  • Can't stop listening to this song. Its addictive.

  • does anyone have tabs for harmonica ?

  • This album is flawless.

  • proper love this song

  • I have been listening to this song on a loop for about an hour in a half...SO good.

  • This song has such a great use of the harmonica, it just adds the the atmosphere perfectly.

  • Beautiful

  • fallons a young bruce .. im glad theyre not too mainstream even though they deserve it

  • somebody please post the harp tabs.

  • Sink or Swim is probably one of my favorite albums of all time but the 59 sound was a huge dissapointment to me. These guys had so much potential and they lost their energy and their distinct sound with that album.

  • @TheDavetoole The 59 sound is their best album.

  • @Kfarm2711

No, Davetoole is correct about Sink or Swim being their best. I wouldn't say The '59 Sound is anything short of great, but Sink or Swim is transcendent.

  • @Thor27436 To each their own, I personally like the 59 sound more. Sink or Swim is a great album though.

  • @Thor27436 so true man. I heard that album four years ago and it still moves me to this day. No matter how low I felt that album could pick me right back up. It is a true showcase of the human soul and for that it will always be one of my favorite albums.

  • it'd be so sweet if i could figure out that harmonica tab/tune. I want to do a legit cover

  • This sounds so much like Way Over Yonder in the Minor Key by Wilco and Billy Bragg... But that's what I love so much about the Gaslight Anthem, it's so clear who their influences are but they still sound so good!

  • @PetitChapeauRouge14 DId you see Brian cover Billy Bragg's "A New England" with Frank Turner? Great cover with a pretty funny intro.

  • this one reminds me of bob Dylan

  • God damn..This is perfect.

  • you cant just like this band, you only end up loving them

  • love this song! the lead singer grew up in my town and was actually friends with my older sister! and the bass player grew up in a town next to mine. i can't wait to see them live at bamboozle this year!

  • I'm in love with this song!

  • check out my drive cover and subscribe and add a comment and like it thanks

  • check out my drive cover gimme some feed back please.. dont be too harsh thanks

  • yeah but they have acknowledged that they used Billy Bragg's musical arrangement of "Way Over Yonder in the Minor Key".

  • Ahem: Billy Bragg and Wilco have a VERY similar song. Cool though.

  • @rayggallagher1974 I think every one knows but I prefer the lyrics and vocals on this version. But I love Wilco and Billy Bragg also.

  • i love harmonicas

  • Still haven't found a bad song. Awesome band

  • 6 people are trapped in limbo.

  • I love love love love this song. I wish it would go on forever.

  • This and 'sink florida sink' are the two best acoustic punk songs ever written

  • @TheVictim124 I would have to agree to some extent. This is damn good "punk" acoustic song. Sink Florida Sink and Against Me in general have some pretty sweet acoustic songs. Don't know if you are an Alkaline Trio Fan or not, but their acoustic numbers kick some ass as well!

  • @KikiGorbechov Alkaline Trio acoustics are beautiful.

  • I Love the symbolism of the lyrics. Meeting a girl is the blessing, and a break up is the curse, the red sky at night is a sign of good things to come. That's my interpretation of this song anyway. It's helped me through some depressing times in my life. Life is full of hardships, you need to keep looking to the future.

  • @120Vanquish120 I love the fact that their songs can be interpreted in so many different ways. To me, this song speaks to my very soul. The singer discovered misfortune in his early life, regret in his later life, and finally found the strength to see the red sky night, or "sailor's delight." The verse touches upon the "just vague enough to apply to many things" hardships he endures until the final verse where he reveals he has the strength to see the good in life. Love this song.

  • This song gives me chills.

  • Jersey's own. /Hail!

  • It's a great song but when the subject of greatest acoustic punk songs ever recorded, the Pogues own at least most of the top ten: Thousands are Sailing, Dirty Old Town, Fairytale of New York, Pair of Brown Eyes, Misty Morning Albert Bridge, Rainy Night in Soho.

  • @billthaxton to get technical there celtic punk :P

  • @billthaxton Most of them aren't acoustic.

  • sweet sweet love

  • I normally don't say this... as good as the song is lyrics wise.. it's ripped off of Billy Bragg & Wilco's "Over yonder K". nobody does folky music quite like billy bragg and people deserve to know this song isn't original!!!!!!!!

  • @calderesque1 The Gaslight Anthem was established in 2005. This song's publication date was in June 2007.

New bands take their inspirations from other bands/songwriters etc.

I don't see it as a problem that they play/"wrote" a song that sounds similar with another song on their FIRST album 2 years after they met... Brian Fallon has a very good voice and this band is really really good (what gets rarer and rarer).Well.. yerr that's my opinion. ; )

  • @calderesque1 It's not ripped off, Brian said himself how he wrote the words to the Billy and Wilco song.

  • @calderesque1 Wow, you really woulda been crying 'rip off' in the 50's, when most songs had the exact same 12 bar blues arrangement!

