and reminds me of the power of pen to paper...thank you and thank you ms Jane Austen

  • Hated how she ended up with her husband. Other than that it was a good movie

  • i'd like to thank livi030791 for posting this AWESOME movie in youtube. SOO GREAAT! :D

  • really awesome film! loved it! it made me smile! i liked the ending! :D i wanted to watch all of hugh dancy's films, but this one i liked the best! :D

  • Griggs is soooooooooo cute!!!!

I love him with Jocelyn ^__^

  • awwww Greg is soooo cute! LOL the robot awww bless!

  • ein sehr schöner film

  • im glad everything is good wit prudie and dean :D i love happy endings <3

  • @maddiewhite89 yeah me too.. i thought i hate dean, but then when he and prudei made up, i was happy for them :D

  • i like how the youngest girl doesnt bring anyone to the dinner its like shes young shell keep finding people. i dunno i think its a good touch

  • I am glad she got this cutie rather than her friends husband who was her ex bf

  • can i just ask why does everyone seem to be having sex at the same time?

  • hahaha...she hooked herself another guy...hahaha...gotta love her ring!! :)

  • I am distracted by Jocelyn wearing winter clothing when it is clearly not winter. She has 4 layers of clothing and ugg boots. Whilst I get the concept of layers being stripped away it doesn't sit with the temperature given to you in her car 67F at 5am and all the other characters in t-shirts. Whilst saying this Hugh Dancy does get my attention away from her.

  • great movie

    third time i see it

i wish i could join such a book club

but then maybe it only exists in movies

  • @ssesf it never exsists in just movies. :) always imagine! and if you wanna join a book club, make one yourself! :)

  • @ssesf My thought exactly... If there only was such a club... I love to watch this film, it makes me feel like I'm one of the members... Jane Austen and this modern world of ours brought together- it's just a really good story :)

  • @ssesf My handle popped up on some replies so I scroled back. Guess it's fourth time I'm seeing this movie. Hope to buy it on DVD one day!

  • i always liked Griggs and Jocelyn together and i dont think it would be a great choice with griggs and sylvia.

also.....where is the magic 8 ball of ask jane that allegra made for sylvia?

  • Persuasion is my favorite book :)

Captain Wentworth's letter to Anne :] I loveeeeee ittt

  • thank you,nice movie !

  • what happened to the doc in the end??

  • Purdie & Dean are my favorite and in my opinion best part of this movie.

  • hugh dancy as well

  • whats the song that starts at 4:12?

  • @kitesflyhigher so sorry by leslie feist

  • The song is called ,,So Sorry´´and the interpreter is ,,Feist´´^^ I Love the Song ^^

  • Prudie has a schmucky husband until the last five minutes...psh...and then it's too late to redeem him

  • i like to think that him reading jane austen redeemed him and made him a better man, but then again i am a romantic

  • really really nice and lovely and sweet and i don't know what else movie :)) just loved it :)

  • this was a great book and although a few bits of the books were missed out that could have made the movie a bit better, it is one of my most fave movies.

  • absolutely loved this movie!

  • "It's how they persuade themselves to give it another try..."

For someone so knowledgeable about Austen, Prudie (is that how you spell it?) doesn't know much about "Persuasion."

  • I thought the same thing. That logic didn't make any sense at all and isn't the way it "went down" in the book.

  • hugh dancyyy =LOVEEEEEEEE

    haha

  • I love the film. Absolutely love it. It makes me want to gather up unknown people from the street and start a book club! I also like the general idea of meeting just once a month and building up the relationship between the readers creating a slow symbiosis (hopefully). I just started reading "Emma" and will definetely be reading the rest as soon as I can.

  • i totally agree with you. haha. i would love to do a book club like this. awesome.

  • me too!!! it was awsome.....

  • @ivannaspamalot I feel the same way. Sad it is. I can't seem to find people to start a book club with. Bought Emma going to start reading it.

  • @ivannaspamalot i love the movie too. whats amazing is I live exactly where the characters live so i always wonder.............

