  • Cyndi's cover is objectively better.

  • not all that..

  • this is good although i do prefer cyndi's version

  • awww yeah baby!

  • Wow this brings back the memories. Also i saw Robert live cool show. Also saw Aj live also he was one hell of a guitarist. Sad to here hes not doing well health wise i wish nothing but the best. Aj you were one of the best get well!

  • WAAAY better than Cyndi's version.

  • @maalbe987 Its not a version its the original lol

  • @moroney1 No, this is the original.

  • @maalbe987 I dont think a demo version is considered the original

  • @moroney1 He wrote it & recorded it first. Therefore, it's technically the original.

  • lol so funny

  • the original is always better

  • @Gattiniable this is the original, cyndi covered it and made it famous

  • @glamorousfag I KNOW

  • @Gattiniable well SORRY. this version is shit so i assumed cyndi was the original artist

  • lol if it wernet for omg facts i woldent beleve it!

  • I almost forgot Aj Richetti was also lead guitarist for three years of the revamp black widow in the early 90'. He now resides in pa dealing with severe artritis and D.I.S.H DISEASE. he has two children amber and leo. From all his fans we wish him well

  • Robert was a long time neighbor of my Mom back in Medford Lakes New Jersey, the song was inspired by his then 3 year old daughter and her growing up to fast.

  • who are you to know all this? how he felt and everything? where does he say that it wasn't right for him?

in the spirit of trying to determine the right lyrics it occurred to me that the last part might be about girls being unfaithful. like at first they are loyal, and suddenly it doesn't matter.

  • @mstershke

I got right frm the "horses mouth"

Robert said himself in an interview that the song was not right for him to release so he was saving it for the right singer. I believe the interview is still here on YT.

  • This is just a demo that Robert Hazard recorded but, never released.

He said it was not for him to record and was saving it for the right singer

When Lauper was putting her first album together it was chosen for it

    and he found his singer.

Cyndi and Robert got together and reworked the lyrics sightly and...

Yes, he made a good profit out of royalties and was proud of what Cyndi made of his song.

BTW, I was pleased to her Miley's vers as she stayed truer to Robert's vers.

  • ok so in fact cyndi is the orignial singer. got it..... thanks for the info. thats why dialog is a very good thing. thanks youtube.

  • "I know your love for him is deep as day is long"

  • i just realized it's "important" he says at the end. "it really wasn't important."

  • some guys take a beautiful girl they try to hide her away from the rest of the world

all my girls are gonna walk in the sun

i know your love for him is deep as .. known

i know you'd never be the thing to do him wrong

but when i knock on the door, and close my

    it really wasn't

  • phone rings in the middle of the night

my father says ... to the welcoming light

father dear you are the fortunate one

    girls...

come home with the morning light

my mother said my boy you got to start living right

don't worry mother dear you're still number one

    girls... these girls...

when the working day is done...

  • Lauper made it a hit so Hazard got a good payday out of it all. I see that people are still doing covers of this song. I hope the Hazard family is getting some financial reward out of that. I remember hearing Lauper's version and not liking it one bit.

  • I always thought this song was by Cyndi Lauper and I was to shocked to find out (just now) that a dude wrote and sang this. I always hated this song but I like this version.

  • Just awesome.

  • miley cyrus copy this

  • It's a fferent feel, more statement less celebration. Love the tempo and guitar work. Sounds like a bit of the Cure in there but Cyndi's made it an anthem.

  • this is better than the famous version! :D

  • egads now i am having flashbacks to seeing him live at the old 23 east, london victory club, the ripley and the Troc. "Those were the days!"

  • Another life cut far too short by cancer.

    God bless you, Bobby.

Thanks fo all the great music.

  • omg facts?

  • You rule, Robert Hazard

  • sounds like a horse kicked him in the jaw

  • Can somebody post the lyrics of this song?. Please, I don´t speak english very well and I'd like to understand clearly this song. I think that is a pretty nice song, specially the Cindi Lauper's cover. Thanks you

  • @TheDorisNoris its a demo by the song writer Robert Hazard ..he wrote Girls just wanna have fun

  • Can someone put the lyrics to this verção?, fought

  • He changed it over the years and it sounded much closer to what Cyndi sang, but for sure it makes more sense for GIRLS to sing it! Too bad the Pussycat dolls didn't try it.

  • @dksidefdmoon07 I am not expecting a whored-up version of this song, so please let the Pussycat Dolls out of this.

  • prefer Cyndi's...

But this still better than listening to Miley Cyrus

  • Suddenly, a song about young girls enjoying life becomes a song about the sheer number of women that want to bone Robert Hazard.