  • beautiful song

  • This is amazing! I prefer their more acoustic songs

  • this song made crying me......:')

  • Gaslight didn't actually write the music to this... just the lyrics.

Billy Bragg and Wilco did...the song is call "Way Over Yonder in the Minor Key"....with lyrics from Woody Guthrie.

    Great song though!

  • @mattmattmatt85 The music is 100% basic chords.

I promise Billy Bragg and Wilco didn't write this music either.

  • @finalconflictpro I know theyre 100% basic chords. Have of the hits of the past century probably have the same 4 chord progression, but just give the other one a listen... It's exactly the same. That being said, I still love this version by Gaslight.

  • @mattmattmatt85 *HALF of the hits

  • @mattmattmatt85 lol ok thought this was familiar!!!! ha. i just reposted what you said...didn't realize someone else recognized it was ripped. :)

  • @calderesque1 Sorry it's not, the patterns are similar but the chord progressions aren't the same. The lyrics are entirely different, just because it sounds familiar doesn't mean its "ripped off".

  • If I can listen to one band for the rest of my life, it would be Gaslight Anthem!! Whooooo!!!!

  • great song

  • I love them.... they're a good band!!!

  • i once thought this was him doing a cover song from one of Bruce Springsteen's song. but i asked my uncle whose a huge Bruce fan.

    ALL SOME SONG

  • true true me too

  • this is thier best song, besides 59 sound =]

  • sounds like Way Over Yonder In The Minor Key

  • i can play this on the guitar..beautiful...

  • @kellyclarksonisgreat thats cause its 3 chords haha

  • @dcdude171 i knoooow that

  • I love this songgggg and I love Gaslight. <3

  • My son just tossed me to this tune... LOVE IT!!!

But I gotta say... You call it Punk... but this tune is 100% Americana. Guess its the Jersey comin outa these boys... Reminds me of The Boss...

AND THAT IS A GOOD THING!!!

  • @Jamler3 well see, it's not really punk, its like, americana vaguely folkish irish alternarock

  • but they for sure have some punk to em

  • I got an irish name and an injury, blessing and a curse cast down on me

  • 1 Juli AMSTERDAM!! =D

  • @rrob0906 see ya there! :D

  • Great song. Just...absolutely great.

  • I love the gaslight anthem!

they music is a dream for my ears ;D

  • great song, great band, Brian's voice is great everything bout these guys is good!

  • i love the gaslight anthem SO MUCH! they are gods... i've done two covers if anyone wants to check them out...great expectations and this song- although i killed this song ha

    thanks :D

  • The gaslight anthem always write beautifully optimistic songs about bad situations.

  • Calvins versions better

  • calvins verson is a masterpiece of vocals

  • Just got tickets to see them At Manchester Academy 24th June........

  • one of the most optimistic songs i've heard in a long time. beautiful. i'm gonna write song based on it right now.

  • this sounds a lot like 'way over yonder in the minor key', by billy bragg

  • was just about to post the same thing lol love this song heard the bragg song just last week instantly thought of this, hmm makes u wonder good band though

  • Its a blues song played by a musician in a punk band, just to help any people who cant tell what genres what. Love the band though

  • these are my mates

  • great band love all there shit

  • this song is amazing ... its sends shivers down my spine and yah maybe its not punk but its still something i'm glad that ive heard

  • well said.

  • punk? how is this punk?

  • how is this NOT punk?

  • lolz. i dont think it is.

  • Aye good comback mate. Gaslight Anthem are no punk. Fanny

  • The first verse describes me almost exactly.

  • i feel ya, the first few works well for me too

  • u george best?

  • me too... totally.. I can relate to the entire song

  • i gonna see 'em live next yeah :D

  • just the greatest band on earth, just the top!!! so love the gaslight´s!!!

  • sick

  • fucking love the gaslight anthem

  • love it...!! :-)

  • just listen, learn, &love

  • @y2jbyrd

    And Build & Burn!

Check Out The Loved Ones & Chuck Ragan (Former Hot Water Music).

    You'll Probably Like Them.

  • Beautiful

  • Well they are a folk-punk band... Which is what makes them so amazing

  • Personally I love this song played by Gaslight. It doesn't matter if it isn't their original song - it is performed brilliantly and sounds amazing. No one seems to complain about the Hendrix version of 'All Along the Watchtower'.....

  • Simply Amazing

    Via Negetiva Ab Noctum

  • its def the same music and structure, but passing that stuff around is what folk is about. Everyone steals from everyone else. Even Dylan copped whole song structures this way

  • cool

  • good song. I dont think it has anything to do with punk at all. It sounds more like country than a punk, but i dont know maybe im getting to old and bands like the misfits and bad religion will start putting out rap songs and call it punk.

  • these cats are the bombdiggity bombskeet banger. ya dig? they b like the skeetdiggitybombbomb ya know?? the goood ol skeetbangerdiggitybomb. ya digggg?