  • @ivannaspamalot wow where are you from we should start a book club i love the idea haha! its a great idea this movie is my favorite of all time i think. i just always wonder why she takes him back after he cheats and why grigg likes jocelyn so much

  • < 3 I'm in love with Hugh Dancy

  • @MaricheEzk i know what a kiss!!!!!!!

  • @MaricheEzk agreeeed.

  • @MaricheEzk everyone is darling! ;)

  • @MaricheEzk Who isn't? ;)

  • @Ladygwenea haha touché!

  • OMG I'm so happy they put the song so sorry by feist, it's an awesome song!

  • does anybody else wonder why Allegra's girlfriend isn't persent at the dinner table?

  • It also completely missed out Allegra getting back with Corinne, even if it was only mentioned quickly at the end of the book. Never mind, Corinne is a bitch anyway.

  • really why would allegra go back wit corinne

  • is that Billie Holiday playing at the end?

  • i predicted the whole way trough the movie that prudie would be pregnant at the end

*really good movie loved it =] *

  • omg. This must be one of the best movies i've ever seen.

    I just love it!

  • qod that hugh dancy can kiss and this was such a qreat movie = )

  • Persuasion is my favorite jane austen book

  • yeah i like persuasion too

  • same - i just have to read wentworth's letter to anne & i well up!!!!

  • Lovely, thank you :)

  • Thank you for this! I thought it would be cheezi but really sweet! I wish I had enough friends to have a JA book club!

  • Well you don't HAVE to be 6 people, do you? You can with just one friend, but of course it's more fun if you are more people....

  • what did grigg say before toasting?

  • i thought it was greg ? i could be wrong though

  • It's Grigg in the book.

  • he said "we'll fix that"

  • thanks. :)

  • Give me the old period productions anyday. All these frumpy people in modern cheap looking clothes just don't belong with Jane Austen's stories.

  • Go to my channel I made some playlists of Austen novel adaptations. =]

  • Aside from the cheap clothes bit, Austen was very funny and so were her characters.

  • i love how it zooms into grigg's toy robot!

  • Well i don't like it! Should have shown more of the lovemaking scene, lol

  • hahah me too! reminds us of grigg's adorable nature. :)

  • SOOOOO PRECIOUS!

  • does anybody knows the song played since minute 4:13??? thanks!! love this movie

  • I'm sorry by Feist. Beautiful song

  • i love trey!

  • Dean is hot.

  • I'm glad Prudie didn't go with Trey. I think she made the better choice with Dean, and the talk they had about the book was like a happy/ sadness conversation. I'm glad they stayed together. And I like that all the books go with the life of the person who picked it. Yay! Happyness!

Oh, and Hugh Dancy has an amazing back!

  • wonderful movie and an even greater cast.

  • This ending is wonderful love it! And I'm not much of a romantic comedy lover! So sweet wish this story would happen to me and soon! :)

  • The part where Prudie trys to have a conversation with Dean makes me teary eyed.... When she explains Persuasion "It's about these two people who used to love each other and they don't anymore and they try to persuade themselves to give it another try" Tears so sad! :(

  • WOW I loved it!!!! Thanks for posting it

  • When he reads the book it is sooo sweet and is just like Persuation

  • her daughter is such a slut!!LOL! I wish I would have dated more when I was single!LOL!

  • What a wonderful movie

  • thought i'd hate this a bit. but wow love it.

  • i love this movie it actually made me start reading jane austen

  • That's really a good thing! =P

  • yea

  • i am ashamed that i havent read any jane austen books. i have p&p but havent read it yet. but i seen all the adaptations. i love them so i saw this movie i must read them now!

  • it's amazing! you'll fall in love with it from the very first line..well, it is a famous one :D

  • i love this movie so much

  • i would just ooze into a puddle if i were jocelyn. grigg's such a great guy. he's such a dork, especially with the reflective cuffs he put around his pant legs, but he's also so attractive at the same time. hahahahaha. perfect couple. i love how jocelyn just gives in after trying to fight it the whole movie.

