one of those great "comedy records" (like Right Said Fred) but somewhat sad that Wendy Richard is no longer around) Who'd have thought she'd have ended up (playing a totally different role (to the one she played in "Are You Being Served") in Eastenders for well over 20 years.
Saw Mike perform this in the early sixties at the Earls Court Radio Show. Also on the bill were Frank Ifield, Craig Douglas and Elvis Costello's dad, Ross Macmanus.
I know pretty much of Cliff Richard's songs and to be honest i don't really like them. And Shapiro, well yes i really like her songs but still on my opinion she doesn't have any as good as this one
Like Mike Sarne records ever since hearing 'Are You Satisfied?'*and 'The Code Of Love!' , on Radio Caroline back in the Swinging 60s'
The and when I'd bought the 45rpm record someone pinched it. It took almost 40 years to locate them on a Mike' s CD "Come Outside With Mike Sarne" 27 songs and one bonus track
Very sad to hear the news today. Somehow you've just always been there Wendy, it won't be the same without you. Thank you for entertaining us through the years. Love this song, reminds me of my youth and growing up in Clacton-on-Sea. RIP. xx
I actually remember hearing this song as a boy of 11. We lived a short distance from Southend-on-Sea and this song was played frequently in the amusement arcades along the seafront. It was only today that I found out that the girl back there in 1962 was Wendy Richard.
I remember this song and Wendy in a soap called The Newcomers then as Miss Brahms and Pauline. Fantastic actress sorely missed. Thinking kind thoughts of you Wendy x
Just Heard Wendy hasnt got long due to aggressive Cancer. THis song takes me back to my childhood, my mum loved it, God bless Wendy, she did a lot in British entertainment.
I remember thinking about this song when Pauline Fowler was about to play a record in EastEnders before she died. It turned out to be a Dusty Springfield song, but it would have been fun if she had had played this!!
Those were the days eh? When kids actually did what they did in private, not on the dance floor. Told her Dad he'd have her back by half past 10! I had to be in by quarter to 10 'cos my Dad said catch the 9.20 bus then I still had the last bus if I missed that one! (But you know, it never occurred to me to miss it). I was always in by 10.00 right up until I was married in 1970. What Mum and dad said went in those days. Respect.
when i first heard this one, i thought an old man was singing it to an 8 year old boy(refering to wohever was saying 'layoff' and all that..dont get me wrong..cuz theres no way that sounds like a girl
OMG i love this song it's hilarious. I am Kylie Ashworth and i am 19. I love this song it's so funny and cool. I have a sister Jade and she loves this song like i do. I was born in Sydney. I have so many cousins
At last, a chance to hear this No.1 track, missing in my collection, featuring early 'Pawlean Fowla ahta Eastendas', huh, she didn't even sing. Interesting though.
This is great. It always makes me smile.