(or rather, the latter becomes the former, but whatever)

  • People who bash others over spelling on YouTube are morons....A lot of these people speak English as a SECOND language (AT LEAST)...Too fucking bad if they don't spell everything correctly. Most American teens can't even write their OWN fucking language correctly.

  • Pure gold.

  • Seen these guys alot in Philly in the early-mid 80's. Great band got a chance to meet Robert and the Heroes a few times real good people. This is a true original and rocks way more than Cyndi's bubblegum version and as for @fondamyslit go stick one of Roberts old liquor bottles in your nasty slit! You should not speak ill of the dead and you sound like you hate men and love the slit! R.I.P. Robert you were a great talent and are missed big time.

  • @hooterstooge I remember listening to 104.5 in Philadelphia, and Robert Hazard actually called in to the program and he requested Escalator of Life.

  • Seen these guys alot in Philly in the early-mid 80's real nice guy had the pleasure of meeting Robert and the band a few times. Excellent and talented band this is a great original much better than Cyndi's bubblegum version. @fondamyslit go stick one of his liquor bottles in your precious slit. You shouldn't speak ill of the dead!

  • Oh wow, I've never heard this- his 4-song 12" is great (w/ Escalator Of Life, Change Reaction etc).

  • Hazard was a Drunk A-hole.

    still owes me money,,Creep.

  • ok, good song but cyndi is 10000 times betteeeer :D

  • This is awesome

  • Elvis!

  • Very interesting. Glad I found this. - Sounds like Bryan Ferry.

  • @theavril14girl I'm guessing 10-14. You can't even spell you're right. Go get raped.

  • @DoctorRainbow8321 and you're like 50 or? not everyone is super at english!

  • @theavril14girl Anyone above 14 is, unless they're a complete and total failure in life. ;)

  • @DoctorRainbow8321 I die in laughing

  • @theavril14girl Above: An improper sentence from the mind of an autistic 14 year old.

  • @DoctorRainbow8321 Yeah right!

  • @DoctorRainbow8321 Like you can speak chinese

  • @theavril14girl No, I wouldn't want to speak chink. I find it quite hilarious that you use that excuse. I'm German and I can speak french fluently as well as latin.

  • @DoctorRainbow8321 Who the hell is speaking latin!

  • @theavril14girl Anyone who wants a decent job. You obviously don't know shit about the real world, kid.

  • @DoctorRainbow8321 You can get a real job without latin waste of time learning it kid

  • @theavril14girl You really are ignorant. When you graduate (in 24 years) try to go get any other job than teaching or working at mcdonalds. You'll see.

  • @DoctorRainbow8321 you're an idiot you can get somthing with a computer or somthing and have you're on store or anything like that so when you're are done inoying me ( in 153224 and you'll see i won) you'll see, not me haha!

  • @theavril14girl I doubt that was even english.

  • @DoctorRainbow8321 yes yes

  • lol thats so weird it wasnt even by a girl... O.o

i kinda like this version better to be honest

  • @MisterBlue24 shutup

  • anyone has lyrics?

  • @portfolio7luas google does

  • @elmosaysscrewyou Thanks, but I googled before I asked. I found lyrics for Laupers version, but I didn't find Hazzard's, wich is quite different. If you found it in google please post the link here. I appreciate it!

  • @elmosaysscrewyou Couldn't find lyrics for this version of the music on google. If someone knows where I can find it, please let me know. Thanks.

  • wow. this is so crazy. it turns the meaning of the song backwards coming from a guy

  • Caliguarules: Me too. This is how it was meant to be played and sung.

  • Hey you guys lay off the recently decease artist,... He wrote this song for his daughter Correna,.. "Which I must say is an Italian Babe,..!!" I knew them for a short while when they were up in Medford Lakes N.J. in the mid 80's. With out him Cindy would have never had her chance @ all,..!!!

  • Wow! I've been a fan of Cyndi Lauper for 27 years, and this is the first time I'm hearing the original version. Let me just say that Cyndi did a phenomenal job of taking an absolute shit song and turning it into something really amazing!

  • @MisterBlue24 Cyndi had/has an uncanny talent for picking the right songs and, while her version of this is brilliant - it never exists without the original and it isn't brilliant if the original isn't at least very good. A little respect, please...and don't be a douche.

  • @TreadingLemming You're the only one being a douche. Apparently you think no one else's opinion is valid unless it complies with your own. People have their own thoughts and opinions, so if you don't like it then perhaps you shouldn't be on here reading other people's comments. Furthermore, kiss my ass!

  • @MisterBlue24 I was as pleasant as I could be, given the circumstance. All I said was "don't be be douche". You might have replied with "Thanks, maybe I was too hard on Mr. Hazards original work of art". No, turns out we're dealing with a useless donkey whose taste abides only in his mouth. I am a song writer and, if Ms. Lauper made a song of mine her own I would be THRILLED!