  • meh, I like their other stuff

  • fuck yes. im seeing thses guys in NY in october

  • love it!! gas light are the new E street band.

  • Agreed - I hate it when people bitch cause a punk band puts out acoustic. If it is good ^&*%ing music then its good ^&*#ing music!

  • true that man, smartest and most truthful comment ive read in a while on here..

    ahah.

  • You can fucking find this, but you can't find Red In The Morning?!?!

  • when is his birthday? january what?

  • this isnt the usuall gaslight anthem. this song is different than their usual stuff. if you wanna hear the real them listen to drive or old white lincoln

  • awesome song, but not punk!!

  • Yeah, The Gaslight Anthem are a punk band. Punk bands DO put out acoustic songs, you know that right?

  • get over yourself

  • uh, what? It's awesome, but it's clearly a folk song.

Not a punk song. get over YOURself and realize that music can be good without being punk, and that artists can branch into other genres.

  • I'm sorry. I acutally responed to the wrong comment. I was trying to respond to the person who called this "retared hick hillbilly shit" I totally agree with you and I am very sorry for that mistake!

  • HA, alright! no worries then! ^_^

  • its got kind of an alt punk blues vibe but yeah its not punk

  • This coming from someone who has Anti-Flag favorited lol

  • lol

  • Great tune, bullet for sure.

  • how is this a punk song?

  • stop licking grannies and open your mind up

  • This has become one of my favorite songs but as it was stated earlier it's practically the same as the Billy Braggs song. I have no doubt that he must be a strong influence to The Gaslight. Love the song though.

  • Red sky in the morning sailors warning. Red sky at night sailors delight.

Wow...I've heard the saying but never heard it put into these terms!

  • yesterday is chilled with my girlfriend on an pretty green grassfield in the sun and we listened to this song...a perfect moment

  • Wow his voice is amazing, especially at 0.37 <3 x

  • their sooo good

  • everyone should check out his myspace, if you hav'nt allready, his solo shit is AMAZING

  • They played a good show in Pburgh this week...insub. fest will be way fucking crazier than any show ever though.

  • This is Brian Fallon's take on the song, aint noboday that can sing like me. He said it in an interview, it's not a cover, but sort-of a remake, it's damn good. So is the original.

  • Holy crap this is a good song...

  • listened to this song 10 times in a row now...thanks for uploding it

  • If these guys played with Against Me! it would be an amazing show.

  • they opened for against me! on their US tour fall of 2007.

  • I was at that show. Gaslight and Against Me was such a badass combination.

  • What a useless comment. lol Rise Against has also been around much longer. Who cares which are better when they both rock?

  • tru tru

  • HAHA...I used to like Rise Against back when I was 14...i've done some growing up since then..now I like good music like Gaslight Anthem

  • JUSTICE4NO1, sometimes it's not a case of growing up, but more about developing tastes ^^

what we think as good music changes as we grow older right?

  • aye, i stil like rise against, its all opinions if u ask me, no1 is really right.

  • what is right is that both bands are amazing

  • Totally, I still like Aiden but a lot of my friends have simply changed their minds but they always say they've ''grown up'' and it just feels patronizing, music is music whatever age you are.

    XxXx.

  • Dustin Kensrue, Brian Fallon and Frank Turner, what a chilled acoutic tour that would be. Im surprised not many people in Europe know of the greatness of Dustin Kensrue (singer of Thrice and his folk project)

  • Dont forget Tim Barry of AVAIL.......

  • They have a tour in German, February 2009.. Hmm, 11 in Berlin, 17 or 19 Hamburg :)

  • such an amazing band! i love this song so much!

  • By the way if you like songs like these, check out Dustin Kensrue, the singer of Thrice, he has his own folk side project, totally different from thrice stuff. its really good. Check out 'pistol' and 'consider the ravens'

  • Hey grimeyhoob, you seem pretty cool, where are you from? have you heard of single file or the fray? they are both from here in colorado and you might like em.

  • My dream would be a European tour with Gaslight and Thrice, two of my favorite bands, damn Americans are so lucky to have seen them both.

  • I totally agree with you. Especially if both bands played full sets, then both lead singers played acoustic sets. That would be incredible.

  • would love the catch them live!

  • Me in Amsterdam in March!

  • Brian is probably the closest to Bruce Springsteen's wonderful voice as you can get. You can definately tell they are from Jersey lol

  • You're both spot on its a beautiful melancholy isnt it? "Doing just fine..." ;)

This, 'Blue Jeans & White T-shirts' and 'The Navesink Banks' is what helps set them apart from all those shit Kerrang noiseniks they unfairly get lumped in with. These lot are different class and I'm glad to have them in my life

  • Agreed

  • Seein them in Brussels on Fabruary 2009...

  • This song really is a beautiful song. Granted.

    -- God Bless.

  • I finally saw them this summer. One of my favourite bands, no question.