  • Many thanks for posting

  • OMG I LOVE this ending! Could it get any better?? I love the part when Prudi's husband just can't stop reading... and the kiss between Jocelyn and Greig! *gasp* loved it. I've already seen this movie once before, but now I really remember why I liked it so much. Thanks sooo much for posting! You're the best!

  • those are exactly my favorite parts, too. i love when prudie's begging her husband to read the book and she says something like, "Look, I'll read it to you," and he goes, "Prudie, you can't be serious. You can't read the whole book," and the in the end, we see her sleeping and he's just turning the pages, absorbed in the story. and i do love grigg and jocelyns bit! "I read these books. I LOVED them. I went to the allnight bookstand but they didn't have the next one." it's so sweet.

  • great ending.

  • I read a few Austens, my fav. is Mansfield Park, but P&P is really good too.

  • i love jane austens work i've read pride & Prejudice and pursuasion and i'm reading emma they are all amazing

  • her husband didnt even notice she changed clothes? :P

  • punkya9 you should def start with Pride & Prejudice. My fav JA book!

  • OK SINCE I WATCHED THIS MOVIE...............I WANT TO READ A Jane Austen book but don't know which one to start with.

    any suggestions?

  • im reading pride and prejudice right now but my favorite is deff. persuation

  • You should start with Pride and Prejudice since it's the most well-known. I've only read that one and Sense and Sensibility, but I can't wait to read the rest!

  • I was so happy when Kathy Baker came out looking like her classy self at the end of the film! They made her look so butch through out the whole film!!!!!

  • its "so sorry" by feist its a really good song!

  • wow Alegra got the doctor lol i started cracking up when I saw that

  • i just saw the entire movie on here and i am so glad that you posted it.i fell in love with it.i read ALL the time and i wish i was part of a book club like this one.i actually cried when grigg kissed joselyn i actually cried(what a dork)lol.....but anyways i loved it.thanks!

  • I have never heard of any historians claiming that Jane Austen may have been gay - that is ridiculous - there is absolutely nothing to support that. She wanted to marry Tom Lefroy but his uncle would not let them marry.PLus just because someone doesn't want to get married does not mean that they are gay!And as for her having an affair with her older sister, that is disgusting - I think that that is so not Jane! Claiming that in the book enmma is bi is ridiculous she is not bi! Poor Jane Austen!

  • i totally agree with you .why do we, as a society, think just because a women CHOOSES not to marry she has to be gay. what twaddle( as my Mum would say)Did anyone stop to think that she(Austen)lost the love of her life and chose not to meet convention of the time and not marry?Things can sometimes be that simple.

  • exactly. And according to the film and book, "becoming jane", she fell in love with Tom Lefroy but was not allowed to marry him. It is true that she wanted to marry a man called Tom Lefroy, sho she seemed to be very much in love with.

  • OH,I have a huge crush on Grigg.

    HAHA.

  • it's such a great movie. the book is fantastic too. i loved that ending.

  • loved the ending!!

  • dean is wearing a pittsbrugh steelers shirt!! Austen and the steelers are my 2 fave things-- go steelers!!

  • omg i soo wnna read it too

  • i love the ending...hwo everyone is just so happy! & Prudys prego!! It just makes your heart all happy inside. Ohhhh & i loooove Grigg...hes so nerdy...it's cute! :D

    Great Film!

    Thank you for posting!!

  • i loved the film:)...didn't think i'd like a film of this type. I am a fan of Emily Blunt so i thought i'd watch it and i do certainly not regret it:)

  • This movie was beautiful..I really enjoyed it. Thanks for posting.

  • i really like this movie...it's kinda sad though, but funny. and i like how theyc an all relate to the books that they read. personally i love jane austen!

what song is playing when jocyln arrives at grigg's house?

  • the song is "so sorry" by feist.

  • thought i might found someone giving the title of that song. thanks!

  • Jane Austin references and a fun lesbian character with a girlfriend who doesn't die-cool lol.

  • i love this movie!

now i have a huge hugh dancy crush as well.