Sadly, it seems, my reward would be some troll like you slagging my version off with vulgar language.

  • @TreadingLemming You're the only troll here. How old are you?? Grow up!!!

  • @MisterBlue24 Ahhh, another witty, erudite rejoinder from our Blueman validating the old axiom - If your position is indefensible, hurl insults!

  • Not one of HAzard's best songs.

  • I'm glad Cyndi saved this one.

  • Not as good as Cyndi's version. And this guy did the original song.

  • Hazard wrote this, but it sounds like the Cars.

  • I might be a bit biased, but I really don't like this at all. Cyndi's is so much better. You can't even understand what he's saying in some parts.....

  • @MikaylaaMadisonn That's because it's a demo, not a studio version which there never was.

  • I just heard on the Czech radio, Impuls, that this song was originally due to Robert Hazard, so I checked. It's OK. But indeed, I prefer the Lauper version.

  • If I am not mistaken, Robert Hazard wrote this song back in 1979. Cyndi Lauper made it famous while changing some of the lyrics. Everything happens for a purpose.

  • It sounds so dylanesque, unlike the Cindy's version which has only a subtle hint of Dylan.

  • TRAN CAN COOK loves this version!!

    check us out!!!

  • a great song, a great version...but you can't deny that lauper made it a completely different (and, I think, better) song. Not to diminish the talented Mr. Hazard in the least, of course...It's kind of like how the Hendrix version of All Along the Watchtower is definitive, or Joan Jett's "I Love Rock N Roll"

  • cindy lauper melhor!

  • Oh yeah I actually heard a live version of hazard doing this song and he reggaefied it himself even then. This guy was awesome.

  • This version is way better than Cyndi Lauper.

  • Wow ... Ive been looking for this version for a long time. Thank you. If only someone could link me the original lyrics

  • This is the Original Version since Robert Hazard wrote it..The Cyndi Lauper version made him over a million bucks in royalties..Since I worked with Robert Hazard (along with John Lilley-Hooters),this was performed every nite as part of the set-if you listen to it, its sort of sounds like the Cars.I was so used to hearing this version, that when the Cyndi Lauper version came out,I did'nt really care for it- BUT it was this song that made Cyndi Lauper a Star, along with the hooters-time after time!!

  • Once again Cyndi co wrote the song with Rob from the Hooters. While I am so happy Girls Just Want To Have Fun was ever written I believe some divine force knew it belonged to her it is my favorite song ever but without Cyndis vocals it would have been nothing

  • with all due respect, you are mistaken. robert hazard wrote the song. i know wikipedia is not encyclo brittanica but check it out. i have the original 45

  • @viscobob Was this really on a 45, always thought this was just an unissued demo... was it on a local Philly label? thanks

  • @waltervdbus

This can't possibly be a demo could it? It sounds like a professional recording to me. Still, you could be right. But it is the original version, it sounds a lot like The Cars.

The version by Miley Cyrus seems to be based on THIS original rather than Cyndi's.

  • @cmulwee001 This is a demo. It was never released. i have the cassette this clip is from, but i did not post it on youtube.

  • anyone know the lyric?

  • i've been waiting to hear this for years

  • this ole philly boy actually has original 45 of this and 45 of Escalator of Life.

and Hooters wrote 'Time After Time' that was Lauper hit as well...

  • No Rob Hyman co wrote it with Cyndi everyones knows she got the title for the song from a tv guide on the table.

  • once again, you are mistaken mon ami

  • I am talking about Time After Time geez read it a little better

  • classic early 80's post-punk philly sound.

  • i didn't know this is the original song. very punkish.

  • There's so many more lyrics in this version rather than 'when the working day is done' 'its all they really want' and 'girls just wanna have fun' for four minutes with three short verses dispersed in between.

  • wow i always thought this was cindi laupers song and she made the original..

  • @kbplaya33 no Robert Hazard wrote and performed this song long before Cindi had at it .Members of the Hooters ( phila Pa ) comprised Cindi's band in recording GJWHF ..the Hooters went on to their own fame

  • this is great, but someone can put the lyrics? please :)

  • Comment removed

  • this is great, but of the cyndi is very best

  • A cool rare historic performance of him doing his hit "Girls just want to have fun" with the Heroes. Enjoyed this blast form the past... saw him do it acoustic in Cape May in March 08 as part of the Singer Songwriter Cape May musical Keynote performance. While it was video'd I've not seen that some released here as of yet.

  • Thank you for posting this!

I have been searching for Hazzard's complete original version for a long time.

I was very pleased to see that Miley Cyrus used his arangement on her version.
